I downloaded the demo. Come now,,yeah its no Halo, but come on,,, is it really that bad?
Yeah there were some issues with (IMO) the weapons, and yes I hate the health system. It recharges too slow, like a Halo 1 or something, and goes down way too easy. I would have liked something like Warhammer 40k's combat system for a Duke Nukem game. but maybe thats just me.

It gets boring once you enter... the hive (or whatever it's officially called) where there's no weapons to pick up anymore (just the two you took with you).
Besides that, the level designs are too "run straight path" type. The AI is pretty bad as well, and I think they pushed the obsession with breasts a little too much (though this is just opinion :P)
Overall though, I think it's all right. It just doesn't really do anything really good. Just... meh.
What ulimately killed it for me (as in, what caused me to no longer want to continue playing it) was it became too much "follow corridor to arena-type room; kill 3 waves; proceed to next corrider." I get bored of this level design.
I was never a fan of even the original Duke Nukem games, so I followed DNF's progress over the (many) years of its development and release with amusement. I think the general concensus is "meh."
TBH, I think that's great compared to the very troubled development history DNF had. The fact that it isn't an absolute bust is a credit to the developers who picked this up in the last minute to push it through for release. This title had "Titanic Disaster" written all over it, but it didn't sink.
They definitely didn't pull a "Daikatana"
"I have only two out of my company and 20 out of some other company. We need support, but it is almost suicide to try to get it here as we are swept by machine gun fire and a constant barrage is on us. I have no one on my left and only a few on my right. I will hold." (First Lieutenant Clifton B. Cates, US Marine Corps, Soissons, 19 July 1918)
Hah hah, Daikatana... yeah...
I enjoyed Duke Nukem Forever for what it was a Duke Nukem game, it played like a retro game which is exactly what I expected from it from the humor ,weapons, and content, never expected this game to be the second coming as most people expected over the years its just a game .
It's a Duke Nukem fps. If you don't like the Duke Nukem flavor it's just an average FPS game.
I admit, I havnt played a Duke game in years!!! since PS1 days. But wasnt he less cover like?

I actually bought Daikatana, sadly. I got bored in the first level and never looked back.
I liked DNF...... it still has the same humor from DN3D. I really liked driving the monster truck The kitchen scene was memorable for me...... being a small fry and all.
The gameplay was horrible...
I like the character of Duke but the game play was so bad that i didnt finish the demo.
Playing: Nothing
Looking forward to: Nothing
It annoyed the Hell out of me....I didn't even finish it.
Can't believe we waited all these years for that.
Yep the word "annoying" definately comes to mind when I think about this game. I was playing the witcher 2 at the same, so maybe it was the outstanding nature of that game that put me off nukem. At any rate, I found gameplay to be very clunky, this game was far too long in development to be actually anything more than a nostalgia trip. I did not finish this one, just literally quit mid level. One good thing I will say is that they definately nailed the nukem "atmosphere", they just made a crappy game.
The game is a joke.
It was nice to feel some duke nukem from the past but it doesn't worth it in general.
I wish i could play duke 3d with todays graphics and not with graphics of 2003.
Deus ex is superior compared to this fail.
I think the game was alright, and they did get the DNF atmosphere right. However I wish they went a bit further with the sexual themes in the game to be more graphic, but I have not finished the game since I have just started to play and I am slowly going through the content, so i might be in for a surprise.
So it is a good game, and I enjoyed it for its nostalgia value thus far.
I would like to add that they could have made certain parts more skill based, and therefore more challenging that involved driving and jumping. Yet I dont like to see the loading screen too much, so maybe devs who want to add skills based levels like Mario with jumping, or skills when it comes to driving could have a free run map. So that way I can practice the map continously without seeing a load screen. Just a personal preference.
Also it could have had body targeting and added more gore to the game. Headshots with exploding heads etc.
The combat is good. People seem too picky about the combat, and adding whatever other changes to an FPS wont make much of a difference, but of course would still be nice but someone like Duke does not peek around a corner . I guess the people who dont like DNF also dont like FPS'es, which I haven't played in a while so it was something refreshing from other genres.
Write bad things that are done to you in sand, but write the good things that happen to you on a piece of marble
Was excited to play the game, got the demo and it left a bitter taste. The game felt like a really bad mod for some game, the boss fight was perhaps the easiest boss fight ever and really just boring and the regular gameplay just felt extremely dated and generic.
I think gamers have become accustomed to seeing a certain amount of innovation in our games. Best example I can think of is like the Mario bros. series or even the Legend of zelda series of games developers have to be able to capture what drew gamers to their product in the first place but they also have to have enough innovation so that gamers don't feel like they are just playing the original again.
Most of the comments I've seen seem to point to the last part being the problem for DNF it reminds people of playing DN for the first time but lacks any features to set itself apart from it's predeccesor.
The game takes place about twelve years after the events of Duke Nukem 3D. Duke is now a worldwide icon, and has achieved great fame from his heroic deeds. After sampling a video game based on his past heroics (the game Duke plays is a revamped version of the final level of Duke Nukem 3D), he arrives on the set of a talk show for an interview. On his way to the show, Duke witnesses a news broadcast on a nearby television screen announcing that aliens have once again invaded. Unlike previous encounters, the aliens initially appear peaceful and at first seem to pose no harm to the humans of Earth. Duke's talk show appearance is cancelled to allow television stations to cover the alien invasion, and he retires to the "Duke Cave".
There, he receives a call from The President and General Graves of the Earth Defense Force (EDF). The president orders him not to harm the invaders, and adds that he is in diplomatic talks with the alien overlord. Duke obliges this request, but remains uneasy about the whole situation.
Duke Nukem Forever rocks!!
I disliked it.....inferior to others in the genre....
Apotheos
Oh... it's not horrible just not good. I guess they are wishing they had bought the Commander Keen intellectual property instead about now. Too bad.
Serious Sam is all that's left.

To find an intelligent person in a PUG is not that rare, but to find a PUG made up of "all" intelligent people is one of the rarest phenomenons in the known universe.
Duke Nukem forever really is a terrible game I've played it and it's got horrible coding and it just seems incredibly outdated. Just because the game is been in development for 10 years does not mean it can be good in fact it means the opposite means everything they do is going to be dated to the times and when it was first designed. I really don't understand how people thought this was going to be a good game I was calling it from day one that it was going to suck.
Heh , I've pre ordered it , played it , finished it , now in the closet.
But I did enjoy it , just not enough to get it back out of the closet. :P
If you really enjoyed the Duke Nukem series , you'll enjoy this.
I'm definitely thinking of buying it. I tried the sample game and thought it was pretty fun.
I actually loved the first Duke Nuk'em.
Then again, I have a pub and "B Movie" night every Thursday night so I can appreciate this type of *cough* humor.
Oh, and tonight we are watching "Angel of Destruction" with Maria Ford.

I was a huge fan of the original games, but I just cannot seem to get the same feeling from DNF.
It seems rushed, poorly designed, and the overall quality of the game (on the whole) is extremely low.
If I could return it, I would. Tis coaster material
PS: The best thing the game has to offer, imho, are Duke's one-liners.
It's not bad, but it's oddly one of those games that would have been better actually if it were condensed.
The filler content detracts a lot of enjoyment from it.
Some sort of odd ball multiplayer game mode would have carried on better than all the driving shtick.
I used to play MMOs like you, but then I took an arrow to the knee.
