Yeah, I'm a little bitter towards this game now. Yes, I could pay $30 for 2 more months then i'll have enough reward tokens to get MM for free, but the whole point is I already bought CoV way back when it was released...I shouldn't have to buy the classes from that again. Same with Controller, but I don't have any high level trollers, only MM.
For what little it's worth, if you're 2 tokens away from filling out the tier 3 thing, you only need to pay $15 if you haven't bought any other points from the store. The first time you buy any amount of points you get a bonus token.
Personally, I can get behind the whole idea of needing to unlock MMs and Controllers, but I agree with you in that if someone bought CoV (or really anything since then ... or even the original box for Controllers) then they should really have access to them.
As a former subscriber, the main 2 things that are character developing blockers are invention system and incarnates, which is fine since it is a game not a charity. My 50s are on hold since all their IOs were grayed and I am not going to throw them away to put SOs. Therefore, I am just rolling a new char to see how things are going(still feels bit slow, I guess the other 2 games spoiled me). The premium program is nice since at least I have some stuff like wings, some more inventory space, etc.
I'm back in as a former subscriber; thanks mmorpg for posting that bit of news; and really I'm kind of underwhelmed that returning players aren't at least being tossed a little bone here.
You get to play all the content you have previously purchased subscription free...
Thats a pretty damned big bone.
Except IOs, my demonic Mastermind from Going Rogue, or access to my editted missions.
And regardless to the other post saying I was wrong.. My software says otherwise.
You can play the game 100% withouit IOs (it is officially balanced for SOs anyhow) and having them or not does not bar you from any content.
As for your edited missions, well th AE was a free addition anyhow, it was never part of any purchase you made. They have more then a right to use it to add value now.
Honestly, if you like the game and how it plays then support it. If you don't, then don't. This silly nitpicking about how everything is not avaiilable for 100% free for all time is tragic imo. The model they are offering is probably the best I have ever seen personally in these games and is extremely generous. It is intelligent, balanced, and very fair. The fact that it manages to not offend even me speaks volumes TBH.
Some people, when given a gold bar, can only complain that it isnt shiny enough I guess.

Yeah, I'm getting tired of this p**sing and moaning too. I just realized where I'd heard this whine before: a Biblical parable.
A landowner hires some day laborers for the standard mutually-agreed daily wage. Then several more times during the day, he checks the marketplace and hires any other day laborers that turned up later. At the end of the day, the landowner pays EVERYONE a full day's wage, even those hired at 3PM and 5PM. And, of course, the guys he hired at 6AM gripe about it. Never mind that they're getting the wage they agreed on, they think they "deserve" more than the latecomers.
Come on, people! You knew the (subscription) deal you were paying for when you bought the boxes! The fact that some latecomers are now being enticed with a sort of "free" play deal does not devalue the deal you originally bought into (except in your own minds).
I'm back in as a former subscriber; thanks mmorpg for posting that bit of news; and really I'm kind of underwhelmed that returning players aren't at least being tossed a little bone here.

