Average Cash shop item cost?

GarkanGarkan Member Posts: 552

CCP recently introduced a cash shop for vanity items in EVE online and everyone was astounded at the cost of these items, you could probably clothe yourself in reasonable middle of the road quality clothes for the price of these items.

$20 or so for a shirt and $15 for some pants and so on, many people have basically told CCP that they expect to be shipped an RL item for the price CCP are asking.

It just makes me wonder what items in the various games cost, my only experience is with STOs C-Store which although its a major negative issue for many players isn't actually that expensive.

If you took the average sort of item in a cash shop in other games how much would it cost you in RL money?

Currently playing:

EVE online (Ruining low sec one hotdrop at a time)

Gravity Rush,
Dishonoured: The Knife of Dunwall.

(Waiting for) Metro: Last Light,
Company of Heroes II.

    It really depends tbh o.o

I usualy measure these in terms of "what can i get with 15$ a month in this cash shop"

In S4, yo ucan get a full set of clothing for a month.

In APB, you can get 2 weapons for a month.

So if you look at it per item, then it depends on the item.

Some items are meant to be purchased en masse such as upgrade protection, potions, etc. and those usually 1-3$

Most useful items are roughly 3-5$

As cAstille said, it really depends on the game. There are games which you will pay over $20 just for a CHANCE (usually a very small one) of getting some sort of upgrade you can use to make your equipment stronger. RF Online is an example of that. You pay something like $24 for a medium box (most common ones sold, large boxes are even more) which has a chance to give you a random number of upgraded slots (game ranges from 1-7, medium boxes usually result in 2-4, sometimes 5 slots,a nd in extremely rar ecaes up to 6 slots) and then theres 4 different Types of weapons & armor, Normal, A-Class, B-class, C-class. The upgrader is random and can be ANY of those classes, and is usually normal or A-class, both pretty much usless. B-Class is the one most people are aiming for, but youve got like a 5% chance of getting an upgrader which is 1) B-class 2) enough slots to be worth the money you spent since you can upgrade pretty safely for free to +3 & with a bit of luck +4

Basically if you don't get a B-class in general (or if you have a specific weapon you want it for, C-class), with at least a 3-5 or 3/4-6 upgrade, you just pissed away over $20 for absolutely nothing. Then even if you get one of those, youve got to be very lucky for it to actually upgrade to 5 or 6 instead of 3 or 4. Sad thing is, people actually buy them constantly, and usually multiples of them. My own brother used to drop like $300 on boxes when he got his paycheck every 2 weeks, and not once did he manage to get a +6 upgrade, and only a handful of +5.

On the othe rhand youve got several private servers for RF online which have a great population, partly because instead of the gamble on the official game, you basically buy things like X weapon with X numbe rof upgraded slots, or pay a few bucks each per slot to a weapon you already have. You can spend like $50 in most cases and be very well geared vs shelling out hundreds, even thousand of $ on the official game and having nothing useful at all.

Theres a lot fo game sout theret hat operate similarly to RF with the whole gamble thing. In Comparison, not rally bad at all for EVE.

I can't really grok this. Each company prices items at what they deem the market value is for their income needs.  The fact that one company offers a sparkly horse for $25.00 has zero bearing on how much anonther company should sell it for.  This isn't the normal supply and demand situation as each company has a lock on their own game worlds.

Like others have said, depends on the game.

In ROM it seems like I was buying tokens equal to about 10 US to purchase a mount, however in Earth Eternal I purchased an Item recycler (sort of like a portable store) and something else which were about 20 dollars each (1/2 off sale).

unfortunately, the game closed 3 weeks after I bought them (the sale was a last ditch effort at survival)

Haven't really bought much else from a F2P game.
