The gender locking is because of the multi path storyline , it would be a hiffy fit if the princess saving part ( warrior/cleric ) was done by a women .... you'd have every anti-homosexual gay asking for an american ban of dragon nest ...
You can't have everything in life , gender locking enabled a dual story mode for both gender something i tougth would be a great addition to the usual " insert name here" storyline.
not to bash your post but as a sorceress lvl 23 you have access to about 16 spell tha you can macro and never have to ever click on either of the mouse button , it is actually useless to auto attack as a sorc , so if you love combination of CC and high damage output without using auto attack i suggest trying a sorceress.
My issue has been gold spammers. ONE after ANOTHER. Ive tried everything to block them. Someone told me some weird way, and it didnt work.
If Nexxon cant give me RT click on their name and hit block, then I cant play their game. Ive never experienced a game like this. How else can you chat and find groups?
To the caterpillar it is the end of the world, to the master, it is a butterfly.
I am having a great time with this game atm.. Im playing ont he NA version I have two max lvl chars now and the game is tons of fun. High paced action great affects and has a very d2 inspired loot type system which I really dig. I enjoy doing mf runs etc but I cant wait for the lvl 32 cap increase and pvp. I dont know how pvp will be but with the style of the game I expect it is going to be a lot of fun if you havent tried this game yet I would say go try it its free and you may love it like me or you may hate it and of wasted downloading time but hey you probaly needed a game to try :P
It's a very great game, very fun to play with nice combat. My main issue with the game however is the lack of content (which admittedly is to be expected but still) and the overall difficulty of the game. I feel that being able to solo everything on the highest difficulty is a bit annoying at times, although admittedly, the Lv.24 dungeon Minotaur's Nest is pretty brutal.
I think the issue with many gamers who disliked Dragon Nest (or Vindictus) is that they enter without really looking into the game and expect an open-world MMORPG and whatnot. Dragon Nest is not one of those, neither is Vindictus or Dungeon Fighter for that matter. It's a very basic dungeon-crawler where you have a town, and move to dungeons from there.
There are also players who expect to be RP'ing themselves, but Dragon Nest is closer to RPGs where you basically have a few choices in terms of classes and whatnot but overall you're restricted to that "main character" which often happens to be a male in average RPGs, and that's because Dragon Nest integrates the characters more into their storyline than a normal MMORPG, and by that I mean that by selecting the Sorceress for exemple, you are inherently RP'ing as that bad average mage that the Sorceresses tends to belittle but turns out you're better than they thought you were. Or the Cleric confused by the events around him and questionning his faith and destiny. Or the swordman, the son of one of the best swordman in the world, etc.
Without knowing all of these, it can be difficulty to enter and enjoy Dragon Nest because you have to take a step back from the average MMORPG mentality and take Dragon Nest for what it is. By then, if it's still not for you then so be it.
I WANT TO PLAY. iT SEEMS SO FUN. iTS THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM EVERYONE IS IGNORING
gold spammers and the impossible to find, to involved block button. Why not just come to my house and keep ringing my doorbell while calling me on the phone?
you know what? Id have an easier time getting rid of you than I do getting rid of gold spammers in dragons nest
To the caterpillar it is the end of the world, to the master, it is a butterfly.
I have really been enjoying this game. I have a cap lvl 24 mystic right now and the game is fun until you hit cap. There is nothing to do currently in the open beta other than mindlessly grind so I have stopped playing until they add PvP and a higher level cap. Dragon nest offers a nice mmo yet almost diablo-ish grinding for item drops. Lots of quests and other things. It is very fun to get a few friends on skype and kill goblins. They just need to add content faster. There is a lack of anything to do end game...Basically think WoW with just 1 5-man heroic at level cap. They really need to add PvP to the game. I hope once open beta is over we get these features.
Nexon the NA licencer isn't the best . Gold farmers are spamming constantly, the economy is very poor because of how nexon made Abyss difficulty drops so rare but the game still has me wanting to play it.
Overall I give Dragon Nest a 8/10 so far. However I would give Nexon a 2/10. They literally just let people QQ on the forums on the weekends. You get nothing from them like Riot Games or others.
This game and League of Legends is where I currently spend most of my gaming time.
I dont know, my problem is ether my Antivirus or Nexion's use of "hackshield" I can seem to stay connected in this game longer then 3 minutes..... so not worth the effort of crawling through forums for a solution because I get no response from "Support" and if they are not going to make it easy for me to play their games then no sense in trying to play them. If you look at their forums you will see none too few posts about this and as much as I like gaming ANY game that tells me to turn my antivuris off to play is a NO NO in my book.
The lack of good character customization and gender-locked classes is enough of a turn off that I will likely never try this game.
This is how I feel, I really dont like gender locked classes.
Here is my cross post from the forums:
Gender Lock?! Wtf is gender lock?!
These gender arguments either are coming from under developed children or gender insecure people. I don't think many realize how superficial gender is when playing a character. It is not a sign of laziness from a developer either. Games should not be expected to always provide some sort of customization at all and should not be associated with laziness. That's the most un-intellectual statement one can make.
"I'm not playing (insert game) because i couldn't have (insert feature) for my character"
"im not playing World of warcraft because I couldn't have yellow eyes for my character" - sounds unreasonable to me.
