Trion announced a few changes to their naming policy (for all servers), they have removed the following points:
9. Comprised of partial or complete sentence (e.g., "Getpwned", "Luvtodance", etc);
11. Referring to pop culture icons or personas (e.g. "McLovin", "Kyle Broflovski", "Catwoman");
12. That utilizes "Leet" or "Dudespeak" (e.g., "Roflmao", "Roxxurboxx", "Lolzumad"); or
13. That incorporates titles. For purposes of this subsection, "titles" shall include without limitation 'rank' titles (e.g., "General Chow," or Captain Kangaroo), monarchist or fantasy titles (e.g., "KingLoko", "LordPauleyC"), and religious titles (e.g., "ThePope," or "Reverend Run").
So if you want that name of lolcat1337 you can have it and better yet you can have it on the RP server, safe in the knowledge that no matter how many times it gets reported you can keep it and carry on wrecking the immersion of the RP players as you travel by.
The laughable thing about this is a GM said that this was bringing the naming policy in to line with what they use internally, so the rules they have given to us have always been ignored by the powers that be, brings in to question how many of their policies are different to what we have been given?
It has been stated very clearly that as far as the RP servers go Trion is prepared to do nothing to support its RP players. This is a quote from the same GM
The thing that bugs me about that quote is how he's turned the smoking analogy in their favour yet to an RP player it is clearly the other way around, it's like sitting in a non smoking section with a smoker coming in and blowing smoke in your face.
Our stance on an RP server is similar to a smoking section at a restaurant (for those of you who live in states that still allow such things). The idea is to allow a place of like-minded individual a place to gather and be amongst others who share some of the same thoughts and ideals. People are welcome to sit in a smoking section and not smoke, if they choose to. RP servers function in much the same way. They allow for a server of like-minded individuals to come together and play. We don't however require players to RP in order to play on an RP server.
No one is requesting RP should be enforced on an RP server but a naming policy should reflect the play style of the server and be upheld. Trion launched with an RP server, that said to the RP community 'you are welcome here' by not having a naming policy to support RP and point blank refusing to do anything to support that RP server Trion shouldn't have started with one, RP players would have gravitated towards one server with no expectations, this move however has shown the RP community that yet again lip service is the best to expect from a game.
Disappointing.

Yep. I acutally used password recovery so I could post instead of browse these forums, just so I could post about this as a warning to RPers to avoid Rift.
I as said on the main forums:
I have cancelled. I prefer to play games on RP servers that enforce naming guidelines. I'm the non smoker choosing to stand up and leave the restaurant, because the manager has no problem with the cigar puffer parked in the middle of the non-smoking section and tells me to enjoy the secondhand smoke (cause it's "cute") and the side of lung cancer. By posting here, I'm telling my other non-smoking friends that this particular restaurant isn't for us. By emailling links to the relevant posts to reviewers, I am letting the foodies know that good food cannot be had there (we all know smoking changes taste in food).
Meh who truly full out actually "role-plays" anyway. Although I must admit that after doing this, they might as well just not call it an RP server anymore. And I'm also not quite sure I see why Trion would do this to the few people left in the world that still "hardcore!" role play.
I dunno I just think that although games are designed to immerse players into their character, people shouldn't take it so seriously. There's life and then there's video games but no in between imo. But this is just my boggle with role-playing doesn't mean that Trion should feel the same way, as a matter of fact they absolutely shouldn't.
[EDIT] AWWWWW SHIT SON!! TRION'S GOIN AND PISSEN MORE PEOPLE OFF!! Another example of a game that had potential and could have been good but will slowly deteriorate because of a bad publisher and shady customer care.
Most people go through life pretending to be a boss. I go through life pretending I'm not.
Plenty of people on RP servers still RP, you just don't notice most of them because they end up sticking to private channels and doing it in out of the way places to avoid ridicule from those who roll on RP servers just to give them a hard time. Most people who RP aren't trying to augment or replace their reality with the game, rather they're extending their enjoyment of the game.
It's not any worse than the players who seem to enjoy acting like sociopathic serial killers on PvP ruleset servers. But it's okay for them because 'it's just a game'...
Yea thank god their not acting like sociopathic serial killers on RP servers right, then we'd have trouble! Well I'm glad you see that 'it's just a game' ;]

There is another thread on the topic, and even though it was posted later, has more discussion right now. So I am locking this one. Feel free to continue discussion here: http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/431/view/forums/thread/314986/Roleplay-is-no-longer-supported-by-Trion.html
