Ichben: It’s me mam, Ichben, how are you today??



Deta: Who??



Ichben: Ichben Mrs. Walker. This is Ichben Einberliner, your son’s roommate. How was your weekend?



Deta: What you want?



Ichben: Oh….um…well I was wondering when I will be receiving my rent check for this month?



Deta: rent check?



Ichben: Yes mam, the rent for this month…



Deta: Boy you ain’t getting no rent check!!!



Taken aback and puzzled, I continue on…



Ichben: um…why not?



Deta: Cause my son ain’t living with you no more….He done moved out the place. Said you was giving him a hard time…said you weren’t talking to him no more…so he done left….



I am utterly confused right now and a little flustered, I regain my calm, maintain my composure and continue on with the conversation.



Ichben: Mrs. Walker I had no idea your son was having issues with me. We've been living together for months and he never told me there was tension between us? Hell I didn’t even know he had moved out! He never told me Mrs. Walker. Why didn’t he tell me he was leaving?? Why didn’t YOU tell me there wasn’t going to be no rent check coming this month!!!



Deta: What I do and what my son does is none of your goddam business. Besides, I don’t got to explain myself to you, my son ain’t living with you no more and you ain’t getting no check!!!



Ichben: Mrs. Walker, I do not know what happen between me, you and your son, but what you are doing to me is wrong Mrs. Walker, it’s just downright wrong and I think I may have to get my lawyer involved….



Deta: (laughing) Lawyer….Lawyer…boy you ain’t got nothing on me, that lease you sign was between you and Tonto. I already paid you for the month of April and my son left on the 29th We don’t owe you nothing boy…NOTHING!!!



Ichben: But mam, your son NEVER told me he was moving out? He didn’t give me a warning, notice or ANYTHING!! He just upped and left…he basically disappeared!!!!



Deta: And your point is???



Ichben: My point is I thought he was still living with me!!! Even when he had moved out I thought we were still roommates. I thought I would be getting a rent check this month!! If you or your son had told me…



Deta: Listen white boy…did it say in the lease agreement that my son had to give you 2 weeks’ notice before he left??



Ichben: Uh…I’m not sure mam, I don’t have the contract with me I’ll have to go and….



Deta: Did that say anything about giving you any kind of notice before moving out??



Ichben: Once again Mrs. Walker I am not sure, I’ll have to go back and check but….



Deta: So you got NOTHIN!!!



Getting a little bit angry and annoyed



Ichben: Deta, I will go back and look at the lease with my lawyer to review it’s contents. But the thing that angers me in this whole situation is you led me to believe your son was still a resident in my condo.



Deta: But he ain’t no more…



Ichben: Yes that is true, but if I hadn’t called you to inquire about his rent payment I would have gone on assuming he was still living in my condo as a resident.



Deta: Well, sonny, what can I say…you live and you learn.



Ichben: What you and your son did was wrong Mrs. Walker, just wrong and unethical.



Deta: Child you just mad because you didn’t get what you want…



Ichben: Mrs. Walker, is your son in trouble? Does his unexpected departure from my place of residence have anything to do with his legal troubles with his ex-girlfriend.



Deta gets a little flustered



Deta: Boy you minding your nose in places you shouldn’t be minding in….



Ichben: Mrs. Walker isn’t it true your son had his 2011 SUV taken away from him because his girlfriend literally smashed it with a bat? Yet you had no idea of this? And now his ex girlfriend is filing harassment charges against him? Mrs. Walker, what is wrong with your son, what is going on!!!



Deta: You look here you son of a bitch!!! My boy is a good boy. He done nothing wrong, it’s people like you and that bitch of a girlfriend of his that’s causing a lot of trouble. You ain’t getting your money and you sure as hell ain’t taking me to court cause if you do I’ll kick yo ass!!! You hear me boy, you hear me!!!!



Ichben: (sigh) Okay Mrs. Walker, I think I’ve had enough, you’ll be hearing from me again soon.



Deta: Bring it white boy!!!



Ichben: I wish you or your son had told me he was moving out. I wish you’d had told me no rent check was coming? What are you trying to hide? Why are you acting this way Mrs. Walker? What in the world is going on?



Deta hangs up
