I would spend big bucks on store items if they would just go F2P, the way I did with LOTRO and AoC...

Feels weird saying F2P in the same sentence with "big bucks"...LOL

The problem is that LOTRO works fine as freemium because it is a PvE game.

AoC is really a PvE game as well even if it have PvP. If WAR went F2P or Freemium it would become a pay2win game and it just wouldn't work out.

As I see it is the only good way to save WAR to telease a expansion and at the same time change it into B2P with a itemshop selling fluff and possibly some XP pots. But that would cost money that I think EA wont put into the game.

WAR as F2P or freemium would be a bigger disaster than it is a P2P.

The simple free to play is a massive xp boost. If they boosted all forms of xp for pay accounts I'd pay to come back, and every time i rolled a new toon pay for that toon's leveling. 50-100% would get my money, I remember liking this game because of collision detection, and I wanted to go back to it, but read its a dead game on these forums and that deterred me from a pvp game. as far as leveling goes, if i remember correctly they'd still get a lot of money outta me because i'd be paying for all those levels you get from pvp when you hit level 40. i think i remember it being like 80 ranks or levels that were essentially pvp levels. i could be totally wrong though.

just read your post in detail and saw you mention xp pots. thats okay, but it doesn't cover the hours when no ones on and i wanna just solo level, since group xp and pvp xp was way faster in that game if i remember. i'd always feel like i can't consume one because its just gonna be a waste of money when i'm trying to level solo. paying upfront for the service always feels more comfortable.

also, you can sell stuff that'd make crafting easier in some way? i remember there being time durations to some of the crafting features (planting seeds i think?), anything that doesn't directly affect pvp is probably safe to boost with player cash.

AoC pvp is kinda fucked I hear because they made it a buy2win game with the selling of the highest ranked pvp gear.

The game isn't nearly as dead as people like to think it is. T4 and T1 pretty much have fighting 90% of the time on US servers, and T2 and T3 have them about 50% of the time. Mostly during afternoon/evening/weekends for t2/t3. But it's still there.

You had me toying with the notion that I should come back, but then as I re-read 't4 and t1 pretty much having fighting 90% of the time' I realised that could include just the battleground pvp and not the outdoor pvp that made for a lotta fun. If that wasn't what you meant, but you were actually talking about keep siege that'd be a different story.

Nah he means open RvR too. T1 oRvR is tedious tbh and ends up (during peak time) simply being a warband or two on each side just fighting at the entrance to one anothers warcamps. T4 usually has a good few warbands full of people fighting across and locking the various zones in order to seige the opposite sides city + plenty of Scenarios (BG's) popping. T2 & 3 is just plain open RvR but for most of the day only consists of capping empty zones or against very little resistance.

Even though WAR may not go F2P there maybe some link in when Bioware/EA launch their Star Wars game.

Perhaps along the lines of - pay $10 for Starwars and $12 for StarWars and WAR. Of course I am speculating, but recently we had to change our WAR account details to a more generic Bioware type account, hence my speculation.

With regards to Population in T2 and T3, I have many alts at this level of the game and regularly find RvR action in thenm with up to 40 vs 40, which is more then enough to enjoy the game.

If they go PM2P (pay me to play) I'm all over this game.

@vulture ,you mean like sony syation access.
Whether game will go f2p or not I think will finally depends how the new warhammer game will impace this game.
If gw2 is still not out when I hit 55 with aion, i'll come back and give this game another go.
    For Choppa!!!

If anything there are more oRVR than bgs popping. I wasn't toying with you there. I didn't even touch scenarios in t2/t3

There is usually at least something going on in t2 and t3, but there isn't always "fighting" like there usually is in t4 was more what I was going for.

Pretty much this. T2/3 have action, but it's usually only during prime time unless you get lucky. There is always usually at least someone capping stuff though. Doing t1 orvr can be a little tedious though, because since t1 is free, some people twink all to hell just for those levels (which is stupid since there is so much more game). There are some people that just have tons of potions and some twinked gear from higher level zones, but those are only one in about 50, so it's not too bad. I'd rather do bgs in  t1 90% of the time though.

Your post has me toying with coming back to the game now much more seriously. Also the fact that some people came on to back you up has really added some weight.

I see people go into bgs while in orvr warbands every now and then in t2/t3, but I wouldn't say bgs happen all the time. From what I've been able to see, there is ALWAYS something going on in t2/t3. Whether or not it's real fighting, there is always at least a group or so running about capping points and banging on doors. I've also had tons of fighting going on late into the night on weeknights (central time). Like up till 3-4am, and still going after that. I haven't played enough to see if that's the norm, but it happens often enough to keep me entertained.

Also, when your side has less people in the orvr lake, you get a buff called Against All Odds (People refer to it as AAO in game). Bascially, you receive more exp/renown/rvr influence when killing/capping/getting rcs(resource collector's) since you are outnumbered. I've also seen enemy warbands with less people beat us back just due to organization and a good mix of classes. We only had 3 healers in our full 24 person warband, they had about 3/4ths a warband, but more healers, and a good mix of tanks/melee dps/ranged dps, they were able to beat us back many times.

I'm not going to say it's the best game around, but it's the most fun I've had in an MMO for a while, but I doubt it'll keep my attention after GW2 comes out. I feel this more as something to hold me over until Space Marine/GW2.

Also, unless you've resubbed the last few months, you might be able to re-activate your account for 7 days for free (I think it was 7 days, maybe it was 14. My sub starts on the 1st, and I started playing again a week or so ago).

    Alright, alright, you've got me!

Nah, yea i just set up a trial account (it looks like i've lost my old toons 'cause i never did any sort of switching whenever the servers got cut back), but yea I'll give myself 3 days with the trial, and if I'm still messing around with it I'll cough up the $15.

I'm in for Space Marine too, sitting on a preorder, and can't wait to play it (I'm not touching the demo)!

You should still be able to transfer characters, but you probably have to have an active account. I had all my destro on old servers (I was lucky with order and had then all on badlands already), and I was still able to xfer my characters once I activated the free 7 or 14 days for returning. Unless maybe they actually deleted characters on really old serveres, but idk >_<.

Edit- totally didn't register that the next post was you as well D=. That's awesome you were able to find your old characters, I would have been a little on the unhappy side if my two t4 destro chars were gone >_<

Is this the big announcement then?? Cos as I understand it this has no bearing on the actualy WAR game as it stands, it is a seperate game......

    Warhammer Online: Wrath of Heroes

This fall, BioWare Mythic will launch Warhammer Online: Wrath of Heroes, a free-to-play variant of the scenario combat found in the studio's massively multiplayer online role-playing game. ...........................

TOR PvP is shaping up to be very much like that of WAR meaning that a lot of the players will just move over to there, a game that will actually be supported and developed. I can't really see many staying in WAR other than those who absolutely love the IP tbh.

Most fans of the IP left ages ago. The friends I have that still play say it is because they like the casual PvP. I know a lot of Warhammer fans, I am rather found of it myself but I found very little of the tabletop or the RPG game in WAR.

I am not sure that TOR will have the same thing there, if it will and those people actually would move it would mean closing time. No F2P would work then.

Or possibly just flip the switch if investment versus return doesn't look promising.  Not hoping for it, just an observation.  Then again DAOC is still running after all these years.

Ah, I see. If they can do the ORVR better, than I would probably switch too.
