Haven't been following the game since a bit before LL revamps (where they removed all landscape group quests from Lone Lands..really did make it true to its name). I know there's been a lot of updates to the game since then, how has the general direction been? More and more solo play focused I bet?

I read these posts all the time.. But in all honesty, if you need to be forced to group then yes its terribly nerfed.
If you enjoy socializing and making a name for yourself , helping and getting help.. Actually being part of the community then no, there is group content every single step of the game
Group content has been made optional, not removed. If you do not find players to group with the problem lies with your fellow players and turbine only adapted to it. Forced grouping during progression is generally considered a no-no these days.
Actually, other than the LL revamp, pretty much all the new content since F2P has been for groups - raids and instances, mostly (Enedwaith is most solo, I guess, the only new land area we've gotten, save a tiny bit in Evendim, expanding the hobbit area)
And while LL was revamped to be solo friendly, the North Downs was not, and it covers the same level range.
Even the 2 new skirmishes they added are pretty hard to do solo. I tried one and got stomped on the first counterattack.
(That said, they did make Moria more soloable, the Books, at least in theory, and converted some of the group story instances into skirmishes)
R.I.P. City of Heroes and my 17 characters there
THIS exactly!
Of the past 100 nights I've played, I've been grouped a minimum of 98 of those nights to help someone, get help or just complete something. Grouping is terribly simple --> /invte <toon name>
Grouping to do solo content does not make that content group content. It is still solo content.
The OP was asking about the content, not about grouping beeing hard or not.
Grouping needs level matching.
When I enter a fellowship, there's always someone a bit higher than the rest of us. That sometimes makes us look rather useless in battle. I would love to see a mandatory level match.
