As I rudely today while reading the forums, returning Premium players who do NOT subscribe or pay an 'IO access fee' will NOT have access to their previously slotted Invention Origin enhancements, and will be playing characters with no enhancements (no SOs, no nothing, though apparently Hammis still work).
IOs can either be activated through subscribing, or through buying access to them through the paragon market.
Details here: http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Paragon_Rewards
Those who want lifetime access to their IOs without subscribing will need to have 27 Reward Tokens, or the equivalent of having previously subscribed 66 months to the game. otherwise it's $2.00* a month to keep your IO functionality. (may be revised)
TL:DR, Freedom comes with a lot of caveats, they still want your money obviously.
Remember, it has to be fun to be a game. Grinding is a bedroom activity, and the point is definitely not to do my wife as fast as possible.

To be honest I'd be surprised if they didn't want people's money.
The only thing that kind of worries me is how restrictive chat is for truly new players, but that goes away pretty quickly once someone spends any money.
It sucks for returning players who have several toons already decked out in IO's yea. Then again $2 a month is extremely cheap, assuming you don't pay for anything else.
But yea, they do need to make money somehow I suppose.
Not that I think it's going to make someone who's not a VIP and has a terrifingly IOed out character feel better, but the players don't have to mess up their IO build if they don't want to. They could just use their second build and slot it up with regular enhancements.
Now, if they're one of those people who has IOs in both builds (or all 3 builds if they unlocked the third build) ... I've got nothing.
I really hope they're working on City of Heroes 2. I just can't get back into this game for some reason
I was thinking in playing a bit at the same time as CO, since I have a couple of 50s and at the time I played I bought some character slots, so I should have space for my favorite old ones and some new ones. However, IO stuff is kind of turn off, adding to having to adapt again to a slow pace combat style.
