DT's new drummer revealed...

So, on April 30th it became official...

Mike Mangini will be filling the spot behind the drum kit and, in fact, has already been in the studio writing and recording with DT for some time now.

Was a heck of a line-up they had auditioning for the role, including Derek Roddy, Marco Minneman, Mangini (of course), Virgil Donati, and 3 other world-class drummers.

There's a 3 part documentary about the auditions and how they selected Mike Mangini as the man for the job. His reaction when he gets the news is awesome.

Their choice came down to either Mangini, or Marco Minneman... both of whom would have been great choices.

So... congratulations to Mike Mangini! Definitely will be interesting to see - or hear, rather - what their next album is like.

    Neat, a band I've never heard of until now got a new drummer I've never heard of till now.

    Congrats guy I don't know and congrats to the band who's so popular that if you add up all the views from all their videos on youtube, you still don't get 1mil.

    i have a couple dream theatre cds and have seen them in concert a few times, but i had no idea what dt stood for till i saw the video lol

    First Kevin and then Mike.  DT really isn't the same band I used to like anymore.  Last time I saw them in concert a few years ago, I walked out.

    I havent bought any of their albums after octavarium..Are they any good?  My fav is still Metropolis pt 2 @_@

    I didnt know the band, but Mike Portnoy, the drummer who will be getting replaced, is an AMAZING drummer.

    DT = Dream Theatre.

    Since no one wanted to type the damn thing out.

    Like Sonata Arctica a lot more, since they seem to be compared a lot.

    .. But in a good way.
