Ohh and it was said that Cryptic is Lazy Becuase of user Generated content?? Seriouslly?? Out of all the games and that includes City Of Heros that have user gen Content why is Cryptic the only one that gets burned for doing it???
I know it's been said as a joke but this may actually be Cryptic's most recent hit due to the UGC being available at the start. I'm actually interested to see how it turns out.
I never played any Cryptic games so I have nothing to compare this game to.
I have been following NWN for a while and I am very excited .I particularly appreciate the way Cryptic is going to be following the rule set as closely as possible and adhering to the Lore of the Forgotten Realms
I am an avid fan of D&D so this is important to me
Cryptic also made City of Heroes and if its anything like the player generated content on there, it will be awesome. They did an amazing job in CoX and I am sure they have improved on it since I last played. So far it looks like an awesome game and I am holding my breath!
To be perfectly honest I'm at the point where a game with Cryptic's name on is one to avoid.
Ok I might be missing something here...But why are people acting like Cryptic has made tons of bad games?? If im not Mistaking they only where involved in 3 games right?? City of Heroes, STO, and Champions right??? But people are acting like they have made Tons of bad games..lol..City Of Heroes and City of Villians I thought were great games right??? Champions Started crappy but its gotten alot better...And I have never played STO so i dont know about that one...I just dont know what people are tired of as far as Cryptic game Dev projects?
Create own dungeons and content and all is always nice but we are talking about Cryptic here, I bet we will only be able to use the basic template for making own content if you want more tools, textures, mobs, sounds ect it will all be in thier cash shop.
I agree...
Cryptic Studios just don't make good games. No matter what they say you always will have it in the back of you mind that its BS ...because of what they did in there other games.
And don't think thoughts OTHER guys are not there.... JACKALOPE is back as the COO .... You just cannot use the same recipe and expect a different result!
....after all its in a 2 year rushed dev cycle ... they have to do UGC...

Cryptic positively RUSHED STO onto the market, and every single person who played it could tell. From what I recall, it had a huge number of bugs and very limited content at release. I also remember something similar being said about Champions. Basically, Cryptic's MO is to consider a game to be constantly under-development, and the playerbase responds by calling it a pay-to-beta model. As a result, Neverwinter may end up being a great game about a year after its release, but at release it's liable to be worthless. Then again, NWN was the same way - something us Bioware fans tend to conveniently forget.
It's Cryptic, thats my interest gone out of the window. It's inevitable that they will do a big steaming dump on this IP too. Why do all my Favourite IP's keep going to this studio!?!
It's not going to be good. It's not supposed to be good. Doesn't anyone see what's happened? Do you honestly believe developers like Cryptic, Funcom, and Turbine are getting second, third, and fourth chances in hopes they are going to create the next big thing this time? It's a money grab, pure and simple. Find an IP that either hasn't been used yet or still has some life left in it, take 1 feature from category A, 1 from category B, etc., then roll it out. With any luck box sales will be decent people will pay for a few for more months after that and they'll make few bucks. When subs drop below a certain level relaunch as FTP and forget about it. Move on to the next thing. Why do you think they keep copying the same game over and over again?

In honest answer to your question, no one sold it to them. Here's some history:
WotC bought TSR in 1997. In 1998, JTS sold Atari to Hasbro. Hasbro bought WotC in 1999, leaving Hasbro as the owner of D&D. Hasbro spun off Atari into its own separate entity in I want to say 2001... At the time of the first NWN, Bioware was simply the programmer, with Atari the publisher. That's because Atari (as a subsidiary of Hasbro) owned the license. This is how Obsidian was able to take over programming on NWN2, and Atari remained the publisher. In 2005, Atari renewed its contract on D&D, buying up the rights to it for the next 10 years from Hasbro. In 2007, Bioware was bought by Electronic Arts, a company in direct competition with Atari. Atari bought Cryptic in 2008, giving them their own in-house MMO publishing studio rather than needing to rely on others.
So clearly, Atari and Bioware can't have the same kind of relationship they once had...
I was really looking forward to this even if I knew that nothing short of a miracle was needed to bring me something NWN1-like with graphics of today.
Watching the trailer destroyed all my fantasies and I realised that this is just another cookie cutter MMO.
If you like games like WoW, GW, WAR, DDO, Aion, LotrO, AoC then maybe this is for you. For me it is going to be a disaster. I know you might feel different when I say that all theese games are the same to me but then so be it.
I'll stay with NWN1 for a while longer I guess....
I built a NWN(1) world called "Ansalon - The World of Krynn". Special NPC's. Newly Scripted encounters, monsters, quests etc. Total of 712 custom area.
If the new NWN is anything like haveing the "Aurora" toolset of NWN1 , I will be in.
Lets hope Cryptic don't stuff it up like they did Star Trek Online...

It doesn't look like this will be an MMORPG at all, it's closer to Guild Wars than it is to an MMORPG.

I bet this toolset is no where near what we have with NWN 1 which is a shame cause if it was they would have folks buying this game for years (NWN Diamond Editon is still in stores and it 10 years old). A lot of content form the community is still being cranked out on NWN 1. Now if only nivida would hurry up with that 200 and up type card driver so i can get decent OpenGL frame rate I could finish my masterpiece, hehe

I would agree with your opinion... if you look at the STO foundry, it is extremely limited in what you can do. NWO foundry may be slightly more powerful than STO, but it's still not going to have near the functionality of NWN.
It's sad, but look at STO, that's what Cryptic does to great IP's. No matter the potential, all the content, lore, history, or anything that makes the IP great. Cryptic does not know how to deliver and maintain a MMO to match the IP.
I love ST and gave STO a fair chance but...sigh. One of the biggest mistakes they made was hiring the folks that killed Hellgate.

It is an MMORPG by definition. Don't be stupid and say it's not.

Will we be able to create adult scenarios?
THis is still one of the more popular Neverwinter Night 2 modules: http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=NWN2ModulesEnglish.Detail&id=250
And it is decidedly adult in nature.
With user dialog etc. what will be 'inappropriate'?
Can we create an adventure that draws a parallel between the situation in Israel vs Palestine, or the genocide in Darfur for example.
Will creators have free reign, or will there be an Apple Walled Garden approach where Cryptic becomes the morality police?
It doesn't look like this will be an MMORPG at all, it's closer to Guild Wars than it is to an MMORPG.

how on earth are these amatuer developers being able to get their hands on top titles such as neverwinter knights.. are people just so insane or what.
they clearly screwed sto up and now they are going to be aloud to wreck neverwinter knights too.
i dont understand it, there are far far far more capable developers out there.
