I'm currently playing DFO and considering giving another sandbox MMO a shot. I tried EvE Online for about 2-3 weeks but I cant seem to get into the sci-fi genre, hence the reason I probably wont even both with TOR once it comes out. I'm considering MO, Xsyon, and Earthrise. Of those three Xsyon seems the most unique which could make the game very refreshing for me. I'm coming from many years of playing themepark MMOs and now about 15months of DFO. I'm open to anew type of game with a different focus so I'm not too conserned about that.
How is Xsyon now in its current state? Is it worth buying as theres no free trial? How is the population and overall game mechanics? What takes place in an average day playing Xsyon? Are there any game breaking bugs currently that will turn me off?
Basically I'm just looking for any info that might help me to decide whether to try it or not.

None of those 3 are ready for prime time and each will require you to have a lot of patience and willingness to believe in the Developers vision to find enjoyment in the game.
Only one of them I played was Xyson and truthfully, there reallly isn't much of a game there right now unless you love crafting and city building. Combat is poorly implemented and there's no real purpose to it. (It not even fun for the sheer fun of it)
From what I've read, most folks these days aren't playing all that much and are more or less staying subbed hoping for better to content to be added in the future.

Xsyon is not worth playing at the moment, not to mention giving money for it. You should wait at least 6 months to 1 year. Things are happening slowly and the excitement from launch is over.
Stick to DF and wait for the new sandbox games to evolve just like DF did.
Xsyon is very rough. I'm playing it - and enjoying it - but the game currently is, at best, half ready.
Population is low and has dropped considerably during the last two months. There are no game breaking bugs but one could rightly argue that there are a lot of game breaking missing features that aren't yet implemented at all. Because of these missing features many people have left the game.
My personal estimate is (and yes, I'm pulling that out of my nose) that it will take another 6 months or so to get the promised features implemented in some way. How the game mechanics will work in 6 months? Nobody, not even the developers, will know at this time.
As said, personally, I enjoy the game but I'm aware that the large majority of gamers currently will not enjoy Xsyon. Try it if you don't mind blowing $40 for a half finished paid beta - if you're on a budget you'd better play something else.

Personally i think it's a little ridiculous that they're making you pay for what essentially is a beta. Any ways, you might try Dawntide. I played in the beta for a short while and it has promise from what i could tell, and the devs seemed to be updating regularly; at least when i played it last. All the others that i could really recomend, have been and i'm just waiting for GW2 my self.
You have to pay 40 bucks to do a beta of a haff finished product. That sound like a scam. All I can say is wow remeinds me of another game that was in beta that had a cash shop.
No thanks.
My only hope is they never have an item shop in Xyson and it NEVER becomes a F2P MMO.
Since you aren't in this game - leaves me more tree's to chop down and critters to kill.
