I wanted to get some questions out there for the community:
1) How is the GM search going? Do you think you'll have things in place for them in the OB build in CB or is it something you're going to try to get in for actual OB?
2) There has been a lot of feedback about the current TTK, how do you and the rest of the QA team feel about the changes?
3) Where is the East Coast Datacenter going to be located? I know a lot of people are curious... (myself included)
4) G1 has been slamming hackers left and right, however many community memberes are also concerne with griefing. How do you plan on handling these issues? Do you feel it's just something that comes along with a tough PVP environment or do you think you'll have GM's stepping in on extreme cases?
5) The cash shop option opens a lot of choices for G1 to sell clothing/decals/tattoos/cars- what are some of the things you're looking forward to selling on the shop to those willing to shell out some cash to have that extra "cool factor"?
I've plenty of questions but I don't want to overload you
Thanks for everything you've answered thus far, really looking forward to the Open Beta!
I was in the closed Beta for the previous incarnation of APB and that was all I really needed, I didn't buy the game since I mostly completed it. I managed to basically get to endgame during the closed beta, maxed out my ranking and gained high tier ugrades and weapons. I have a few questions that would decide whether I buy this game.
1. Is there new weapons? I managed to gain stockpiles of weapons in the previous closed beta of APB. Also, a large ammount of the higher tiered guns were just the low tiered guns with names. It didn't just sit right with me that a lot of the more powerful weapons only differences between them were that they were given a name and added stats.
2. Are there new gametypes? Back in the old APB all I can remember there being was three different general types of games. Capture the point games, Assasinate the enemy leader games, and escorting item A to point B games. Repeating those same missions over and over again just seemed tiring after a while, I got bored of the game by the time closed beta was over.
3. I am not privy to closed beta information so it would be wonderful to know any different district rulesets. I remember some of the most wanted things that never happened was the chaos ruleset and the zombie ruleset.
4. Is the APB point system back? Having to buy points to customize your items and sell them on the marketplace immediatly put me off the game, there was no chance of me subscribing to that method. The auction was one of my favorite features untill I heard about the point system.
5. Did you add more types of clothing to customize? I spent large ammounts of time creating my perfect character, however I was slightly disapointed at the selection of clothing available.
Thanks for answering these questions if you ever get around to it, I also understand if you don't, I did make quite a few. Have a good day.

The 1.5.0 build officially went into QA late last night. We're testing away as we speak. So... soon-ish as long as no other major issues pop up.

I don't recall saying that. I recall saying something more along the lines of: we want to balance the game so that gear isn't the make or break for winning. Meaning, just because you are of a higher level doesn't mean you should be able to 1 shot kill everything in your path. Additionally we are working on a new skill rating system that will move low skilled players into their own bracket so they are not trounced by high skill players. We want this to be more of a skill based game and less of a grinder.
it does seem like you blaming the apples when advocato is at fault. players where never at a disadvantage due progression (anyone can progress) it was due the fact that the matchmaking allowed veterans and new players in the same match.
with that being said, whats the point of changing progression and matchmaking at the same time? its not better to focus on making the game more fair for all the players?
with the downsides system the idea is to make the players who espend more time playing just different instead of better?
is it a great idea to pigeon hole players into roles with the nature of the game where locations change from open areas to cqc fights on the fly?
are you guys paying attention to the population changes as a reaction to the changes from apb to apbr now? has it improved? declined?
OK, this is a great post with a lot of gold nuggets, thanks Dreamss. I hope I can hit them all.
The idea with the Modification system (previously known as Upgrades) is to allow players to feel like they are increasing in power as they level without making them overpowered. We want you to specialize as you progress and the new Mod system focuses on that.
Additionally, the change to progression (specifically with regards to Roles) allows you to change your specialization on the fly. So the longer you play, the more specializations you have. To change specializations basically all you have to do is change your weapon. That makes it so you don't feel pigeon holed when your surroundings change.
Originally posted by nickelpat I really only have one question, having the played the beta of RTW's APB and enjoying it quite a bit. How much has customization been monetized?
The character creator has not been limited in any way. After you create your character there are limits on how many layers you can have per symbol and how many symbols you can have per item.
Being premium allows you to unlock higher limits and once an item is created you can always wear it - even if you no longer have premium, you just cannot edit it again until you have premium (or you must use the Free2Play limits).
Originally posted by stckmojo What are you going to do about people using aimbots and 3rd party hack programs? I've noticed there are a massive amount of people playing with them in the beta now and it's really destroying the overall fun factor of your game.
We're not seeing a "massive amount of people playing with them" at all. In fact just last night the team proved PB is detecting every publicly available aimbot currently available. We're seeing less than 10 players per day using them and those players are getting banned.

We're doing a pretty thorough search so it is an ongoing process. We have a few problems with the in-game GM commands that we hope to get fixed in the first major update after OBT launches.

We are trying to add more things to do to reduce griefing (can't grief when you are working on other stuff). Additionally we're looking at adjusting some of the most annoying griefing going on (Grief Truck anyone?).

