Worth Returning?

lovechiefslovechiefs Member UncommonPosts: 157

Hello all

I played WoW on and off since 2005, but never really played the whole game and I havent touched the game since 2009 or so. Is it worth it to resub, restart from scratch?
How is the community? Are there people in the starting zones?
Is it still fun?

Thanks

The quests in vanilla are almost unrecognisable.  It has largely become a single player game until cap and at cap you stand around in towns waiting for dungeon finder to ping.

I would stick with the memories of what was once a good game.

    yup

if you absolutely must give the game one more try, just use the unlimited free trial. it will cure any hankering you still have for this game :P

Add the fact that the human starting zone stories are probably the best part of current WoW.

It's only good for about a month, or at most two of heavy play.

Save your money, unless you enjoy going to Moonguards' Goldshire, where the content never ends.

If you don't like a game don't play it, and quit running to MMORPG.com to trash it.

Is it worth to start from scratch? Only if you want that special feeling of being trapped in a coffin slowly sinking to the bottom of the Marianas Trench while being circled by a Megalodon intent on a snack. Leveling may have been sped up a bit but is still boring as hell.

The community? Unless you have friends in game already or want a second internship as an unpaid database tester then the community consists of hanging out while waiting for pvp/dungeon queues to pop while bandying about in Trade chat impressing the waterheads with juvenile comedy memes.

Starting zones? Starting zones and mid-levels zones are as populated as Chernobyl.

Is it still fun? That's subjective. Quick answer? No. Long answer? If you like getting in the hamster wheel and grinding achievements/rep/titles/gear then it is still fun.

^^ this, and have to add that you can get some serious open world PvP action in Goldshire, but gotta roll horde. You see, ally get pissed when you interrupt their ERP in Goldshire. You do that and suddenly the level 85s will show up.

I'd say go with the free unlimited trial at least until 4.3 comes out, it's what I'm doing. The trial actually offers a fair amount of content considering it's free; you can make Blood Elf and Draenei characters since BC is now part of the base game and you can do as many pvp battlegrounds and random dungeons as you want. The restrictions are a bit tough to work around sometimes, like not being able to use the mail system or the AH, but it can still scratch that WoW itch if you're really curious to see what sort of state the game is in.

Plus you can always convert your trial account into a full account without losing your characters if you find you like all the changes that have been made.

    "Worth returning?"

WoW is currently solo game until you hit max level, levelling is fast and convenient ,but there is no sense of adventure and no challenge at all doing this. Everything got soloized and dumbed down.

When you hit max level ,you have now this thing called LFG cross server tool ,that you can queue up for instance and wait standing in a city browsing AH or talking / speaking trash-talk on chat channels.  Then queue is full adn you get magically teleported to dungeon , you do dungeon (if you tank and/or healer be ready to get yelled at).  After you teleport to instances enough times you will be ready to find raid group. Then you raid and do other instances , idling in a city in between.

    Sounds like fun?
