After not being an Guide (Game Master) in Xsyon anymore, due to personal issues, I decided to tell you share my story of the game, it's developers and the road it took and it is heading. But first, let's start at the beginning:
I started playing the game in it's beta stage when I heard some rumours of a game that has some great potential. The next thing I did was that I went to YouTube to look up some videos, and indeed it was the kind of game that I was looking for back then. A game in which you have noithing, and can create almost everything. In a short first glimpse that I received by watching those gameplay video's on youtube the inevitable happened, I got hyped. I honestly remember telling to myself that I was hyped, and that I shouldn't expect the best of it. But yet I did.
Well, the hype clearly decreased when I saw the website design. The gaming website maked so much of a deal to me, that after seing that poor website design I immediately clicked the tab away and my gaming heart was once again broken. But yet, the positive posts on MMORPG.com from actually in-game players made me decide to yet again go to their website and try to make the purchase, but this time I actually did. I didn't purchase the game because I was hyped, or because I was one of those desperate players willing to try everything to get some new 'thrills'. No, I just thaught that Xsyon was a game worth trying, and like many others I was in the stage of willing to support an Indy Company who were trying to make an game lead by their ideals and dreams.
I started downloading the game, what in that time didn't really go smooth due to client 'issues'. After a couple of days of non-stop downloading I finally got it and I started my character named Zoria, a gaming name I use in general. Before I even got into the game I decided not to join a tribe or any such but to live a life purely on myself in the wilderness, my secret wet dream if everybody wants to know. After I finally chose my pre-order weapon I actually got into the game with some fishing skills, loging skills and a really nice pre-order shovel that would help me to terraform. I climbed fairly high up in the mountains, but never left the presence of water and finally after some explorering I found a really nice spot. There were 3 natural walls so I only needed to build a really high wall on one side. Proudly, I placed my totum and from that time, I continued my adventure.
I had a blast the first couple of weeks. I managed to stay alive, on which I was very proud from the beginning, and even made a nice wall and a tent. I had my first encounter with a bear, and slaughtered him with great joy. But after a week or three, It became a little boring, since I was there all on my own and I didn't see the use in further building/killing naughty bears. I drastically changed my playing style, I got all back to the lake from which I first started and decided to swim to the island in the middle of it. To my suprise, I wasn't the only there, actually there was a huge city made there sololy from terraforming. Terraforming back at my old tribe became my favorite thing to do, so as soon as I saw these people I decided to Chat and join their tribe. So there I was, enjoying my pre-order shovel and my new friends in the middle of the lake.
It all went well, and I was able to get another month of playtime for a game which actually still enjoyed me more then a month. I was fairly active at the forums so as soon as I saw the announcement that they were looking for new Guides I instantly e-mailed them with an application form and to my suprise I got in! Woah I thaught, it was the first Game Master experience I had and I felt another blast for this game. It started really nice, the guys there were trully really friendly, and most of them former players like me just wanted to push this game to the limit. Our Guide Duties were to help players contacting the Help channel and to place animals from time to time. It wasn't all that much, but yet I enjoyed it. And with being a Guide I got some great background information. I was able to give my opinion directly to the developers and many of those suggestions actualy went live later on. It was a new dimension of gaming to me, and hell I enjoyed it.
A couple of months after that, the game populations seriously declined and I was forced to quit my Guide duties due to personal issues. The game was quite empty the times I decided to resub on my origional account but still I enjoyed the idea of developers giving you a sandbox that you can play in, and they do that just literally! The game is great, but still empty and the graphics are somewhat poor. I do enjoy the sandbox and it's features. The game masters I know are one of the best gents you can play with and the developers do care about your opinions.
But, there always is a but, the game is not able to survive I am afraid. Developers became practically singular and many game masters also left with the community. Development shows activity but much more then a 'cart' and regrowing trees we are not getting due to the fact that there are no resources. Still, I would advice everybody to enjoy the game and it definetaly is a test to your sandboxyness. The game has some really ambitious developers that care about it's players. But after all this time, there should be either capital invested in the game or it should fade away like it does now.
Comments
If you where a guide you would of never posted, I been a GM for a few games, and after I quit disliking what I saw in that game, and being in the buisness you still don't come ona forum likeMMORPG.com knowing there is some many trolls its sick to talk about what goes on behide closes doors, have some honor and keep it to your self.
I doubt you where a GM anyways. The few Gm's that left where let go for cheating, and some where just not good. There was a few that left for other reasons, but they barely ever need Gm's since most of them have stayed. The game is not perfect, but atleast Jordi and the team cares about the game, Jordi works him self sick, so he does care as the man is sick from working so much. I wish all DEVS cared this much about there game. To bad Jordi got screwed but a programmer causing this mess and for the game to release in its state. But the game will be great one day. No matter what the trolls say, or think.
Well then, See your PM.
They love their game, it's their baby, and they have 1 million ideas to make it the best game ever. But they simply do not have the resources for it, and then the community starts to leave. As I am speaking the current players online at the forums is 7. That is not the number of a healthy community is it?