The art team is currently working on new things for the shop. Most of that won't be ready until we launch later this year. We do have some really cool other costumes/clothing and other stuff we plan to release on teh shop. We are even planning on allowing players to buy decals and fonts instead of waiting to get them from missions. So if you would like you can unlock all of that instantly and never have to step foot into an action district.
A very simple question. If APB work the first time, and K2 made a rival, how different would it be, if it survived? O and i think its great that K2 is fixing APB!

Well... you won't have to buy APB Reloaded since it will be free. So no worries there.

Yes, we do have a few new weapons that will be released on the Armas Underground (cash shop). Additionally we've made some significant changes to the way shooting works and the balance of pretty much every weapon.
That said, there still are "series" of weapons. That is pretty typical, even in the real world. IRL a gun may be modified in several different ways and the company producing it will release it as a variant of the gun. The same occurs in game. That said, we're going to be adding more "series" of weaponry as well. It is also important to know that every rank of the series not only adds stats but generally allows you to customize the weapon by adding more modification slots.

Currently the mission can be boring and repetitive. We know, we agree. We are working on adding new things to do and have tried to lessen the requirement to do missions over and over. That said, we are also planning to do a major mission pass pretty early in OBT. So by launch missions will have much more variety. We want to get rid of the boring missions (we've already done pretty well at chucking the broken missions) and add new fun missions with more interesting things to do.

If I understand the question right, yes? Meaning if you are Free2Play you can design a symbol with 100 layers, you just won't be able to save it.
If you mean options as in primatives for the symbol creator, no. You must unlock those by either completing missions in the Action Districts or buying them on the Armas Underground (cash shop).

Are you guys planning to do any wipes from open beta into launch(I thought I read there wasn't any plans to but haven't seen it come up in a while)? Also, when are you planning to let Techmech out of the silo? I'm bored at work and could use a good blog update to pass the time.
Neume patch 1.5 sounds really interesting cant wait to see how it goes, my question is.
Will you still need to pledge to the same contacts in order to form a group with people when patch comes out for OB? I heard you guys plan to change this but is this with the matchmaking changes you plan to release later in OB or is this apart of the 1.5 build you guys are working on?
I love big games as do most people who play Id love to see this change added to make getting groups easy.

I am no neume but I can awsner your question. There will not be a wipe once we get into OB as they plan to release the cash shop in OB and they will not have players buy stuff and then have it wiped. This was already awnsered before I am merely re-statating it not giving my opinion etc etc :P
are the attacks mapped to mouse buttons?, if so, will there be an option to map them to keyboard and use mouse like regular mmos? (zoom, click players / mobs, spin camara)

I can tell you that you can indeed bind keys to whatever you like in APB.. it is typical camera style in the sense you can move it independant of your character which is crucial for looking around corners before steeping around corners.
Personaly I like left click to fire but you can easily bind it to any key or any mouse action including mouse wheel whatever feels right for you.

yes this is what we been told, but the game dosent allow for this. games that have different loadouts usually allow you to change when you die.
in apb you have to be by the mobile supply or joker vendor. which at the end of the mision might not be avalible and your stuck with a sniper riffle on cqc not to mention the ui/spawn system just simply dosent allow it
also if the sidegrade system reduces certian stats the players will have too choose the least harmful downsides instead of the better upgrades
I've been frequenting a number of different communities doing this and just realize I haven't yet done one of these here. . SOOOO Here I be! I will openly admit I won't be able to answer every questions but I'll try to answer as many as I can! So here goes! Ask me anything!

We have other ideas if that doesn't help. One idea included adjusting spawns to all have Joker vendors. But doing that makes the mobile supply unit mod less useful. We'll see, ease may overpower nice design.

Is the combat actualy going to work this time? last time the combat was so poor, hitboxing was non existant & made shooting frustrating, but the roofcamping & gear stacking just made you want to turn off the game. We've made some pretty extensive changes to shooting and combat. We've also adjusted some of the roof spots. Fortunately the game is free so you can give it a try and see if you like it .

I am no neume but I can awsner your question. There will not be a wipe once we get into OB as they plan to release the cash shop in OB and they will not have players buy stuff and then have it wiped. This was already awnsered before I am merely re-statating it not giving my opinion etc etc :P
release date?
are the attacks mapped to mouse buttons?, if so, will there be an option to map them to keyboard and use mouse like regular mmos?

The Deathstar destroyed planets...Lucas Arts destroyed Galaxies

Played:
SWG | EVE | WOW | VG | LOTRO | WAR | FML | STO | APB | AOC | MORTAL | WOT | BP | SW:TOR
Is the combat actualy going to work this time? last time the combat was so poor,
hitboxing was non existant & made shooting frustrating, but the roofcamping & gear stacking
just made you want to turn off the game.

We've added a bunch of new Joker vendors to help with this. We have other ideas if that doesn't help. One idea included adjusting spawns to all have Joker vendors. But doing that makes the mobile supply unit mod less useful. We'll see, ease may overpower nice design.

We've made some pretty extensive changes to shooting and combat. We've also adjusted some of the roof spots. Fortunately the game is free so you can give it a try and see if you like it .
