Guild Leaders: Guild Alignment Begins

http://www.swtor.com/news/news-article/20110921

Just a taste:  With Phase 2: Alignment, we are introducing new features which allow guilds to set their allegiance with other guilds in The Old Republic. Now a guild leader, along with members who have the proper permissions, can select up to three guilds as either Allies or Adversaries, depending on their faction affiliation. Qualifying guilds that are marked as Allies and Adversaries of other guilds will have the highest chance of being placed in the game together, allowing these guilds to coexist on the same server.

Glad to see things are progressing on this front.  Don't forget to familiarize yourself with the Games Guild System if you haven't: http://www.swtor.com/info/systems/guilds

As a guild leader of a small guild I really like this feature. I can follow and create alliances from my SWG days on Star Sider.

I concur that's what we're doing as well.

Not to "steal" the thread but am wondering if any that have joined or created a guild for the game is annoyed with the same thing I am..... Roleplay Guilds with ridiculous names.

Examples I see on the SW:TOR forums when you search guilds:

    Fistfull Of Boomstick..

    WholeWitted Nerf Herders..

    Go Team Venture..

... That is just a couple examples.  I am very curious what the people of these so called Guilds consider roleplay. My experience with people in RP guilds with names like the above tend to be *icks, Kids, or those who simply just desire to mess with emmersion for others.

I'm the type that goes to some lengths to make a good sounding name for a game.

Anytime i see a name like leets R us or, werollyouguild i do a /facepalm

but then i also do the same likewise when i see things like Ipwnyouall Indaface when regarding normal names. It doesn't really anger me, it just makes me sigh and remind myself to not personally group with someone like that.

Theres a difference between good names, bad names and just trying to break the lore of the game. I like the first, i'm okay with the second, the third i try to avoid. Sadly that isn't going to be possible, i fully expect in any game with multiple players to come across someone who thinks it's cool to just outright break the immersion of the game, like naming yourself Snapekillsdumbeldore or Vaderislukesfather, it's the nature of people, it irks you for sure, but unless the company in charge sets up a team of people just to comb the names peridoically or requires you to register your name or guild name beofre you do it. Then i don't see much way around this myself.

As for Bioware, well Bioware is kind of big on the world making sense and the immersion thing so they may go to some lengths to get rid of the more..obvious lore breaking names.

As for the guild in existance i'm not too sure they've even gone through the names to see what works..they should soon though if they haven't, at least get rid of some of the more errornious ones.

Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.

Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.

Here is for hoping they do go through the names. If they are real deep into wanting everyone to feel immersed, they'll find the names and push a plague upon them :)

I agree that stupid names can ruin guilds, and there isn't as much excuse for guilds to have terrible names because they are usual multi word things so odds are it's not taken, but I have ended up with some pretty terrible names in games before....after trying about 20 "good" names eventually you just get pissed off, and start typing words until something says approved. I have certain original names I use in games that I don't post in forums just so they aren't taken, but those are only for mains...alts get the shaft when naming because they are usually made after way to many people are on your server.......oh, and guild something something is a cool idea for playing with your friends.

An option to not see guildnames on others would solve that issue though. Would really like that. A player guild is kind of an artificial structure in the Swtor IP anyway; racial, faction and planetary allegiances would be much more important in a true RP sense I suppose.

In that sense I might end up in an RP guild which has that stuff sorted: not simply a conglomerate of people from all over the galaxy who happen to all fight against either the empire or the republic, but more of a specific, planetary or racial militia kind of guild within that faction.

Focussing on dealing with pve and pvp threats on your "home planet" or protect your own racial interest, next to being part of the bigger empire / republic conflict will add a lot of RP flavor to Swtor.

This feature sounds pretty awesome. I hope more MMOs adopt a similar feature.

I also agree about the guildnames, but I'd rather they didn't go censoring guild names (that can be frustrating too). I have to say, if I ever end up fighting against "Go Team Venture!" I'll have a good long laugh over it. Especially if they have members named Deen, & Brock Sampson.

Arent you supposed to have alliances / wars with guilds in your server like it's been happening since the start of MMOs?

I'm right there with both of you.  I just saw an interview in the last week where they asked about "bad" names and the person from BioWare said something along the lines of "vulgar is out, but freedom for the rest of it".  No that is not an exact quote and I am trying to find a link right now.