"Im not playing (insert game) because I couldn't have a taller height for my character. I only play tall characters because i'm insecure about playing as a short character."
You don't play any given game or mmorpg and classify it as lazy if the developer doesn't offer a specific race or gender for particular class. It may be as much of an artistic or lore decision. Even if it was to reduce or cut corners why would you want a full set of custom features at the expense of my important gameplay mechanics.
Anyway Dragon Nest is an incredible a game an doesn't play like any other. It's extremely polished and has an amazing story with actual depth woven into its questing. The style of art may be a turn off for some however, I would assure you that if you are into twitch/action mechanics then dragon nest's gameplay makes up for it. The animation and in game scenes has to be of the best I have seen in an mmorpg. Extremely immersive and convincing. I mean the cut scenes and story does not seem to be held back by the technical limits of the games engine. Additionally each class plays very differently from the other adding for a higher than usual replayability.
There are some cons. The instancing (which i dont mind at all) dissected into very small segments. There is generally a lot of loading within each dungeon sometime causing you to wait on certain party members. I have no opinion at the moment on the cash shop. Grouping up for dungeon runs appears like it could have been done a bit better. I have an easier time finding PUG(pick up groups) in vindictus for example.
TL;DR: Worth the try to see if you like it, and Get over your gender insecurities in video games.
To all you people that complain about gender lock, Go back and play your boring ass click & sit generic grindfests.
Your missing the big point. THE GAMEPLAY IS WHAT MAKES A GAME GOOD. Any game critic would know that. GFX & CUSTOMIZATION are lower on the totem pole. Whats the point of having good customization and GFX if the game play is boring and redundant.
This game is wonderful, i love the style. If this game isent your style i understand even if you dont like the GFX, but something like gender lock is so small you shouldn't worry (Unless your insecure).
EDIT: Your next column should include the (anticipated) PvP. That is the major selling point of the game in my opinion.
The PvP was not added yet, although the infrastructure is there. However, the PvP will be added later this week as stated by Alteris (Dragon Nest's Community Manager).
DN is right there with League of Legends for me now in that they both provide an extremely fun 20-40 minute experience when I have a bit of time to kill. DN is a great game to casually play. The "grind" for crafting items to upgrade your blue or orange set of gear at level cap (currently 24) can take a while, but I wouldn't quite call it a grind as it's consistently fun to log on and run two quick dungeons, each of which can be completed in 10-15 minutes.
The 4 difficulty settings seem quite balanced as well. At various points throughout the leveling process, the difficulties are cranked up a notch. But just then, your character also tends to become significantly more powerful. So as long as you keep your gear upgraded and up to date, you can always take on the next challenge at the highest difficulty. However, at any point after level 15 if you run an Abyss with 4 players, it's an effortless slaughterfest. 2-manning Abysses at this level seems to be a perfect difficulty range. All current Abyss dungeons become easily soloable at by level 22 (at least as a Mystic or Priest, the only 2 classes I've played,) although the last boss in Prayer's Retreat will still usually kill my Mystic at least once
It's also worth noting that up until you raid a Nest, any group comp works perfectly well.
What about this MMO and Eden Eternal and/or other anime-like MMOs? A good comparison can be appreciated.
That would be comparing Apples and Oranges. Dragon Nest is an action game, no tab-targetting/point&click, you hit because you aimed well, and you dodged because you succesfully avoided an attack manually, etc. It's closer to Vindictus. Eden Eternel is...a traditional tab-targetting point&click game where monsters stands still in front of you and there's no need to do anything else but press 1,2,3,4,1,2 and wait for the monster to die.
I come from Flyff>Jade Dynasty>Loong>Dragon Nest (waiting for Guild Wars2 and Blade n Soul) Currently playing League of Legends too. Im a female gamer... yes i understand about the gender lock but come on guys this game Dragon Nest is fun at least for now and the story is funny mades me LOL!
We all have different likes and dislikes. I like it, and many others like it, so we play it. To those who don't like it, then it wouldn't really hurt us or the game if they don't play it. There's no need to argue or to try to inscribe your own opinion to other people.
A couple of friends play this game. Its an easy game to get into and the combat is really a lot of fun. I made the new Kali class. She uses Chakram's and her combat moves are like dancing . Really kind of sexy to watch her kick butt. But really the key to this game is its fun to play. Other games talk about true action combat. But most of them really suck at the way they implement it. This game really has it down. Lvl 7 now and at lvl 15 you get to specialize your class with a choice from two paths. The game was really a surprise for me. And its really fun playing with friends. Simply game that's fun to play. Nothing wrong with that for a change.

I can't get past the looks of this one to even bother. Also the videos make the gameplay lackluster.
So it has that "so cutesy it's annoying" look to it and the gameplay looks fairly boring. Gonna pass.
Dragon Nest is the best Free To Play mmo I have ever played. They just need to get rid of the gold spammers.

The cute will not fool me, I dont like cute in my games. Im not 12 years old anymore and I dont roleplay as children.
I'm a 26 year old male playing a 12 year old girl.
Meh.
Other MMOs these days are so mind numbingly boring that I don't care.
To the poster who said it was a maturity thing, you are absolutely correct.
To those complaining about gender-locked classes, grow up and play a game that is actually somewhat challenging and fun.
Actually don't. World chat is full of enough stupidity without you.
