Just re-subbed after 7 years

Wow, this game has changed.  I am totally lost.  I have a 43 healer and have no idea how to play him anymore.  Have a 32 tank, lost.

Guess I need to learn how to play all over again and start a toon from scratch, then ease into my higher leveled ones.

Any tips?

7 years? Guess you haven't played since the game came out then. If I were you I'd just reroll and start from scratch as there is so much new/different with the game since you played.

7 years, wow. Let's see, full rundown of all the feature updates is here: http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Issues

There's 9 new archetypes in addition to the original 5 heroes (5 villains, 2 epic heroes, 2 epic villains), bucketload of new zones (Rogue Isles, Praetoria if you bought Going Rogue), and a couple zone overhauls (Faultline, Hollows, Rikti Crash Site)

Enhancement Diversification has its own rant as does PvP if the latter is your thing, so if you're interested do a search on the official forums. The former, basically know that after 3 SOesque enhancements, the rest decay so badly it's not worth slotting for the same of a type (i.e. no more 6 slotting +recharge in Hasten, just put in 3 slots)

Healer I'm assuming you mean empath: due to how Issue 9 changed the game, heals aren't as vital after level 30 so focus on your buffing powers: Fortitude, Adrenaline Boost, the +regen+recov auras, Clear Mind etc

Tank, not sure what armor set you're using but browse the tank subsection of the forum for some sample guides if it'll help. There's also this handy tool called Mid's Hero Designer which can help plan characters and builds.

Stamina is also now inherent (though it only resets to apply to legacy characters if you respec) so pick up some more powers like Leadership if you like. Respecs, costume changes etc were also applied post-beta.

Good to see you back in time for the launch of Freedom.

Remember, it has to be fun to be a game. Grinding is a bedroom activity, and the point is definitely not to do my wife as fast as possible.

First and foremost, have fun! ( ' :

"healers?"  We don't have healers in CoX, but we have some toons that are capable of healing. Some folks might tease you about that, or if you claim some AT (most notably, defenders) are useless.  Fair warning ( ' :

Start brand new, if only so that you can raise INF with your new hero/villains as you level up.  Otherwise, I expect your exisitng toons will be too broke to afford enhancements and it will be an unsatisfying experience to play them.  Never mind the fact, that all of the ATs got additional inherent powers.

Scrappers are a good first class to learn the game with, some good action behind them.  Katana/Regen or Katana/WillPower in particular.  But, play what you think you will have fun with ( ' :

Hero-side, after coming out of the tutorial, ask for a sewer team -- you'll get up to level 5-8ish if you "street sweep" in the sewers, which is far better than running the low level contact missions (these low level missions are being updated for Freedom).  Then you'll run along to Kings Row, get a radio from a detective and eventually get sent to the Hollows (  ' :

Run through the tutorials -- even the ones at the university (to learn about missions) and mission architect.

Check out paragonwiki.com and the guides on the forums.

Don't let min/maxer's pursuit of numbers sway you from having fun ( ' :

Post on the forums, say hello on the help line in game, or jsut identify yourself as new -- people are pretty friendly and will help you out.

    Finally, and most importantly, have fun. ( '  ;

Thanks all for the great responses.  Tried to log in last night, but my 18 year old daughter walked in and asked to play.  There went the nite.

This was her favorite game back then when she was 11.  She picked it up as if she never quit.  It amazed me.  She made a scrapper.  Only took her close to hour to get her custume sexy enough to play.  Sheesh

Then she made level four in a blink of an eye.

Just do what you say... start a new character and learn from the ground up again.

They have added so much it's worth doing that anyhow.

The help channel (at least on my server) is also a great aid to getting up to speed.

Sorry about that, I meant a defender.  I used to heal quite a bit back then in groups.  Doesnt look like it is that too important now.  Right?

Were you playing post issue 5? If not, then yeah you missed A LOT. The game changed dramatically at issue 5 (May 2005?) then changed again at issue 11 and 12 (for the worse, pvp wise) but there are tons of things to do in the game now and it's going F2P soon and if you're a long time player you won't lose much.

Healers are still very much needed in task force/special force, keep that 43 for those times, you might have to respec it too.

I played my defender last nite for a few hours and someone helped me get to the area where there were Rikti's and picked up a quest.

Man, my toon was not made to solo, at all!  Luckily I could fly and get out of there.  Got rooted once.  Guwess I made him for groups only.  Very hard to solo in these higher levels.

Ohhh yeah... Breakfree inspirations are alway your friend, but on any AT without state defense like Defenders and Blasters, they are vital against the higher end mobs.

I just resubbed last week  after not playing for a few years, I too was a bit overwhelmed. So I just rolled a new toon and started playing,  I really  like the fact that you can  log into COH play a few missions and log out  you don't have to  plan  on  playing for  hours at a time unlike most MMO's.

Noble and true, you are the hero other heroes aspire to be. You are a natural leader, selfless and kind, who will put the lives of others above your own, and are steadfast in your pursuit of justice.
    Take the quiz!

You need to respec your defender, do some research first and find that HeroBuilder program, you want combat jumping in your defender build.
