I know this has prob been asked before - but why is World of Tanks listed as an MMO?

... and why arent games such as Battlefield 2 and 2142 etc etc etc listed?
WOT doesnt have a persisten world. It has a lobby system, just like bf2142 etc. The maps are reset after every game. If there is some special "ropleplay" aspect to WOT that you wont find in other similar games, please enlighten me

Probably has to do with the clan wars in which you can conquer territory that you keep until you lose it to an attacker. Beside that nothing I can think of that would somehow qualify it.
Because World of Tanks is an Massive Multiplayer Online game. With tanks. Those ratings it's displaying on it's homepage probably helped. Someone also paid someone a load of money and my personal favorite, "Why Not?".
It's also one of the mysteries of the universe. Pick your favorite.
Cause the MMO world is getting boring and it just happened to be decent enough to be featured on here.

Its not a MMORPG. its a MMO. A MMO does not mean its a MMORPG.
A LOT of the games on that list simply need to be removed, but I think it has been years since anyones done any sort of cleanup on it. And ya, someone might have greesed someones palms to get 'extra advertising' out there
I like Roleplaying a tank
Its has stats for the crew, it has upgrades, different tanks play different roles.. I play a Luchs or a Leo, makes me a scout

You think theres a difference between playing a light or a heavy in WoT and playing a tank or a rogue in wow? Light tanks scout and go for arty (weak targets)
So we dont shout "Mien Got.... A Tiger" big deal, who Role Plays in MMORPG's anyway these days.

To be honest I'd welcome alot of so-called "co-op" games onto this site because of them having a focus on team play. Oddly enough, these co-op games seem to have more team play than our mmorpgs... :

Now to answer your question... WoT is an MMOG... 4 letters out of 6 is not bad =P
Thats because they are completely instanced. Unlike a MMO, which has SOME Instances at times for group play.
MMO with some Instanced group dungeons, vs a game that is completely a group instance.

How is WOT an MMO? It does not have any persistancy at all? That is, if you dont count leader boards etc.
Most companies can't afford to make the traditional mmorpg any longer. As such, the definition of what a mmorpg is keeps changing. Why spend $50million to $100 million on a traditional MMORPG when you can send less than $10 million and have the same 100,000 subscribers supporting you via the item mall in a P2W fancy chatroom game. Activision is expecting CoD to generate more for them than WoW does with it's item mall. So expect it to be here on the list soon.

Well, usually those games are categorized as FPS. Like they are here http://www.fpsguru.com/. While WoT is not. Of course, It just depends on your definitions of the terms.
Well its an mmog and they even created a new column on this website for these types of co-op games. That column got heated the other day as a lot of folks were questioning why we even needed a column for co-op shooters on this site. You Can view it yourself under the column writers are.
I agree with you this should not be listed on this site but on the rts site.
However it is an ok game. Sometimes it is fun to pvp, but I still prefer team fortress.

We don't only list MMORPGs here at MMORPG.com. MMOFPS games, MMORTS games, etc are all valid. We also list MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arenas) that feature MMO-like qualities, such as League of Legends. As time rolls on the term MMO and what it defines has become looser and we cover these games in addition to core traditional MMORPGs.
It also is not true that it's been years since we've "cleaned" it up. I've personally revamped the entire list from top to bottom within the past two years and we have people dedicated to keeping the game list up to date with the latest games as it is a very high priority feature for us. And yes, I realize there are going to be some games that are out of date in some form or manner on our list, but we hope you'll help point those out to us so we can address them sooner rather than later.
Also, the implication that anyone has greased anyone's palms to get anything here at the site, including a listing on our game list is simply offensive and is really not appreciated. We're open to criticism but let's keep it constructive and put down the tinfoil hats.
