I have been playing this game for over a month now. When i started playing is was nothing to get on just about any time of the day and have 18 to 25k people playing.
Now over the last week or so, you will be lucky to have 12 to 14 k on during the good hours and around 9 to 7 k at night. That is a major drop in pop for a game that has not been out that long.
One of the main problems with this game, and from what alot of the players are saying is that, " with the borken matchmaking system that they have the population will keep going down till they fix it." Lets hope they fix this soon.

I remember numbers around 9-10k at EST evenings a couple of months ago. Now it's slightly higher. So I don't see any drop. Waiting times are still non-existent.
However, I did get into a few weird matches with my PII and VK4502, with something like 4-5 ppl on each side. Perhaps not enough high-level players yet.
AFAIK, no changes are planned for the MM. To my taste it's fine as it is now.
Games like this will always have a surge in population at release then settle down to something more reasonable. During the beta which was pretty much open to everyone 5 - 12k was the norm so im not really surprised it's settle on numbers around there.
It's also -at least for me- not a long term game, 6 months or so of the beta was about as much as i could handle as once you had all the top tier tanks you wanted there really wasn't a whole to the game. Roll on BF3.
There is one thing you need to bear in mind. The two sets of numbers at the top doesn't acuratly reflect the actual number of people online. The number of tanks is the one you want to do the math with since the one with the people is the number of tank crew members. So when they say that they had a total of 20k accounts online during the beta, that number is actually false.
right now (20:25 uk time)
eu server 37k logged in, 855 battles
rus server 128k, 3100 battles
pop drop? Yeah, no.
I highly doubt that. First number is players online, second is battles. Multiply battles by 30 and you'll get a number reconcilable with the number of players.
