Cinematic Action Camera in MMORPGS

Have you ever noticed how epic game play trailers tend to be?  Im not talking about cinematic trailers (those are fun too).  Im talking about the fun little gameplay trailers they make showing in game footage.  You can find examples of this all over the net.  From Swtor, to GW2, to just about everything.   Ever notice how the camera moves around in a way it never really does in an mmo?

Why not?

Then you see actual game play footage and of course it never really looks like that.   Camera is zoomed back from the avatar in the third person view, usually behind the avatar.   Its a good view of course.  Gives you a solid game experience and you can observe your surroundings easily and react to them.  Of course you can also usually zoom and move the camera around to your will.

Personally, I'd really enjoy a cinematic action camera that does its own thing, while also giving me at least a decent intuitive view of whats actually going on during combat especially.   The only thing I can think off to use as an example might be the Grand Theft Auto games.  Remember how you could activate the cinematic camera?  Made driving a bit difficult didnt it?  Well the auto camera was a little wild for one thing, I didnt think it was done particularly well due to the massive long over head distances it employed, and having the camera change around at will, while you're driving 120 mph can be a little disorienting.

That said, I think it'd look fantastic in an mmo.  Especially during combat.  Even out of combat it would look great.  Heck you could probably just stand on a mountain top, check out the view, hit that cinematic camera option and watch your view revolve around your character, and do its thing, giving you an epic movie quality vibe to your experience.

Hey its just an idea.  All Im saying is a I sure like those cinematic game play videos they put out, with the nice camera angles we never really get to experience while actually playing the game.   And while it was sure hard to manage while driving 120 mph, Im not sure it wouldnt be that bad if the camera were a little tighter, and if it were in an mmorpg.

I think, theoritically, it might work quite nicely.  But thats just my opinion.  Whats yours?

I think it could work out quite well. In fact, mmos on the horizon are already doing this (Blade & Soul and Phantasy Star Online 2) Im looking forward to checking them out

    Really?  I had no idea.

So they have an option to click on or whatever that suddenly makes your camera epic?  If so that alone would be enough to tempt me to check these titles out.  Fun stuff.   : )

i think its more automated for certain abilities. not sure if you can toggle it on or off. but the camera does some cool stuff during grappling moves and certain special moves n combos.
