When CCP first mentioned they were creating another game to tie into Eve Online, my heart was pounding at the possibilities. What exactly was I hoping for?
Mech's.
Yes, Mech's. With virtually all the basics complete from Eve Online, as far as slots for items, heat, ammo, types of weapons and even engine modifications, what would have been better than Eve Online working with Pirahna to create, what I would believed to be, the greatest venture in MMO history - finally mixing together that great divide of Console and PC gaming.
Think about it, You're a large corporation in Eve Online and you want to secure some resources on a planat that is basically the pivital resource for your production chain. What do you do? You roll up in a Drop Ship full of Hellcats and Locusts to hold it while in the next system over, you are dropping off Atlas's and Marauders as a vanguard against a rival corporation.
Man, the posibilities - LOST!

That option is still not completely out of the question actually, but I think Dust 514 is exactly what it should have been and should be. What an ingeneous idea. The collaboration of two games under the same IP, and not only that but part of the same universe where one effects the other. Awesome.
Oh, I definately believe it was a brilliant idea to bring the two gaming platforms together under a semi-split roof but the possibilities of Mechwarrior game attached to Eve Online was just....
....ahhhh man
If i remembered it correctly, during Fanfest two years ago when the announced Dust 514. It is said they'll include vehicles to the game, tanks, and yes mechs (but not from battletech universe though).
On the side note, damn you harmony gold. Thank you for ruining my Battletech (and the new MechWarrior too).
I agree. Mechs, but other vehicles, too. So much more interesting than just another pedestrian shooter. Sure, Dust might turn out to be more than that, it might have mechs, and of course vehicles of some sort, but that's very different in terms of gameplay from making it all about vehicular combat, mech or otherwise.
When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.
I was very dissapointed to see it become a mindless FPS.
Why? Because FPS games are FotM and players move in herds from one to the other. The lifecycle of FPS games is so short compared to the rich history Eve Online has. I just feel that Dust will play well for a time, then become another gravestone - then what will happen to that aspect of Eve?
Really? This argument still? How many console FPS's have the persitance aspect or tie into a larger universe like Dust 514 will? The answer is 0. MAG is about the closest thing right now and from what i've seen after Dust launches the MAG servers will be empty because ALL of the MAG clans are moving to Dust. From what I've read even non-MAG players are excited about the persistance aspect of the game.
The lifecycle of FPS games is short because there's little incentive for players to stick around when the next big FPS comes out beyond DLC releases. Dust has 2 things going for it compared to other standard fps'. The persistance and continued development, and it's going to be free-to-play
FPS games flavor of the month? Haha!
My only complaint would be, that playing a shooter on a console is total crap. It just is way better to play with mouse+keyboard instead of a joypad.
I play sports-games on my PS3 or racers, but would never buy a FPS for it.
We'll see how Dust514 plays out, if it launches at all.
Chrome hounds was a multiplayer mech game for the X Box 360, you had fully customisable mechs that filled several roles. There where long range fire support mechs and command mechs with radar and so on the amount of customisation was huge. There where hundreds of weapons to choose from as well as dozens of cockpits, tracks, wheels, 2 legs, 4 legs or hovercraft unit. Each mech could be completly unique not just because of the variety of fittings because you could also decide the layout and paint scheme.
There was an ongoing war between 3 factions and players formed clans and fought for a faction as mercs, winning battles would earn you resources that you could use to buy equipment, all equipment could be traded with other players to. The war was persistant and dynamic, once one faction won they would reset the war and start over, the winning side got rewarded with resources and fluff like medals and achievments. Sometimes wars would be over in weeks sometimes months.
Anyway to get to the point Chrome hounds was an FPS mech game with enough customisation to put some MMOs to shame and the same kind of depth behind fitting your vehicle as EVE does when fitting a space ship, it also had a persistent war that was affected by player actions.
The game was broadly similier to Dust, but for some reason the game was never a massive sucsess and while it still has a population its very much a niche game. I hope Dust does well though and now CCP have admitted they where being stupid and neglecting EVE and want to fix that I am once again considering whether to get a PS3 so I can play it, the concept of the game is very exciteing but still I know how good CCP are at keeping promises and delivering the goods.
Currently playing:
EVE online (Ruining low sec one hotdrop at a time)
Gravity Rush,
Dishonoured: The Knife of Dunwall.
(Waiting for) Metro: Last Light,
Company of Heroes II.
You can plug a kb+mouse into the ps3, shouldn't be a problem.
<Welcome to my world>
Should've been on PC.
I don't understand going to PS3; how many Eve players (mature people in general I think) even have a PS3?
And PS4 is coming out in about two years from now..
IT'S.....NOT....TARGETTED....AT....EVE.....PLAYERS. What part of that statement don't you understand?
As for the PS4 issue it's a PSN network game and it's using unreal engine, both of which makes it fairly easy to port to a new platform once it comes out, especially since the PS4 seems to be going with a standard cpu/gpu architecture on the next PS (Cell processor pfffft )
For Christ's sake, the game is barely in BETA. How can you already be whining about it?
AFAIK.. no, you can't.
When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.
As far as you know, you are wrong.

I actually have keyboard/mouse on mine for my big tv.
Wrong birdman! You can use both with ps3 easily.
The game you speak of was already made. Its called perpeetum. What the game Should have been is a PC game.
Could you be a little more specific? You mean I can play a shooter, just by plugging a keyboard into one port, and a mouse into the other? And the game will know what to do, as far as being WASD enabled, and integrating the input from both ports?
Then why do they make those keyboard/mouse emulator combos for the PS3 that get terrible reviews?

agreed. Dust looks like another average shooter.

Just because you can use something, doesn't mean you should. If the game is made to be used with the ps3 gamepad, that's probably what will net you the best results.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
Well I wish them the best of luck then since it isn't targetted at me. I won't be playing it.

I will play no more MMORPGs until somethign good comes out!
That's right.. the game isn't out yet, it's being created to tie in with EVE (which has had features added constantly since release).. BUT.. since we can't use dropships to put mechs on the planet, the game has completely failed to live up to any potential it had.
Nothing to see here.. move along folks...
Yep. Same here.

You do know that a keyboard and mouse can be connected to a PS3, right? You could even do that for a PS2.
Where's the any key?
To clarify the mouse/keyboard discussion:
Yes, you can plug them into a PS3. The thing is, I'm sure the developer has to design the game with mouse/keyboard support. I doubt that every single game supports mouse/keyboard.
That said, CCP have stated multiple times in articles and in video interviews that DUST 514 -WILL- support mouse/keyboard. Let's see if we can put this 'excuse-to-hate' to rest permanently. It seems many people complain about controls, but are totally unaware that they have said several times now that it will support mouse/keyboard as well as PS3 controller.
