To buy or not to buy

KrematoryKrematory Member UncommonPosts: 608

Ok, so now we can get Rift for 9,99€ (I think no game time is included). I've downloaded it, created a cleric and played it for a while. The game looks gorgeous, plays smooth and I realy like to level comining both quests and rifts.

Now find debating myself wheter to buy it or not, because I'm not sure if it will it keep my interest like this (I'm sure rifts will get old and boring one day or another). Is it worth it to buy it now that is cheaper?

Thx

Well try and simplify it. You pay like 9.99$ and I think that does come with game time. Out of that you get roughly 100 to 200 hours of gamplay. It goes far far past that number if you go to the raids and war fronts, but leveling if you quest and explore is easily 100 hours.

Depends on if you like the genre is the real question.

    reasons to buy it:

    1) 9.99 for 30 days of enjoyment. If you play it for 5 hours a week it would be $0.50/ hour. No brainer.

    2) 1 million players makes it the second biggest(but much smaller than WoW) p2p game in the west.

    3) Even if you are a HARDCORE player, you will most likely only have enough time to level cap one character in the first month. And that is if you are largely ignoring the world around you and just power-grinding content.

    reasons not to buy it:

    1) You could apply this 9.99 to newer games coming out like GW2, or SWTOR, etc

    2) You are sick of games that only make incremental changes from it's predesessors, like EQ-WoW-Rift-SWTOR etc.

It's up to you really, but there is a ton of content for your small investment imho.

If you like that type of game, which you obviously do from already having had fun in it then I'd say just go for it. At that price even if you reach end game by the time your 30 days is up and get bored then at least you'll have had a few weeks or a months worth of enjoyment out of it for half the price of a single hour and a half DVD.

I wasn't a fan just as i'm not a fan of similar games it's modeled on but from even the brief time I spent trying it at release it seemed like one of the better games of it's type out there.

Sounds like you should buy it. Even if you just play for 2 months it is still worth 10 bucks + monthly fees.

But start with 1 month of monthly fee and not 6 months like many others did, there were lots of people whining here after losing interest after a while.

It doesn't matter if you wont play it for years, a few months of fun is a few months of fun. :)

Thanks for your replies guys, I'll definitely buy it. I've been playing a bit more and I'm having a blast right now. I feel like I owe Trion some money for such a fun game :D

I Say buy it.I have read alot complaining that there is nothing to do after capping except raiding.I have been playing for 3 months.Level capped  my cleric after about 1 month.Have never touched a raid yet.( While planning too eventually) and still get lost on what to do , simply cuz there is so much to do at any given time. Most people who say there is nothing to do but raid are very closed minded.

There are different Events in every zone, every day. There are open world PvP events( as of 1.4) every day. There are open world raid events ( every day). There are Warfronts .There is a very good story with great Voice overs to get into .Crafting.Playing the market via AH. Guild quest and guild events.Dungeons of all levels.Raids, expert dungeons.Open world pvp quest. New Events and festivals dang near every month. A class system that you can literately spend hours on at any given time making new builds. In game puzzles to explore. Plus much more. Not to mention how great the game looks graphically. There is stuff to do Solo, small group, and large group  with tons of options absolutely 100% of the time.

They have a free week on right now; give it a try if you enjoy themepark MMOs like WoW.

While I don't really enjoy the game any more, levelling to 50 on my first character was pure fun.

    Give it a spin, IMO.

Yeah its worth buying if you dont expect the ultimate MMO of all time .

If you have burnt out on games like WOW then I would suggest not buying it and taking a break from MMO for a while.

I'd say go for it! At the moment they are doing a free play time for a few days and i can honestly say i'm having fun. I'm also thinking that i might subscribe to it too, depending on how much i enjoyed myself.

    This.

RIFT definetely deserves some time and money from every decent mmo player. Specially for the way TRION promoted the game and how well supported it at launch.I think they still do an excellent job. The thing is the whole game does not offer us anything fresh/new. I wonder what would TRION do with a fresh concept and a revolutionary mmo idea.....

If community is important to you... don't bother.

To be honest, it's one of the rudest and most infantile online gaming communities I've ever seen (and yes, I played WoW too).

If you just enjoy questing solo, the storylines are.... meh.  It's somewhat interesting, but really not all that great.

The PvP (especially in warfronts) is where you run into the nerd-raging infants who probably never had any real friends outside of a computer screen.

Yes Rift is full of kiddie gankers but on the upside you can shout at them as opposed to wow.

    PS; Rift needs fishing

    WOW,eq2,Vanguard,WAR,LOTRO,AOC,Rift Aion, SWTOR, TERA.

    Currently playing GW2.

It's worth the purchase far as I'm concerned.  I find it to be rather enjoyable.   They seem to be doing a great job at adding content and the game is a lot of fun.  Nothing groundbreaking mind you but an all around entertaining game.

    1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

    2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

    3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

I would just play it for the next couple of free days that it has left and if you play hard enough I believe you could come up with a decision, it's really nod bad if you're looking to just kill time and experiment with some cool mixed classes. I wouldn't buy though, actually I'm proud of myself for not purchasing it.

i bought a few days ago together with my GF and we find it quite fun : ) sure it is themepark and all but i find it to be one of the best among them (as far as i can tell at least :P)

Oh, my experiences with other players so far have been quite pleasant. I've joined several random groups and everyone was polite and helpful (people even thanks me when I heal them!). Sure, I'll end up meeting rude people, but they're just EVERYWHERE. I just click the "ignore" button and keep playing.

As far as pvp is concerned, I'm not very interested in it (although I rolled on a pvp server), so probably I won't come across those pvp kids you talk about that often :)

So far I'm having a good time in Telara, and I'm glad I found this game.
