I have never been a real big fan of free to play games with item shops. They usually end up being somewhat scammy and to compete you have to spend cash. I was pleasantly surprised this weekend when I decided to try out World of Tanks though. I have only been playing a couple days, and although the initial draw to buy coins for some of the perks was there, after a few hours I found it was really not needed at all. If you want to group with friends, at least one person needs to have a premium account though.
Its also not a huge grind to get upgrades. After just 2 matches ( I got lucky with 3 or 4 kills on my second match) I had enough credits and experience to almost fully deck out my starter tank. After only a couple days over the weekend, im already up to a tier 4 tank. Any fan of any of the battlefield games will find this game major fun and even people who arent into FPS games will still find it enjoyable. You start off with a tiny little pea-shooting light tank, but the great thing is that you get into matches that are tier appropriate. So you arent running out there against big heavy tanks in your little tank, its a progression up through the tiers of the tanks. As you tier up, the tanks in your matches get bigger as well.
So anyone that was kind of sitting on the fence about this game, like I was, I recommend downloading the 1.8 gig client and giving it a shot... Its freaking awesome
P.S. I am also not a paid shill for the company, just a long time MMO gamer who is pretty disappointed with the current crop of games and was looking for something to soak up time.

saying you are not a shill, makes you a shill... lololol
i like WoT but its not something i play all the time, kind of just sits and dusts until i have the urge to get my T2 blown up again and again lolol
i do agree though, its a decent game. i dislike the gold tanks in the tier 1 battles as they can shrug off pretty much every shot off a brand new tank while killing everything, but then again part of that is just luck and skill maybe
Yeah there seems to be a german tank you buy with gold that is a little OP for the newbie matches, but I dont see it in every match. We had 3 guys plugging away at it and couldnt get it below 3%... everything kept bouncing off. I have torched some of the other ones though, up in the medium tank matches. The matilda( i think) is a gold purchased medium tank, but not as OP as the light one.
Did post counts get reset? why do I only have 3 posts??
Dude, you can get into a T2 in like 1 hour...

Adventurers wear fancy pants!!!
It's the best free-to-play I have ever tried.
I love the graphics, the gameplay, the history behind it, it really feels polished and even promises lots more with incoming clan wars.
The only negative thing is that sometimes inspires rage when team-mates play foolishly

I actually LOL at some people. Like if I die early in the match, you get to jump around on other peoples tanks while they play and you just WISH you could yell at them to turn around.... Watching them sometimes is hilarious, not frustrating
wow thats pretty small. I expected something much greater in scale