I've spent 90 bucks on boxes that new people won't have to.
I bought the boxes, City of Villains and Going Rogue for their content. And I happily paid my monthly fee then.
Well now they want me back and now I have to buy... Invention system, Masterminds, access to the Alignment system.... Again.
I've paid for it already.
I'd buy the hover board, I'd buy the new ATs.
But I won't pay for shit that I've paid for already. That's hardly nitpicking.
I used to play MMOs like you, but then I took an arrow to the knee.
You shouldn't actually have to re-buy the alignment system again. That's on their features list comparison on the website as being part of the Going Rogue expansion so if you bought it before it should still be yours. The store doesn't remove previously purchased items though, so you should still see the option to buy it but you'll also get an error when you actually try to buy it.
If that's not the case I'd try to contact support.
I can understand the controller and mastermind thing, but not so much the inventions. They were never really 'part' of a boxed set and were just a system added to the game in an issue just like the other ATs you're ok with buying were.
I've been the biggest CoH fan forever. But after this crap. I don't care for it. I bought all the boxes too. But that apparently doesn't mean anything. But I've said it before, they most likely dont care about returing players and just want a sneakier way to get money from new players. Because freemium is a joke. It irks me that so many people are falling for it with all these games.
Maybe you need to look at it from a different perspective. In a subbased MMO you never buy content with a box. It is not an offline singleplayer game. You only pay (box is usually 1st month) for access and with your sub you pay for the 2nd month and beyond for access. There is also no clear division with content that is part of the box, or is delivered free afterwards. If your sub ends, your access ends. No matter how many boxes and expansions you bought. They are just entry fees.
So with the transition to f2p, it doesnt automatically mean that you are entitled to access to certain content because you once bought the box and maybe an expansion. Because you never have been the owner of the content, you only paid to have access to the content.
So anything you get to use in f2p mode is actually free and a gift. But its their right to determine what is part of f2p and what not and how they will reward returning players. Which in this case is a premium account. You are not entitled to anything as f2p account.
That is if you can remember your NCsoft master accounts name, password, and security question answers as well as the City of Xs game account name and password.
What is this, 1999? Who forgets their username and passwords? The way you typed that make its sounds like, you're blamming NCsoft, when its clearly the account holder's fault.
Anyway, yeah, VIPs are the only ones that are subscribing. Premium have put money into the game at some point in the game's existance. Its not that great anyway. You're still going to be limited in character slots and choices even if you've already used them before. So You're probably be locked out of the characters you want play. Maybe when we get the points for the marketplace, we can use them to make it worth playing again. If this gives CoH new life, it might make it fun again. Who knows.
Hate to burst your bubble but I actually remember what my password should be and what the answer to my security question is, as I have them in a word doc along with my game key since I travel a lot and can't drag a bunch of shyte around with me, and I still cannot get into my CoH account. So it isn't as cut and dried as "you should remember your info".
AND I got the exact same run around about the middle of last year when I decided to try the game out again for a month. Now I can accept it may have been my fault somehow one time, but not twice. There is something wonky with their system and long inactive accounts.

To get lifetime Wentworth's access and play in Mission Architect, regardless of subbing or not (Tier 4), that's 8 tokens -- you can get that with
having already purchased 21 months of subtime or
having already purchased 18 months of subtime + buying any 1 box* or
having already purchased 18 months of subtime + making your first purchase in the paragon market**, or
having already purchased 15 months of subtime + buying any 1 box* + making your first purchase on the paragon market**, or
maintaining an ongoing subscription for at most 8 months***
To get access to MMs and Controllers ATs, regardless of subbing or not (Tier 5) - that's 13 tokens -- you can get that with
having already purchased 33 months of subtime or
having already purchased 30 months of subtime + buying any 1 box* or
having already purchased 30 months of subtime + making your first puchase in the paragon market**, or
having already purchased 27 months of subtime + buying any 1 box* + making your first purchase on the paragon market**, or
maintaining an ongoing subscription for at most 12 months***#
To get full access to Mission Architect, regardless of subbing or not (Tier 6), that's 20 tokens -- you can get that with
having already purchased 48 months of subtime, or
having already purchased 45 months of subtime + buying any 1 box* + making your first purchase on the paragon market**, or
maintaining an ongoing subscription for at most 19 months***#
To get lifetime access to IOs, regardless of subbing or not (Tier 7) -- that's 27 tokens -- you can get that with
having already purchased 66 months of subtime or
having already purchased 63 months of subtime + buying any 1 box* or
having already purchased 63 months of subtime + making your first purchase in the paragon market**, or
having already purchased 60 months of subtime + buying any 1 box* + making your first purchase in the paragon market** or
maintaining an ongoing subscription for at most 25 months***#
* -- you get 1 token if you applied a retail code (box or electronic version). They do honor codes entered after freedom launched.
** -- you get 1 token for your first purchase ever on the paragon market (minimum 400pp = $5.00)
*** -- Going forward, you get 1 token for each month subscribed. For any subtime accumulated before Freedom hit, it is calculated as 1 token for every 3 months.
# -- You get an additional token for every 12 months subscribed..
In addition, you get 1 token for every 1200 points ($15.00) spent, cumulatively -- doesn't have to be one purchase.
So, the question to the people not subscribing anymore, where do you fall on cumulative earned tokens? You can log in and see how many you have.
If you're a token or 2 away, as is the case of Gravarg, he can make a 1 time $15.00 purchase and get 2 tokens, giving full access to MM and Controllers ATs without subscribing. He can then use that 1200 PP's to buy any fun stuff he wants. For example, he could use that 1200 points to then buy 8 months worth of invention licenses. He now has full access to any IOs. Note: he already qualifies for access to the Auction House and playing in MA.
Now, the question Gravarg must ask is this -- if $15.00/month is too much to play the game, then is less than $2.00/month also too much to play the game? In his shoes, I would say that's an awesome deal and claim that is the beauty of freemium.
It is pretty much a scheme to make you pay your duties for many privilegues. Anyway, Incarnate system is VIP only so they will always be a bit ahead(probably matter the most for pvpers). Since the game was supposed to be tailored to SOs(not sure if that is still the case) I am going to play with SOs, and at the same time will let me escape from most of the AH headache. Imho, if I can't enjoy the game with SOs, I won't probably enjoy it with IOs either.
Still, I am not in a rush, my other mmos(and work) keep me busy enough.
I'm back in as a former subscriber; thanks mmorpg for posting that bit of news; and really I'm kind of underwhelmed that returning players aren't at least being tossed a little bone here.

