I think if you are primarely there for PvE Rift is a great game, enjoy it and have fun. From a PvP perspective, regardless of how much potential there was, Trion has show complete and utter ignorance and disinterest in that portion of thier game.

I do not think SWTOR is going to be all that much better, specially in regards to PvP, but its something new to play instead of logging into Rift, killing the exact same people in one of three areas or going into the same few warfronts to fight the same people every day.

Prime is the next good PvP game if you like world three faction PvP, least in my opinion.

Until they can introduce something to this game thats not fighting or minigames, I won't be coming back. Shame since I have 2 level 50's on a account.

So in your first 30 days you got 2 characters to level 50 and one fully geared for pve and pvp ?

Im sorry but thats rubbish, no way you could do that in 30 days.

For me it simply will never be enough. Rift falls short in too many areas. Small world and quest hub over kill contribute far too heavily toward killing any sense of exploration or reason to venture into the world for other than Rift events which became far too repetitive for me.

As for some mentioning SWTOR as an option to not return to Rift ... all I can say is that I have beta tested it and seen enough to say yes sir, yuppers, I totally agree, I am never returning to Rift :)

Hell maybe even GW2 will be a better distraction still ... who knows. One thing is clear though, uninspired games like Rift simply do not cut it for me or any of my friends and former guildies. Of well over 15 players who I have mmo'd with before who jumped over to Rift, every single one of them stopped playing it within  month.

As much as I love Rift I'm going to be trying StarWars along with the rest of my Rift guild . We are already talking about forming one in TOR . I think some will play both and some will give up for StarWars . Personally I'll proberbly play StarsWars for a few months then when I get bored with it I'll play Rift for a few months when new contents out and proberbly continue like that back and forth . I've never had fanboy loyalty to any one game. For the first time in years with the new crop of mmos I think its unlikly I'll ever resub to WoW again and if I do it ll be at christmas to go back and see a few old mates for a month  . I get better and more challenging gameplay elsewhere . Also there loads of f2play mmos to play on a casual basis .

It's fortunate that I hate all things Star Wars. I won't be tempted to try the game at all.

You also need to understand the NDA = non disclosure agreement you accepted if you are telling the truth about being in beta.

Even mentioning the fact your in beta for TOR is enough to break the NDA which alot of people don't seem to understand.

Now anyways back to Rift :)

The size of the playable world is not too bad really for a new mmo on the market. I actually think trion did very well especially too for a smooth launch and also the constant content updates every month. The game is not for everyone and never claimed to be. Just like wow I hate with a passion yet some people absolutely love it.

Rift is improving at a rapid rate and its worth sticking out to see what happens over the next year or so.

Ok, guys that is really annoying with SWTOR  and GW2. It is always someone who try to compare this 2 games with every game on the market today. We will se what future will bring for this 2. It is topic about Rift and if you don't have anything to write about this game so please don't do it. I played for 2 months Rift and  endgame was not so great but how i can see Trion team try realy hard to add something new to Rift and to get people back. I think i will try this game again

  • VolgoreVolgore Member EpicPosts: 3,872

Trion probably thought they'd took an easy way with the game. Smallest world possible, few races (all humanoid), ~ 4 type of quests, copy and paste everything else from other games and slap in a few raids afterwards. Lore excuse for not even having capital cities etc., there many more examples of the cheap route they took with Rift in general.

But now, after 6 month already they got themselves spinning in various vicious circles here. Many design decisions backfired, aspects of what Trion thought would be an easy money game (=wow chunk) are burning and setting other ones on fire, while tons of players jumped the ship. The game that was supposed to "advance the genre the day it ships"  is barely able to advance itself and already getting fixed (with half baked attempts) allover the place.

Even rifts became meaningless in the process. Trion's tries to make rifting more attractive with inventing crafting rifts and slivers failed, while pvp-rifts turned into an outright desaster. In fact, they haven shown many times that they aren't able to even carry the weight of the games' 2 main concepts over a period of 6 month only: Rifts and the soul system.

I seriously doubt that Trion has the manpower and concept to get enough of a headstart before the heavyweights enter the ring. 6 month already wasted with continious basic changes and reverts the patch after. 50% wardrobe, cleric changes reverted again on the PTS already?

I love the promise of 1.5 though, gonna get 2 copies then. But then, speaking about promise:

I don't play RIFT but this update sounds sweet.

Can you please whine more? Some of you are never gonna be satisfied. Rift adds endgame content people whine that it needs to improve level 1-50. Blizzard improve and work on the 1-60 experience people cry that they only want end-game content. This is just getting pathetic -_-

There is a lot that I like about Rift and I might come back some day, but this made me laugh so hard. Such an ego trip.

How do you know what most Rift players think about SWTOR?  Did you conduct a poll?  How big is your sampling size?  10 players?  20?  I think you're going to be surprised at how many people will leave Rift for SWTOR, considering that many subscribed to Rift as a way to hold them over until titles like SWTOR and GW2 came out.  And don't think Trion doesn't know this.  There is a reason why they are churning out content updates.  They realize attrition is coming and they are going to need to retain as much of their player base as they can.

I like how you question him 'how do you know most Rift players think about SWTOR, did you conduct a poll' and then go on making same silly statement. How about you? did you conduct a poll? how big is your sampling size? 10? 20 players?

Because you surely know that many subscribers will leave and are currently using Rift as a way to hold them till SWTOR and GW2 release. Gotto love the double standards in your posting dude.

  • Have been abroad for 3 weeks and a bit gobsmacked at the rate they are improving Rift. New content is being released so fast I'm not even close to keeping up with things!

I'd have thought players could at least acknowledge Trion is a company apart in how quickly and willingly they are adding to Rift.

The solo/duo dungeons sound awesome as does the planar attunement extension to xp gain.

    Good job Trion!

Indeed. If it was SOE or say Funcom one would wait for years to get stuff like this. For example chronicles and planar attunement system. They would most probably release expansions to milk the player base dry. And here is Trion giving us a parallel system to gain xp and improve our characters further. But all the negativity was to be expected. it is hard to appreciate Trion otherwise how will people who thrive on negativity on this site, feel better about themselves?

Glad to see content updates rolling out continuously. I'm sure some people will leave to go to SWTOR but the majority of players I know won't be trying SWTOR and are waiting for GW2.

So these updates are certainly appreciated.

You pretty much need either a second player or, as mentioned in the article, an "ultra-buffed" character. Even in raid gear, it wasn't at all uncommon for people to die several times.

Essentially, this move to make the story more accessible to everyone still isn't making it accessible to soloers. If you want to run them alone, you'll have to get geared up in raids first, which seems counterintuitive.

This. I thought these were meant to be for soloers. I lost all interest. It IS counterintuitive.
