the next gen sandbox (or so i hope)

this is a sandbox timeline discussions and all this is my personnal opinion and what i think will be MY next long term MMORPG

this is the list of the MMOs i have played for at least 2 years consecutively (read: MMO where i put too much time and effort for my own good)

1 Ultima online played it towards the end of its time

2D mmorpg, large world at the time i was impressed by the fact that we could be more than 8 people in a persistant world

2 StarWars Galaxies (Launch till NGE)

so everything that there was in UO.. BUT IN 3D? and in STARWARS... now we have upgraded to multiple planets with their own weather and climate, the crafting has become an actual profession and not simply a secondary profession. the world seamed very big! specially since there was many planets to explore/visit and build cities. you also had social hubs and tradeposts etc. it was a complete experience

3 EvE online

now we put what SWG had and merge everyone into 1 server and make it galaxy huge! add dangers, crafting and oh the possibilities you could do in this game are only limited by your imagination and the red guy who just uncloaked lit a cyno in frong of your freighter escort.

 

i went from a 2D sandbox limited to a continent to a 3D planetary sandbox to a spaceship 3D galaxy sandbox. the next sandbox that i think will pop my aweness cherry again will be the implementation of a seamless ground to ship air to space sandbox MMO

i know that the technology exists (look here http://www.infinity-universe.com/Infinity/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=17&Itemid=93 )

but this has been in development by like 1 dude over the past billion years (of course i am exagerating, i think its more than 1 dude ) 

do you guys think we will have a publisher/investors/developpers with the "cojones" to develop such a grand scale MMO or will we be stuck with the easy to develop (relatively speaking compared to a full fledged sandbox) "you are the hero, just like everyone else" SW:TOR and GW2 and more run of the mill MMO with subscription + cash shop double dippers?
