What's endgame like?

Considering the special conditions for vanguard, what is endgame like?

What happens when you "max out"?

If you still stay in the game for social reasons or you just think its the most bitching game ever, what exactly do you fill your time with?

No trolling intended, sincerely curious =)

Okay, well first what level are you or were you when you left. If you are starting again then you have a long way to go before you see end game content or even level 40-55 content. Even playing everyday it would take you at least 2 months to reach to level with tons of content in between.

To me, Vanguard is a special and unique game in that you do not want to approach it like you do others. Due to its lack of development, I would say that 98% of Vanguards "meat and potatos" is the journey up to max level. Once you reach the end, that is pretty much "the end".

Now, that is not to say that VG does not have any content, because it does. It has loads and loads of content to where it would take you a very long time to complete if you explored every nook and cranny. Its just with Vanguard, the more you slow down and pace yourself, the better time you will have. Warp speed to end game, and you will most likely be disappointed...because there is nothing really there at the End.

Take some time, enjoy the world. Craft a boat and sail around the world. Explore the lands and find a nice spot to build your house. Engage in some Diplomacy (it can become very addicting...and relaxing). Group up with people and adventure for the sake of adventure...rather than to simply hear that next *ding*. That's about all I can say. Tons of fun and lots to do if you merely take your time and do not rush to the finish line. There is no race.

    This!

I logged in tonight just to "make sure the game was there" and say hi.

I was in a remote place so decided to head back toward the main continent. I jumped in the water to cross to what I thougth was the mainland but instead landed on a very small island with a light house and undead everywere.

so, I eliminated the undead around the base of the lighthouse and entered.

the first thing that struck me was the quality of the light. It was dark outside and the warm light of the light house greeted me. The entire scene seemed homey right down to articles on the table. except for the undead thing standing over the table. I dispatched "it" and made my way up. at one point I made my way out to a second balcony overseeing the island and took out two of the creatures.

I then made my way to a top level and as I killed the last I noticed a chest on a table under some stairs.

Inside was a journal. I took it and it started a quest. I decided to continue to the top of the lighthouse and at the very top I saw that area where the "light' would have been. The door was closed. But as this is Vanguard I clicked on the door and as it swung open I made my way inside the cramped lamp area.

Just to look around and look through the "glass" over the isand and beyond.

to me, THAT is what vanguard is about.

Eye on endgame would do the game a disservice in my opinion.

There is some raiding at top level. but it seems there is a lot to explore in this game. I would almost say that perhaps that's the endgame. To see everything you can.

OP,  I would say that if you ever played morrowind and loved looking in the distance and thinking "what is that over there?" then you should try Vanguard. I would also say that if you prefer a more "old school" style of game, at last when compared to newer offerings then you might enjoy it.

My thought is that if players are looking for an incredibly polished, non stop quest fest or have to see people all over the place all the time, then they might not like it.

I have never played Vanguard, and I agree that the journey to max level is a big part of any MMORPG. I never rush to max, but that said I'm the kind that likes to socialize and stick with a game for a long time, be a part of a potentially awesome community. And as such it would be nice if Vanguard had something to do at max level =)

I'm not sure what to tell you. The game is not being heavily developed. There are raids at top level and of course crafting items, exploring, etc.

but there is only so much that one will be able to raid until they want a 'new' raid. And I don't see Vanguard getting substantial new content any time soon.

I would say try the game and make sure you get off the trial island, just to see what a huge open world looks like.

Before Vangaurd is put out to pasture. At some point.

My advice would be: Try it. See if it appeals to you. They have a free trial, so it really can't hurt any.

If you enjoy the "old school" feel of pre-2004 MMORPGs, you will most likely enjoy Vanguard. Each class is entirely unique in its own right. There is alot of depth in Vanguard. Alot of detail that often gets ignored in MMOs created today. One of my favorite pastimes is (oddly enough) chopping down trees. There is just something about actually seeing a tree fall over and branches crumbling to the ground that I love.

By the sounds of it, I think VG may be right up your alley. It's certainly not for everyone. But it does appear to be possibly right for you? I think you'd fit right in if you enjoy aspects of socializing and enjoy hanging around within a game for a long time (I've been in VG since 2009 and I am still level 32, hehe). Community is great albeit small. But I like that. I like knowing almost everyone on the server. People are friendly and helpful. And there is always something to do if you are creative and adventurous - especially if you like to do other things like Craft.

    Definately give it a go.

You have Dungeons from level 40-55 that are like raids in themselves.

Okay you have overland raid encounters.

You have APW(Ancient Port Warehouse) which has 25+ raid boss encounter and takes a hell of a long time to completet,by long time i mean months.

    Pantheon of the Ancients

    Flying mount quests

    Hillsbury Manor 55 content

    Magi Hold

This is just some of the Dungeons but this has not been updated for years.

Vanguard has a ton of endgame content.

But you will need a full raiding guild to actually see it.

Well, the most fun I've ever had in an MMO was gearing up and getting our guild ready for tackling Ancient Port Warehouse (APW).  APW was by far the most fun raiding experience I've had.  For a non-hardcore guild attempting APW when it was release it was a very difficult but rewarding journey.  Loved everything about APW.

After APW came Pantheon of the Ancients.  The trials were fun, but the faction grinding got pretty boring.  After three years of playing Vanguard our guild finally grew tired grinding PotA faction etc.

We were once very hopeful for an APW replacement such as Stirhaad etc..... but that never happened.
