HoM and doing storylines first

that is the suggestion of the GWWiki. however, they suggest doing the campaigns in reverse order starting with EotN.

would anyone care to comment as to why this is? and how would you start a character in EotN anyways? i just got my dervish access the other day and there is no option to create a character in EotN.

oh and  here's the link:

Doing nightfall first will allow you to get your heroes quickly, it also has a very well done tutorial. Factions, however is also often recommended as a good place to start since it is the shortest of the three campaigns and you can still head on over to nightfall or EotN to get get some heroes and then come back.

EotN is not a campaign, it is an actual expansion in the sense that you have to have have one of the other 3 to get it and you cannot start in EotN. But you also don't have to finish any of the 3 campaigns to head into EotN. If you really want to.

You should also keep in mind that some of the classes can only be started from certain campaigns. If you want to play a paragon or dervish you will need to start in Nightfall and if you want to run an assassin or a ritualist you will have to start in Factions. Also, even with the classes that are in every campaign, the characters will not look the same. They are humans from different continents so basically they are different human races. If you want your Warrior to look a certain way then that might effect your choice of campaign.

I think what they are saying is that you should do all the campaigns without worrying to much about getting HoM points just to get the unlocks and rewards that will ultimately help you play the rest of the game. as you go though campaigns you will unlock skills and elite skills, get rewards and in nightfall and EotN you will get heroes. All this will help you out. It is a little less clear if they are actually suggesting that you skip over to EotN and finish that first but that is not a bad idea. it is maybe a little harder to do since it originally assumed that you had done at least one of the other campaigns but the advantage is that you get heroes that are already leveled up to 20 and the rewards are a bit better. But I don't think you will loose much if you stay in nightfall if that is what you are enjoying. Maybe go to EotN to get your first 3 heroes there. They are very fast and easy to pick up.

    All die, so die well.

thanks for the info and clarification!

i'm running several characters right now in different campaigns, except EotN, so that's why i was wondering. i'm regretting my secondary prof choice for my dervish though, i picked warrior, and i think i would have done better with necro focusing on blood magic. /shrug supposedly i'll get a quest further down the line that will let me unlock other secondary classes on my dervish, so i spose i'll wait for that.

the advantage for me of having 2 characters per campaign is that as i learn or screw up on the first one, i can make the alterations necessary for the second character, to get it done right.

Well, EoTN and Nightfall are the two best in terms of variety and polish, in my opinion, and they give you the access to the most heroes.  Heroes make it a LOT easier to solo than mere henchmen.

Also, the whole reason to do EoTN first is that EoTN is the place HoM is actually located, and by finishing EoTN you can open up all the parts of the HoM with those tapestries, which will make it a little easier to see just how well you're progressing along in advancing it. :)

I believe it has been suggested first, but starting with Factions and completing enough content to access Kaineng City is a good idea. You should be around level 15 - 17 at this point and have access to a large amount of skills. At this point, you can choose to do EoTN (which has a requirement of level 10) and then return to the other campaigns. For Nightfall, you will want your heroes leveled and have access to a great amount of skills. I personally recommend having a large of amount of Necromancer, Mesmer, Ritualist and Monk skills unlocked as I feel these are the most valuable heroes. (N/Rt is usually a healer, Mesmer are interupts, damage and shutdown, Monks are smiters and healers, Rits are spirit spammers)

If you are concerned about having skills to use on your heroes, create 3 prophecies characters and do the quests to unlock the maximum amount. Also be aware that you can unlock skills using hero points or you can purchase them.

    I hope this helps.