I see your point more with your access to your MM etc, but considering you are getting so much for free I would say get over it.
What is interesting though is that my GF has started playing on my original account (which is premium now) and has made a controller... maybe it is a vet award thing, but that account was only active for just over 12 months I think. Didint you play for that long before?

Hmm, did NC fiddle the account types at some point? I used to play DAoC with a Mythic account. But to log in for a 2-week freebie reactivation this spring, I had to create an EA account and link the Mythic master account to it.

They added a security layer to the NCsoft master account that way if a hijacker gets your account login and password, they can't login because their IP isn't in the allowed list and they have to answer the secret question as well as the birthdate and birthplace (I think). A little annoying when it doesn't work even though you have everything correct, thus I had to contact NC support and they gave me a window to just change the master account password and to get in.

I'm not ruling out that something is broken and CS is looking in to it.
I have 14 months subbed and previously had the vet rewards that went with it. I've spent my tokens that I had obtained and found it to be a dumb ass system over all because you kind of have to go in sequence; therefore it seems redundant.

Whatever you say. I think you're daft if you feel it's the most generous f2p transfer you've seen.
All of my LotRO and DDO paid items came over.
This is just beggin for ransom money in my opinion. Over all I feel that being complacent won't fix anything and that voicing that this system is ridiculous is valid.
Are they afraid returning accounts wouldn't pay for new archtypes? We'd not buy the hover board and the seperate booster items?
I'm not going to support this model with any cash until they fix it.

That's hardly nitpicking.
You already said you used to play a sub. The invention system was added in Issue 9, which the sub obviously covered.
You no longer pay a sub.
As for the alignment system; It is only available to VIP players, players who have purchased Going Rogue, and players who have purchased it in the Paragon Market.
I'm not ruling out that something is broken and CS is looking in to it.
I have 14 months subbed and previously had the vet rewards that went with it. I've spent my tokens that I had obtained and found it to be a dumb ass system over all because you kind of have to go in sequence; therefore it seems redundant.
hehe it seems your determined to be pissed of about something :P
Whatever you say. I think you're daft if you feel it's the most generous f2p transfer you've seen.
All of my LotRO and DDO paid items came over.
This is just beggin for ransom money in my opinion. Over all I feel that being complacent won't fix anything and that voicing that this system is ridiculous is valid.
Are they afraid returning accounts wouldn't pay for new archtypes? We'd not buy the hover board and the seperate booster items?
I'm not going to support this model with any cash until they fix it.
Look, we have been over this{mod edit}
I get that you seem to have some kind of bug or something that is stopping you getting on your MM but you have said already that CS is dealing with it {mod edit}

But ah well. I can live without CoH now anyway.
"Gypsies, tramps, and thieves, we were called by the Admin of the site . . . "
Who knows.

I had the same problem since I moved a couple months ago and have a different ISP, just send a ticket to NC and provide your birthdate and secrete answer and they'll give you a 48 hour window to provide a new password for your master account.
Just for reference....
You already said you used to play a sub. The invention system was added in Issue 9, which the sub obviously covered.

Do you want everything in the game? Do it the old fashioned way: subscribe. Unlike EQ2X's "Gold" accounts, a CoH subscription gets you the full game.