I am not here to make fun about Xsyon's developers or Guides, I am only here to TRY to make this forums a place were everybody can go for it's quality. I wanted to post this message in hopes that it may get to people and perhaps, only perhaps may give this game another shot. I am all for it, the more people that do so the more activity we will see from the developers. And god, this game has potential. But it just does not have the manpower and resources to make this game truly shine.
A big wall of text to qualify your opinion. Just give it and move on.
Aye I agree, I had more fun writing it, then reading it. But hell it was posted almost 1 month ago. Let it rest.
Man power you say? You don't need 100 people to make a decent MMO these days, I been in the buisness and if you have the experince then it can work, if you knew more about this game and claim you where a guide you would be a little more sympathetic and ahave a little more understand, Jordi vision of what Xsyon should be and will be , will happen, sadly he trusted the wrong people other wise the features would of been there, he has gave peopel refunds, most DEVS would of never gave those refunds.
I'm sorry I disagree with you on some many points other than, yes this game needs alto of work, which no one can deny , jordi does nto deny it, the man kills himself working on this game. I wish he never trusted certain people sadly in this buisness its hard to trust anyone, thats another reason we are seeing games made by one person or small teams because they have a vision , lower budgets. I stick to smaller scale games as MMO's take alot of your life away with small teams, but it cna be done, I think Jordi should of used a current engine out there , that would of saved him so much time and money. TO many indes do this and thats why I think they do poorly. By the way what you sent me still proves nothing, I have seen that from a friend. That is going around that same thing.
Again though if you where a Guide I would never allow you to be one again as you should not share anything, even if you like or dislike the company. Its out of respect and being professional, but I can tell you are not in the buisness , they just added you to be a GM, which they did add some Gm's that had no experince, even a 15 year old I heard which he turned out to be horrid, also another was cheating. Now though the Gm's are better and they picked the right ones, before they did it on trust which is not wise when it comes to the Net, you never know what you will get.
There is way more then 7 people that log in, I know some people that do and some from my guild alone log in , so your incorrect, but your right the population is really low, but so in asheron call 1, there online since 98, and Earthrise, and many more are still online, they dont need to have 1million subs to surrive. Jordi will do fine with Xsyon... MAYBE not today but in the future.
I don't see why there's so much hate against the OP. I didn't read anything in the original post that was really flaming the game or being hateful. It was a huge wall of text however I enjoyed the read. I think people should read the entire post before criticizing. I thought the OP was being quite endering toward Xsyon and the developers. The only thing negative that was really said was there's hardly anyone left in the game and it got boring after a while. Countless people have said that so stop hating.
Well here you have my answer to your criticism. "The game masters I know are one of the best gents you can play with and the developers do care about your opinions." If you would have the guts to actually read the entire post you would have found just that.
Let me put it this way, the game has a golden and beautiful idea that makes the game really attractive. It has some of the best Guides and developers a game could wish and a pretty hardcore community. At the other hand, if there would be more FUNDS to get this game bigger (and better) there would be 10x the number of current subscribers. This game does not lach ideas, it lacks development time. Xsyon was never build for the current state it is in, neither subscription or development wise. Xsyon develops had to drastically change their development plans and growth ideas to stay alive. You can not say that Xsyon is a succes, and no Guide or Developer is saying so.
And something else, if you would go to: http://www.xsyon.com/forum/ and scroll down the game page, the actual players logged in at the forums RIGHT NOW is 10. Yesterday it was 7. Don't be over optimistic and have the guts to look at the negatives of a game, it's community and the company it is run by.
If you are having a great time, enjoy! Because so am I.
"Again though if you where a Guide I would never allow you to be one again as you should not share anything, even if you like or dislike the company. What are you implieing. Making up stories in order to make me feel bad? No, I quit being a Guide of Xsyon, I still play on my regular account. I have said that I won't tell anybody about my Guideship. And I have not done that. Have you got any idea who I am, what my name is or where I live? Do you even know my real name? Or do you have any idea what my guide name was? Well in my opinion the answers those questions are no. I have nobody on these forums with who I play any game. I am here to say my stuff, and respond to otherone's stuff.
I am here as a FORMER guide to tell people about the game, it's community and it's developers. I have no more duties and will not have any in the future. You seriously miss guidance in your reactions, please now, let it rest and if you have any more comments give me a personal message. I am able to discuss further if you like there.
Because the few fanboys this game has are so deluded about the state of the game that they will rabidly attack anyone that say anything critical about the game. The sad fact is that Xsyon is a failure in the entire sense of the word. Failure is execution, development, subscriber numbers, retention rate, etc...
The game IS a ghost town with only a few die-hards sticking it out thriving on promises since the game can not offer anything else. Heck, even the forums are a ghost town with the same 3 or 4 people arguing the same point over and over...
A man is his own easiest dupe, for what he wishes to be true he generally believes to be true...
I loved the concept the idea and the game, and like a sucka bought it, and was later totally dissapointed and even banned from this site because of it for months. Har har... bu no really I was.
In retrospect its 30 some odd bucks ill never get back, which in all honesty I'd rather just have donated to a decent indy outfit.
