Tempted just to bunk down until SWTOR and play 1P and LAN until then, have been looking for months for a game that I'll enjoy and be able to get the other half interested in.
-She wants to play WoW but I wont let her. Think of her as generic gamer.
-I want to play EVE but the servers wont let me on since Incarna. Played Wurm and other sandboxxy games in the past, so think of me as a sandboxer/themeparker who loves the gather/craft aspect of games.
Have tried:
-Istaria,
-Wurm,
-Perpetuum,
-Mortal Online
-Dofus,
All of the above either don't pique her interest or are too high spec for her laptop (piece of junk Toshiba with like 1gb integrated RAM).
I know it's not an easy list of constraints to confine oneself to, but forsrs I've spent weeks now looking for something that fits all of these, so any help at all would be appreciated.
"Take my love, take my land,
Take me where I cannot stand.
I don't care, I'm still free,
You can't take the sky from me.
Take me out to the black,
Tell them I ain't comin' back.
Burn the land and boil the sea,
You can't take the sky from me.
There's no place I can be,
Since I found Serenity.
But you can't take the sky from me... "

I know it sucks, mostly because these things come out so slowly, and if you don't like the ones your seeing for release soon you end up waiting another 2-3 years for something different. Its best to just play something, and not watch mmorpg news in my (hypocritical) opinion. Watching makes the wait longer. I've been trying to give Aion another fair chance, but some things about that game always just get to me. So, I guess just more BC2, and maybe a good RTS. Or, I could just go dig a hole.

Chances are, you won't like SWTOR either.
Maybe it's time to develop an outdoor hobby. Lots of my online friends are moving towards it too, due to similar "mmo jaded-ness" that invaded our times in the last few years.
Eden Eternal.
Going out on a whim here. But I just about tried everything there is try. I enjoy similar games. The ones you listed lack the polish thats required to keep me entertained long enough. I was a huge advocate of SWG pre-cu so I like similar games.
Don't try Xsyon... Lots of potential but lazy devs.... Seemed great for about two weeks... and it wont run on the rig you mentioned.
Earthrise was another broken promise. I haven't tried it since the "Glory Patch" but I doubt its ready. But again it will not run on the rig you mentioned.
Try Ultima Online. Its pretty Sandboxy and relatively newbie friendly nowadays. Fun to play also, allot of different options. I played for a long while back in the day and I tried it relatively recently and it certainly maintains its polish and fun factor. You just have to deal with the graphics which I like the style. This will run on the rig you mentioned.
If that doesn't fit I'd say pick up a non-sandbox for a while and play that.
Age of Conan is free now and seems to play pretty nicely. Most likely wont run on the rig though.
Currently your best bet is to 1: Buy a new PC to play on. 2: Wait for the next great game to surface.... I hope its Archeage personnally but I will be playing GW:2
SW:TOR looks worse everyday so... just a warning here Do not get your hopes up...
I hope I was helpful.
Currently to satiate my "Lost game syndrome" I play World of tanks as a pick up and play. Great thing is its fun and free. All the BS that people say where one tank is better than the other blah blah blah is just that, BS. Its a well polished game and it does the job for a quick fix. The problem here is its not an MMO at all.
Currently playing : World of Tanks, LoL
Waiting for: The game of my dreams
Played: Everything
Favorites being Eve, UO and SWG Pre-CU
I do know how you feel . My other half plays WoW because its pretty much the only thing her computer can handle . I guess you would call her a generic gamer but even shes falling out of love with WoW . I did try her to give Lotro a try but it would'nt work on her ccomputer for some reason or other so shes now trying Forsaken World with me which seams to be OK . Quite frankly though theres very few decent mmos now and just playing various free to play games on a casual basis is proberbly the best bet because I can't think of one current mmo thats worth a subscription . The genres really going down hill fast and it does'nt look like theres going to be any innovation any time soon .
