Thats honestly all I see when watching guild wars 2 gameplay, It loook just like any old school mmo but with less abilities and a dodge button.
lets see...Dodging, positioning, teamwork. Without these things, a group of players get wiped on the easy version of a dungeon. in SWTOR, the trinity still reigns supreme.
btw Engineer >> bounty hunter.
lol Don't even get me started on the Engineer... seriously, what the hell is that class even doing in this game? I honestly thought it was a continuation of their April Fools joke... Sadly, I was wrong.
I kinda felt the same at first. Now I love it.
I was also dissapointed because it is mostly likely that the mesmer will now be the last class released, and I was really hoping for something along the lines of a Monk... *sniffles* I just want a monk, is that too much to ask?
Right, most of the SWTOR guys I know of are looking forward to both games, how many times do you see a GW2 fan try and belittle TOR in their "GW2 is going to be the bestest thing ever" posts?
How many TOR fans tear down GW2 in the TOR forums? How many TOR fans do you see roaming the GW2 forum, aside from those who are actually interested in both games? How many do you see starting these GW2 will pwn SWTOR threads about TOR?
The only thing the average TOR fan get's up in arms about is misinformation and doom saying. Which there has been an abundance of. Other than that, the constant whining for a SWG2.
Most will be the first to tell you maybe TOR just isn't what you're looking for. They're not the ones out trying to push their Idea of a good game on everyone else.
First of all, it's like Canada Vs. Americans. Americans spend a lot less time making fun of Canadians, because generally speaking, they're off the radar of consciousness (The WHO? Oh yeah, aren't they part of France?)
Second of all, do you REALLY want me to make a list? They're there. Yeah, there are GW2 fans bashing SW:ToR =and I will never deny this=.
... but there are lots of SW:ToR fans bashing merrily away at GW2 as well. I'm not going to make a list of these people, because that would be WEIRD, and I don't really hate them or anything, I'm not trying to start some kind of crazy hit-list, but let's just say at least four of them are posting in this very thread. You can find them in nearly every GW2 thread that mentions good features of GW2, and most of the time you can even find them before anybody makes any comparison to SW:ToR. Fandom is full of CRAZY people. I cannot deny this for almost any fandom. I have been an import game collector, into martial arts, into anime/manga, and other fandoms as well, and let me be the first to say that if you don't have crazy haters in your fandom, you're not a real fandom, you're just a collection of boring people who like something.
You know, there are plenty of GW2 fans who aren't saying anything bad about SW:ToR. I'm one of them. Maybe you haven't met me before. Nice to meet you. (Well, I mean other than the fact that SW:ToR is obviously created by THE DEVIL. ... but it's a video game. They're all created by the devil.)
I personaly will side with gw2 here, Bioware overall have been godsend when it comes to creating games i truly enjoy.
But DA2 was a hugh disapointment, it was not just subpar it was down right awfull. But they are quite busy with TOR so i hope it was theyr B-team that built DA2.
As for TOR itself i cant say im that stoked, i will buy it when it release but we will see where it goes from there.

So the correct answer is to stoop to the level of your lowest competitor? Do the same thing I do when reading crazy posts against GW2 from SW:ToR people! Pretend that they recently suffered a very tragic death in the family and the emotional upset and loss has caused them to temporarily lose their senses. Heh a voice of reason. Look, I have criticism of SWTOR as well, they probably should have waited on the space portion for example, playable alien races etc.. But you mention one criticism about GW2 and people have a cow. Really?! Really?! How long have you play an mmo or even games? Every freaking game has the same thing going on with it. Hell, even minecraft and terraria has epeen contest going on with them and they are developed by small indie devs. So please don't even try to say people following GW2 are overly fanatical. (Well, some are but that is with most games that have a decent following. Even SWTOR.)
Thats honestly all I see when watching guild wars 2 gameplay, It loook just like any old school mmo but with less abilities and a dodge button.
And you wouldn't be wrong but is it fun though? Isn't that the REAL question?
yes, but I think the real question is this. Is it fun to realize your group wiped because you got feared off of a cliff, something that wouldn't have happened if you just learned to either avoid cliffs or stun the necromancers lots? I think it is fun to have to use actual strategy to win a battle. The action combat just makes it more fun than it already is...dodge...1...0
You just made me add "Strategy" to my list of over used words on MMORPG.com. A lot with:
Innovation
Immersion
Thats about it really.
Is it more strategic to stand on a hill in GW2 or just common sense with the game mechanics? I think at the end of the day the fights in GW2 will simple boil down to the most effifant (Spelling) like all other MMOs.
Heh a voice of reason. Look, I have criticism of SWTOR as well, they probably should have waited on the space portion for example, playable alien races etc.. But you mention one criticism about GW2 and people have a cow.
Well then show me a researched constructive criticism of GW2 in this thread! This thread is a bunch of people saying in their opinion ANet and GW2 sucks, and anyone that disagrees is fracked in the head. Will at the same time saying how Bioware and TOR are the best things on the planet.
Yeah that is some well thought out constructive criticism there!
Did you not see the part in yellow? Anyway of-topic discussion, is off-topic.
He's trying to imply that GW1 can be "considered an MMO". lol Even ArenaNet isn't daft enough to try that.
I'm trying to imply that people DO consider it an MMO. People believe it is an MMO albeit one with different mechanics not seen in the MMO-verse. Anet may not call it that but this doesn't stop people from assuming it is.

