Aside fromt he obvious diffrent route the game plans on taking, no classes with a loose GW style skill system ( think it was choose 7 passive and 7 active skills that need to be collected and leveled ect) does this lore interest you?
No more helping the lowly farmer rid his fields of boars, or collecting scorpion stingers for the guy whos gonna make your mage a useless poision dagger ect. This might be the first mmorpg that i actually read the text in, some of these myths, conspiracies and plot lines seem actually interesting.
No good faction vs bad faction stories.
From all the released detail, it all seems to be very diffrent from past mmorpgs, even scifi or IP based mmorpgs. A modern times fanatasy.
However its ALWAYS in the execution of it all that makes or breaks a game. I read that some of the quest lines are going to be like jigsaw puzzles, which could take weeks to solve, involve out of game research, and in game help.
Sounds epic, however, will people be able to adapt to a game like this, rather than the quest spam "where do i go what do i kill and how long till endgame" mentality? Or do you think this will be a game that sounds diffrent, but in reality, play very much like a standard mmorpg, but with a diffrent look, and skill/class sytem, meaning will people grind on mobs untill endgame or is this going to be the first game in decades that people actually play the content in?
For me, the only thing that will kill this game is it in execution, the lore, the plots, the quests...if it all turns out to be just the same old in a new setting, for once i want a game whos focus is on playing it, rather than forcing myself to endgame asap to enjoy the pvp or raids. I know, no one is forcing me to do so, but, when the lore is lame (read any fantasy mmorpg ever released), the quests are lame/hard to gain interest in, when all this filler between when i start and "endgame" becomes monotonous and exactly filler, i am then forced to get out of it asap.
So what are you thoughts on the execution of the games very diffrent lore, its possible playstyle...whats everyone hpoing for here. Am i on the same page as others interested in the game, or is everyone looking for a non fantasy skill grinder with wicked engame pvp (not that i dont want this, but i want the game to be more than just this).....
also, i dont care about the company behind the game, other threads for that before we get 500 "it will fail because its...." comments. your thoughts on the execution of the games lore, mechanics, playstyle, and what your hoping for in this game.

My personal opinion: I think that TSW has the best lore and setting I've encountered so far in an MMORPG.
As for the quests or missions, there are several categories, you have the Investigations, those are the puzzle and mystery quests that you talked about; you have Sabotage missions, which are more in the style of Metal Gear Solid and Thief stealthy missions, and then you have your ordinary missions and quests. There's also something like ARG raids, which are Investigation mission but then of the kind where a whole guild or more guilds need to work together to resolve them.
Regarding the Investigations, they already said that you don't have to do them to progress in the game, but doing it will unlock more content for you and a deeper dive into the world of The Secret World and into the secrets, mysteries and events that are taking place all around.
The regular missions and quests, I think they'll be like the quests in AoC, where they're voiced over and such.
There was 1 extra thing that jumped out though, namely that missions had tiers instead of save points (like you have in single player games) and that you had to keep going until a mission had reached that next tier before that mission progressed. If you failed to make it to the next tier, then I'm guessing you had to do it again?
I saw one example where a police station had to be defended against waves of attacking zombified townspeople, only after doing that successfully could you move on towards seeking out and destroying the source of those rabid waves of newly undead.
Another thing was monster ecologies, where monsters didn't just spawn, but where a whole process was happening, where female draug rose from the sea with pods which they carried to the beach. At the beach the pods were dropped and guarded by undead and other draug, until they opened up to reveal another draug/undead that started roaming around.
Well, those were the things that jumped out so far. Much is still unknown.

Makes me laugh a little as the 'Lore' is based on Real World lore so ya... They didn't go dig very deep. Maybe one or two trips to the librairie or some conspiracy net sites. BUT! I love it so, cool.
I'm looking forward to this title and i do hope it is different. But I'm sure you'll have your regular 'Kill quest'. I just hope they make them interesting instead of just X of 'this' and y of 'that'. not that I hate doing thesereally but it does get repetitive quick if that's all the game offers.

