Knowing the UK is one of the countrys affected and the fact I had 14 accounts to SWG, EQ2 etc in 2007 then its extremely worrying.

WTF are we supposed to do change our banks that we have built relationships with over 10+ years.

Actually my old cc information from 2007 is still valid. My card wasnt due to a reissue for a long time still. 6 yrs and counting. So yeah perhaps visas in some countries in europe are valid longer than you are used to where youre from. But dont asume they have all naturally expired, altho some ofcourse will have. I have now had mine closed and reissued a new one early.

My CC details are also valid, been using the same card for years. Never had a problem online. Already been in touch with my bank and given them the details. They are issueing me with new cards. Should have them by end of week. Also they are keeping close eye on my accounts (as am I)

Absolutely no. It's not enough. Credit monitoring for 3-5 years is, not a freaking trial to their system.

This is certainly not SCE/SOE's "fault" they were hacked, but the complete disregard they show for their customers personal data is unforgivable.

And please explain to me HOW SOE took their games offline when they found out about the SCE/PSN breach, but quickly had their services back up and running, stating it was "all clear", only to have them take it all down again a week later?! Before SOEs games came back online, they had a responsibility to ensure their system was safe. They didn't.

So am I correct. PC users only personal information (name, address, email, date of birth) has been stolen- but not credit card details? Oh great personal information is bad people can identity fraud with that ffs. Thanks Sony.

    The sky is falling ...

People who hated SOE now have a new reason to hate.

Paranoid people now have a reason to fear being taken over by mind snatchers.

Greedy people are looking to cash in on the what is probably going to be a large settlement.

The rest of us just don't care .... we understand that all the security in the world can be broken, that hackers can and will break all security protocols if they so desire. We also understand that our credit unions or banks will correct any charges. There are also a few of us who actually have identity theft protection clauses in almost all of our finacial fine print.

By all means though, do continue panicing.

it's not about the CC information... They took 100million identity data and 'only' 2.2 million creditcard data and even fewer bank/direct debit data...

It's clear that the hackers didn't want the creditcard data, but took them as an 'extra' on the much bigger fish: our identities. As said in one of the other threads on this topic. Keep the coming years an eye out for odd credit ratings on your person. They'll use your identity data to get a lot more than just credicards... They'll use postal order systems, make bank accounts on your name (and their addres), and more of the sort. How about making fake pssports? You think someone checks the SSN on the passport? Nah, just the name and picture. Hell, if they have a passport named to John Doe (enter your name here) with their own picture (not John's) and a random SSN on it they manage to open bankaccounts, get creditcards and other stuff, all on the name of John Doe.

That's the real threath here, not those few small amounts withdrawn on your current creditcard...

    [EDIT]

Before you ask how I know: I've worked for a bank in credit collection and fraud prevention. Seen it happen way too many times :'(

    WRONG

Federal law says you're liable for the first $50. Whether the CC company decides to collect is up to them.

Good thing I have never given them any of my info and I chose Xbox over Playstation...

I would like them to pay for a credit report once a month for life.  You have to monitor them to make sure people aren't trying to get a credit on your good name.  That would be a start.  Second, they have to offer to compsate with money for people to hire lawyers to deal with any such issues.  Finally, how about $1,000,000,000.00 US Court fine.

Fire Smedley immediately, hire Furor away from Blizzard. Furor revamps warrior the way it should be. Everquest goes free to play and back to original plus first two expansions and ends there! My characters are returned with all the gear applicable to those expansions (I had about everything good from that era). Boy will I rock!

If you have any questions please ask. I have moved on to WoW from eq and no longer have any desire to play a dead game. Thank you. (posted by another selling his account in EQ1)

Well, they are all ready doing free credit reports to US residents according to their page about this.

Dude.. c'mon.. I know it's popular to jump on the SOE hate wagon, and yes, this leak is absolutely huge, but let's not pretend they're just throwing your account information around like confetti at a wedding!

The company's future and profits are based on keeping your information secure. They didn't do it on purpose, they're not negligent. Well, as far as I know they aren't, but that's what investigations are for. But these hacking attacks are targetting lots of major companies right now. Look at all the other big boys that have suffered data theft in the last couple years. What kind of compensation did Apple offer?

Granted, this is a massive issue, but let's not throw around bullshit just because it's cool to hate SOE. At their offices I bet you'll find a bunch of people doing the best they can to earn a living, just like you and I. And I bet there's a lot of people right now, working at their offices, that are suffering sleepness nights as it is.