Been playing since MUD days, just started visiting these forums not too long ago, have to say these forums are worse than most.
I'm listening, I'm only not regarding it all as advice or wisdom. Besides the fact that I didn't consider you a madman, but if you feel inclined, just tell me where I should send the men in white to, consider them a delivery service from me, they'll have a nice jacket for you with long sleeves, no thanks needed, it's a gift
(and nice one on the sneaky associative link btw, took me a 2nd time of reading it before I saw it )
I thought I'd inject a little humor into this topic, because most people here seem to think humor comes from pointing and laughing at other games while feeling smug about your own. Can't we all get along? We should start singing Kumbaya.

Ok,
I dislike how Anet is trying to pass of GW2 as the second coming when all it is is just an MMO with great animations and a dodge button.

Of course it's not just GW2 fans who troll the SWTOR board, there are quite a few though. Then again with this site it shouldn't be a surprise. I like both games,... not equally though, SWTOR holds more weight because I've had a better experience with Bioware than I have with Anet, the setting really does it for me because fantasy has been done to death, and the list can literally go on.
But how is GW2 going to "beat" SWTOR? Its a completely subjective claim at this point, seeing as how a game like WoW most probably could be considered to have "beat" every other MMO out there, but it certainly failed to keep me entertained for any extended period of time.
I think too many people are underestimating what BioWare has created because they get swept up in the hype of what GW2 says, but Anet is notorious for building hype using buzz words and the love to reclassify what they are specifically so that they aren't in any competition. They aren't going for the WoW crowd, nor are they basing anything they do off of sustained players.
Their major accomplishment with GW1 was selling 6 - 7 million boxes..... from all releases combined. That would be the relative equivelant to the ME series selling the same amount of boxes across ME1, 2 and now 3. (including DLCs as MTs if you want).
In the same sense of the payment model BioWare has been infinitely more successful in this aspect using the same pricing model. TOR is going for a subscription market. In this sense, even a mediocre success in the wake of WoW would be a major accomplishment seeing as just about every other "contender" has gone to the "free with MT" - or -" the Freemium" route.

Heck just look at some of the topics on the SWTOR forum and you can tell a difference.
I dislike how Anet is trying to pass of GW2 as the second coming when all it is is just an MMO with great animations and a dodge button.
OH you are a clever one aren't you! Go find me a quote where ANet says there game is the best thing that has ever happen to gaming and is the second coming. I will wait right here……….Well have you found it yet?
Maybe that is how you see it, but I have never seen ANet say that. In fact I have only ever seen them say they are trying to make the best game they possibly can. They have also said they are trying to make a game for people that are looking for something different than the normal MMO. See nowhere in there the second coming.
So let’s try this again, can any TOR fan come up with an intelligent constructive criticism or is it all going to be my game is better than yours because I say so.
Just play both? Most people dont subscribe to more than one game... and considering GW2 has no sub, people will play both.
Not that simple my friend, not that simple. ANet gave an example about this. Something along being married and divorced. Maybe someone can help me out here. But think about it: Why should I pay $15 when I already have enough entertainment to kill 3 hours that I have free? I would not.

That's the problem.. GW2 will only offer you 3 hours, but you'll need SWTOR for the hundreds of hours you're seeking.

I don't think Bioware has enough money for hundreds of hours of cutscenes and voiceovers. Just sayin'

Wait, is this a challenge?
Should I look up constructive criticisms that other people said or can I voice my own? And what will be considered 'constructive criticism' btw?

The particle effects are out of control, water combat looks just like land combat but people on the GW2 almost had a baby over it, some of the Norn models necks look weirdly attached to the shoulders, the whole fight to survive thing seems like a silly game mechanic. The fact that all the races get along and you fight with other servers for your pvp, wait we get along on our world but look at them over there they look like thus but they must be evil us from an alternate reality, I can tell they have the evil mustaches and beards, so kill em.

Egh.
Now I just have to get into a GW2 beta and then I can really compare both games.
Take the implications how you will.
Be jelly. Be very jelly.
.. But in a good way.
That's the problem.. GW2 will only offer you 3 hours, but you'll need SWTOR for the hundreds of hours you're seeking.
I don't think Bioware has enough money for hundreds of hours of cutscenes and voiceovers. Just sayin'
.. But in a good way.
Wait, is this a challenge?
Should I look up constructive criticisms that other people said or can I voice my own? And what will be considered 'constructive criticism' btw?
Examples of it would be nice.

In Bioware we trust!
