Poll: Would you pay for Fraud Insurance if your MMO offered it?

jado818jado818 Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 356

Simple Question.. would you be willing to pay for fraud insurance if your MMO offered it and how much would you be willing to pay.

It is my humble opinion, that it was assumed to be a part of the monthly fee already.

I agree.. it should be standard for a mmo to insure its customers...

but I think companies would take to the idea better if they didn't have to pony up the money for everybody upfront and it was an option.

I can tell you for a fact Sony didn't have any of their customers insured... or they wouldn't be offering to enroll them in fraud protection now.

Maybe it would have been better worded if i asked.. "How much more would you be willing to pay each month to have fraud insurance"

i didnt vote cuz i thought yur prices were a bit high ..but id pay 1-3$ more for that..not 5+

but if you think about it ..what would the payback be if you subjected to fraud? and why insure something that is not 100% safe

meaning that no mmo / sub is 100% safe

if some of you people out there think mmo's / subs are 100% safe your sadly mistaken...the interwebz is not a safe place at all

Id imagine game subscription fee's costing more in the future just so companies can protect themselves from liability for hacks like this.

I think 1~5 dollars a month is fair...

If every gamer paid an extra dollar a month on top of their subscription fee.. I'm sure that would more than pay for the occassional large scale fraud and identity theft.

Depends on the game. Right now. No.

If i found a game that offered me all the gaming entertainment i needed so I didnt have to look elsewhere, Id buy whatever they sold.

No why would I pay double on top of what the credit card company already covers? This is stupid to me. If you get fraudulent charges on your credit card cause of a hacker stole it then you wont pay.

There is no point in upping subscription costs just to make you feel safer on something that in the history of the online gaming community rarely if ever happened before till now in this scale and size.

Don't force something people don't need. Also why do people just not buy game time cards instead, this would solve a bunch of problems.

I think it would depend entirely on how much money Sony loses from this debacle

It makes smart business sense to me though.. if they lose a billion + dollars from a data hack...

insuring the data of customers might be more cost effective... especially if you are charging the customers for the extra protection ^^

you might grumble about it.... but Sony is going to have to make back its money somehow..

To protect itself and its customers financially,  it would seem reasonable to raise the cost of its games a few bucks to cover for new insurance protections.

If I didn't trust the game company, I wouldn't play the game at all. That being said, I have bought an authenticator for WoW. $7 one time is worth the assurance, but monthly insurance? Lol.

I think if you were going to purchase fraud insurance you should be buying it through your credit card not through a game.

It wouldn't matter how much they lost, this isn't a good business idea anyway you cut it. You can't justify the means by supplying the mistake with unsupported justification.

I am not entirely sure why you would want to pay out additional subscription fee to cover something someone else did and why would you pay double for something your already protected from.

If anything they could charge more in expansion costs slightly per expansion of a buck or two to make up over time but no way would a subscriber bother paying this in the subscription fee, an amount that large or any increase is a hard thing for most folks to handle now days with the economy and job loss. And Sony would lose to many customers, this is why they would never even think of it.

I'm sorry but this would be bad for business.

I'm not going to argue about hypothetical whats good or bad for business ...

just how i feel.. and I don't have a business degree or run an MMO

I just feel costs roll down to customers... if sony gets sued for a billion dollars.. its gonna come from some where.. and cost cutting doesn't seem to be a road they want to be taking atm..

If anything they want to be upgrading their systems.

Insurance might be a stupid idea.. maybe just paying for lawyers to fight credit card insurance companies claims is cheaper than getting insurance for MMO's customers.

I really don't know.. was just a thought.

Well okay, but don't worry to much on anyone winning suit against Sony on this. I highly doubt it would even make it to any judicial proceedings after the prosecution side for the class action gets the full details from Sony attorneys. There is like a 1% chance the people can win this based on what Sony has in terms of power and what people are asking for in terms of monetary class action suit size and what they are being sued for. Highly unlikely anyone will win suit over this.