How unbelievable it may sound to you. Yes they did!  They stored personal information UNENCRYPTED in their databases.

With the PSN network breach, there Sony even stored credit card information UNENCRYPTED in their databases!

They were using outdated vulnarible software on their systems, which also didn't get properly updated with the latest security updates.

This is the basis of the Class Action Lawsuit against Sony that's being prepared right now in the US. And you can count on it that the EU will take similar steps against Sony about this!

Being hacked and have data stolen by hackers is one thing! And it is a criminal act by these hackers!

But in this case, Sony and SOE basically handed all our personal information (and financial information) to them on a silver plate!!

In case of SOE, they were also careless by issuing a statement over a week ago saying that no data had been stolen and now a week later (more than 2 weeks after the hacking) they suddenly take everything down and issue a press release that data of all their customers has indeed been stolen!   This is also highly unprofessional and totally careless on their behalf as well!

the cc info was encrypted actully

  • jeremyjodesjeremyjodes Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 679

All they will get from me is a fake sign-up name and an outdated list of old game time cards for old SWG. I learned never to use my real idenity years ago for that very reason.

I gotta say karma is real in this case for SOE. but for those that used their real names...man bad move.

      Lmao   nice offer. For what?

    - For a perhaps future bank-theft of customers bank-accounts? (when those data gets sold to people who know what to do wit it)

    - For being sloppy with the Security System? Prolly want to save money and don't invest into upgrades for sure

    - For a future Advertisment-Spam into the customers personal Mailbox, at Home!? (when those data gets sold to add-companies)

Nice try sony :-D Man, I have such a big grin on my Face how naive they think their customers are :-D

We the people have an obligation to use our common sense as well to protect ourselves.  You can not ask for them to hand everything to you for the rest of your life because of an intrusion on a lawbreaking persons part.  The lawbreaker is who you have to get compensation from on that part if you are wanting lifetime compensation that is what fines, court costs, Prison time, and such is for is to pay repentance for the crome that was commited. the person/persons who hacked have to compensate you beyond whatever Sony will and can do.  And put a fraud report in with one of  the credit companies and they will pass it onto the other 2.

Yes it would be nice to say that none of this is going to cause panic and so forth but the fact is is that Sony is doing everything that they can do at this time to further prevent things from happening and the reason for the invesigation is to try anf figure out where the information was hacked from.  Codes within codes have to be gone through.  Sony may not know all of the information at this time of what got out and that is what the investigation is for is so that they can figure out and protect us from further harm.  And I have seen the comments about the reason Sony is so horrible is because it was 77,000,000 people but the truth is is that other companies are not big enough to have that much get out.  That is the only reason Sony is having so many issues is they are HUGE not just 12,000,000 consumers like Blizzard has for WoW and that is why this is coming out so much does that make it any less of a crime that other people's info has been leaked out from other MMO companies?  Just because they were smaller?  I think not.  This is being blown WAY out od proportion because it was a BIG company it happened to but this was bound to happen to one of them it just happened to be Sony that got hacked and not some other HUGE company is all.

Hackings have been going on for a long time with people's info getting leaked you jsut didn't know about it because those companies were to small to admit it.  I commend Sony for admitting everything and making sure we know who those of us were whose information was leaked as I am one of them.  But this is nothing new it just has never been this big before.

No.  SOE is not providing you with a free credit report.  The United States Congress passed a law several years ago dictating that US citizens are entitled to one report from each of the 3 reporting agencies free of charge.  If, for whatever reason, you already had gotten a credit report for the year you are sh!t out of luck unless you want to pay.  Sony has done nothing for anyone but give your information away because of their ineptness and incompetence.  Best part is, if you weren't actively subscribed your information still got hacked and Sony ain't giving you sh!t.

I just did everything required to keep me safe from this intrusion and it took like 15 minutes. Once the station comes back up ill take another 2 minutes changing my password. Seriously people the sky isnt falling. If you dont trust SOE anymore then fine dont play..........but i gaurantee you after this SOE will have a stick up there ass with repsect to security b/c if this ever happens again its game over for them.

May I suggest that people with concerns about the thieft of creditcard numbers really should look into iether using game cards or something similar. Personally I like gift cards, i.e. goto Wal-Mart and get a gift card in the amount of whatever you need $14.95 or whatever) and use it to pay for the game you play.

The problem is that people outside US have no option to use Gametime cards, as SOE only sells them in the US.

Use Gift carts like the Visa gift card. That will get you around needing a Game card.
