"Ready for things to get more bananas? Let's say you're on a planet, shooting dudes with your space gun, and you need some assistance. Say, a series of high-powered laser beams from an orbital ship, just for example's sake. You could always ask your buddy who's sitting at his PC playing EVE Online to do just that by sending him the coordinates. And just like that, lasers rain from the sky, destroying that pesky tank that simply refused to stop firing missiles in your direction. That also happens in real-time via cross-platform chat.

Again, if I weren't watching the developers actually do this in front of me, I'd be reticent to point out how insanely impressive it was. But as the dev leading the demo progressed through the map, eventually taking the enemy ship and completing the contract, I found myself more and more shocked."

They did it!! IN REAL TIME..... AAARRGHHH!! imageimage

I is impressed.

This is not a game.

I have no intention of playing EVE or DUST 514, but holy cow is it a close thing.  This really is cool.  Everyone always talks about some groundbreaking new development in games, and I would say this is one, if it pans out.  I'm sure someone will point to a game thats done it before, but I still say its groundbreaking.

I dont' think there's ever been two games, of different genres, set in the same universe where players from each can interact with and affect the gameplay of players in the other, and do so in real time.

I'm fairly confident you could say Dust 514 and Eve will be the first.

I wasn't cut out for EVE, I'll admit it. Love the concept and respect the hell out of the game.

NOW I am a PS3 shooter fan. If my crew thinks it's good then I'll buy it just to be apart of something unique. Also to make sure they will be motivated to finish WoD during my life time.

I used to play MMOs like you, but then I took an arrow to the knee.

that's pretty much the best example of pure genius.

    absolute pure genius.

i just can't think of anything else to call it.

I would honestly plug myself into EVE and never leave if they ever merged the two completely. I would love nothing more than to fly around space, opt to land on some random planet and play a sci-fi shooter as I explore.

saddly the capsuleer story would not alow that...  CCP has slightly blocked them selfs by creating the Pod Pilot supper beeing...

I wonder if anyone has told CCP that on average console games have a shelf life of about 6 months.

Yeah for the life of me I can't figure out why didn't develop this for the PC so they could have some sort of long term point to it.

Yeah, that holds true for the Call of Duty, Killzone, and Halo crowd that they're trying to woo over with a persistent world mechanic.

If they have updates often enough and can keep the mechanics switched up I think there'd be a dedicated crowd out there for it.

CoD, Killzone, halo... from what i know (never played ether one, just got killzone 3 with my sharpshooter):

but i woul asume that after single player stuff is done all it is left multiplayer battle arenas...  with no reall point left and most achievments unlocked... players move on to next game...

i am a 2008 generation eve player, and from what i heard 2003 eve was horible... so i am sure 2012 Dust514 will only have few things to do, and will not be a block buster, but i am sure with iteration and mind breaking PVP fitting set ups... the game will prosper...

    Agreed.

EVE, PVP, and FPS are not my bag baby yeah....err I meant even though I dont like them, what CCP is doing is fricken cool. I dont know if it rates up there with mutated bass, and their laser beams, but damn if you dont gotta give CCP an A for effort. True innovation on their part.

Console games may have a  6 month lifespan, but what game can take its spot?  It will be pretty niche due to its nature and beign intertwined with another game.  I think the novelity of the game will pull people in, but I guess we'll see.

Ok that's downright cool. Seriously. Shame I suck at FPS. Not cut out for Eve either even though I love sci fi to bits. This is an actual original concept. You don't see many of those lately!

if they could ever pull something like this off for a "historically accurate" WWII simulator with navies and aircraft doing this,  I would pay a $1000 bucks for that game. I know World of tanks/planes/ships is promising this, but its still arcade reality.

But maybe I need to relook at this game. Never thought of trying it but must admit....the concept is pretty impressive.

Meh, whatever. I'll be impressed when they port it to PC, not before.

This but i`m thinking you could duo the games and help yourself(if you have an eve and dust)

EIther way i thought eve is a snooze fest and you have no real control BUT a shooter like dust would be super...

guys don't be butt hurt if you don't have a ps3, you can still go get one.  Once you relax on the couch playing games with a gamepad, you won't want to go back.

  • Southpaw.GamerSouthpaw.Gamer Member CommonPosts: 572

While I agree the average lifetime of a console game is relatively short you must realize that 95% + of the dedicated EVE playerbase will buy a PS3 just to play DUST 514.  It will have a dedicated crowd.  I just hope it works out in the end.

I love FPSs, love the idea, even own a PS3, and WANT to play it...but, I suck bad at console FPSs. I am pretty decent with a mouse and keyboard, but cannot play them on consoles for crap.

If recent news is correct, the game will allow mouse and keyboard play on the PS3