Heh, yeah, that's the ingenious part of it, they don't have to come up with a totally new world and lore, they can use what is already there in conspiracy theories, folklore and legends and myths and build further from there.
People are already familiar with Bigfoot, Wendigo, Atlantis, Templars, Illuminati and so on, they only need to show how the differences, how they take their place ingame.

Can't wait to play this game & I hope it becomes wildly successful so as to send a message to the industry that we are ready for something new. Getting tired of WoW clones & "Theme Park" games
Regarding the tiers, I found this what was said about it:
The floating text of the virtual reality-style interface is a nice touch, as are the "tiers" that save your progress through missions which seem longer and more involved that your average quest - Eurogamer
When players complete a certain part of a mission they are said to have beaten a 'tier' of the mission, which is basically an auto-save feature allowing you to leave the mission at any time and return later without consequence - MMOsite
Lead Content Designer Joel Bylos took us into Kingsmouth for a look at some early missions and bosses. First, he pointed out the Tier system, which saves your progress in an area (not just on a mission basis) should you wish to leave and come back - Tentonhammer
I have no idea how this works in practice, but some people said that AO had a sortlike system and that TSW's implementation will probably be an offshoot of that system, just like Agartha resembles The grid in a way.

I really hope they'll deliver.. The game promises a lot of great things.. But like we've seen with the latest releases, it is how Funcom will handle the launch and how much content will be available past the free month that will make the game a success or not...
This game really caught my interrest and unless a game breaker show up, I'll definitly get this one..
Thats the good thing about this game....all those multi-million dollar IP....few actually care, its all generally the same theme of good faction vs bad faction, or some variation of it. It all involves woefully boring content, and honestly, to get those IP based games full effect, you need to wrap yourself up in the IP. For instance with AoC, i didnt care about conan, i never read any conan books, the IP didnt appeal to me, however the combat, graphics, and pvp did. Funcom wasted money on an IP few cared about, granted it did have a following, and it may be those who still remain...for me that IP was a waste, i could have cared less what the story was, i was there for other reasons.
This appears to be a lore that you dont need to care about, its stuff we all are at least somewhat aware of, perhaps this will make it easier to get into.
I think back to Rift, and the endgame bosses going though their RP before the fight....no one cared, no one wanted to listen to it, and only a few payed attention to all the boring little details that would have made those endgame enounters mean anything....in fact, i never ran across anyone running dungeons who cared or knew what the hell the bosses RP part were about, they just wanted to kill them get the loot and move on.
You can only go so far with these fantasy based IP's before you just stop caring.
TSW offers stuff were already familair with, and TBH its interesting to see how they play it all out, tie it all in together...im actually interested in the IP rather than simply the mechanics...mechanics that interest me as well....going to be interesting to see how it all gets executed.
I am in- for me I love ARG's and they have it. I love skill systems and they 500 skills. You will quest, run, kill, explore. and solve puzzles. They will deliver just those options that. Its that simple for me. Gui, Hud, Kill, Explore, Choose Skills, Solve, PvP, there we go.
I like the Call of Cthulhu/X-Files/Twin Peaks and the Shadowrun (without the tech and metahumans) take on the game and I hope TSW is a decent success.
I like Funcom those guys always try to innovate, features like No Classes or Levels (which should improve blance and zero grinding yay!), Sandboxed (well it sounds like it is), Dress Up Anyway You Want (dress up in a trenchcoat with shades Neo style or dress up like Dick Tracey/Mike Hammer), 1000's of guns & magic, 3 factions, a story line, modern setting, killing monsters, Demons and the supernatural, if they implement vehicles it will be modern cars, whats there not to like it all smells like roses from where I'm typing? I think everything will lie with Funcoms excution and how well TSW is designed which will determine success or fail.
