Just saw a gameplay vid of SWTOR...

Video is here: http://www.swtor.com/media/trailers/eternity-vault-developer-walkthrough#comments ...

So I'm watching the gameplay, and the graphics remind me of WoW... and the combat looks like WoW but even slower... and everyone(almost) is using a lightsaber...

I don't get why everyone is dying to play this.. I mean I wanted to but after seeing the gameplay, doesn't it look somewhat boring? I'm not bashing the game or anything since I've been wanting to play it myself and trying to keep up with some news/updates on it. But it now does look like a Sci-Fi-WoW-With-Lightsabers to me.. even the laser show looks stupid to me.. ugh :(

I don't know what to tell ya.. either play it or don't.  Yea it follows a pretty standard MMO model (notice the MMO not WOW lmao)  I personally think the graphics are pretty sweet (my daughter and I being a fan of the cartoon, its almost the same artstyle)

I can't tell if your seriously a dissapointed star wars fan or just a really bad troll.  watch a different video i guess.. I cant think of ANY MMO (notice i didnt say WOW there, seeing as wow is 1 of 827480273408735807380573 similar games and by NO MEANS was the first)

ANY ANY ANY MMO video that is exciting or appealing..  the only way to really get immersed in an mmo is to be playing..  I think CoD videos are fun to watch, or BF3 videos.. Do I want to watch some D-bag record himself fighting 15 rats and then turning their tails into an npc for some coppers? helllz to the no

It just doesn't interest me all that much.

A big evil threatens the world, you need to save the world, level 50 cap, 6 players playing in some instance. Seems like I have seen this a million times before.

  • jedensuscgjedensuscg Member Posts: 209

Honestly, if years ago I never actually beta tested WoW, and you just showed me videos of it before I bought the game, I might have been like, hmm it does not look all the interesting.

But despite the anti-wow crowed now, I enjoyed many years of that game after it was released, because it was way better then any video could have showed me.

I do not trust videos anymore, they can be completely faked anyways, as some developer could edit it to look like somthign awsome when it is not, or some amatuer youtuber can take an awesome game and make it look like crap accidently.

If you are unsure about the game, just wait until it releases and then get more useful feedback from friends.

Seems like your trolling the wrong forums then....hate to break it to you, welcome to MMO's.

besides, most games only do 5 players in a instance.  LOTRO being the only decent game that has gone with 6 in a while.

You actually looked at that video and felt the combat was slower than WoW's?  Really?  Well, I'll give you credit, you are reading from Page 1 of the Hater's Handbook.  Same talking points and everything.  "Wow with Lightsabers."  That's original, haven't heard that before.

I am still unsure as to why so many people think the graphics are sub par. When you can see how many fingers you have on your character in WoW then go ahead and compare the two. I am no fanboy and a long time every-MMO player, but the graphics in SW:TOR look pretty clean.

  • DerWotanDerWotan Member Posts: 1,012

To be fair though since the game is scheduled 3000 years before KOTOR I think you'll fight the Rakatas - developers of the Starforge as the big evil but I agree, it just screams Warhammer 2.0 all over place. Tons of money and PR thrown into 1! standout feature.

So its a gamble they have to hope it turns out well, otherwise fixing such stuff would take a lot of time and money and we all know if EA isn't happy they'll close studios or shrink them into a shadow of what they were.

Personally I think Bioware as an indie could have done much better than that, think about ME graphics with KOTOR freedom in and a SW setting.

We need a MMORPG Cataclysm asap, finish the dark age of MMORPGS now!

So by commenting on the ridiculously repetitive and old-looking combat and gameplay, I'm either a troll or a disappointed SW fan?  I'm not a troll, nor a SW fan, it looks exactly like other MMORPG's. I just wanted to know why so many people are actually interested in the game, other than the voice overs in quests, SW theme, etc. I mentioned WoW because the graphics look somewhat similar.

Thats a bit of a cop out.  And untrue.  Game play videos can be very interesting.

Ive enjoyed watching GW2 vids.  And I loved watching the Skyrim demos recently released.  In fact I watched those at least three times in a single day and had a big grin on my face each time.

I am a total GW2 fan and might not play SWTOR, it depends on how much time is between the 2 games.  But I have to say, even I am getting tired of seeing these threads.  There's one of these on a daily basis.  It's one thing to take part in a discussion about game features, it is quite another to beat the hell out of a dead horse, then beat it again,  wait 20 seconds then beat it again.   Yes, it has some of the same mechanics as WOW, or more accurately the same mechanics as almost every other MMO.  Can the SWTOR crowd get some peace.

SWTOR fans, I apologize for jumping in, you guys can handle it yourselfs just fine, I just couldn't hold it back.  It's late here.

At least you believe me when I say that the combat in the video looks boring. I don't know why it does, maybe it's because of the players in the video or something.

And to the other people who I'm assuming believe I'm trolling, I don't look around at every SWTOR thread so if this has already been discussed, I'm sorry lol.  I rarely make any posts/threads and almost never about SW... And I'm in no way bashing the game, I was dying to start playing it. Jeez no need to get your panties in a twist

    Branching story arcs

    Multiplayer dialogue

    Voice overs

    Exploration rewards

    Unique crafting system

    Indepth companion system

Realistic combat (swords actually clash with each other)

Open world PvP (similar to WAR)

Cinematic story telling (you actually see mouths move instead of bobbing heads)

    Just to name a few.

Combat to me seems more similar to City of heroes then anything else, just personal opinion

Whoa I wasnt trying to offend.. I should have put it "I dont know if your serious or just trolling" Was not trying to label you or nothing , sorry if I offended.. (damn you Captain Morgan :p)

Well Im dying to play because..

1: Its bioware.. Ive bought every bioware game, big fan

2: its star wars.. enough said..

3: I think I will enjoy the best aspects taken from other games, and highly polished, with all the voice work, awesome (to me) graphics and enviroments.

4: Its exiting to  start playing a game at launch (imo) and with the rediculous amount of people waiting to log in and play, I am excited to log in and be part of the mass chaos that is a AAA major mmo launch day..

I can't agree with the fanboys, no ToR is not revolutionary or groundbreaking nor changing the way we play MMOS.. Do I PERSONALLY believe its going to be an awesome and fun smooth polished game experience? YES

Just from family and friends / co workers we are grouping up to play together on the same server, maybe start a guild.. its like almost 20 people , most of them ordered multiple copies for family members.. I ordered 4 myself.. Me, wife, daugher and roomate.  IDk man to each their own.. the videos ive seen make the game look f***ing badass, I get so mad because launch is so far away , but some people watch the videos and start crying "WoW WoW WoW WoW"

    *freaking gigantic shrug*

Dalas Dickinson is a sheep hurder. I tried my best to convince myself to play considering i'm an officer in a large SWTOR guild, but after watching this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0SFxrFuzIWI looks like clay animation.

Its not about graphics anyways, its about art direction. Personally I still think WoW is one of the best looking games in that aspect all around. SWTOR looks good enogh to me, but I doesn't interest me.

edit: I just watched the video, I do have to agree it does look oddly slow paced combat. The enemies seem to be blasting like crazy but the players kinda do like one attack every 5 seconds, half the time it seems like they arent do anything at all even thought the commentator is explaining what they are doing.

I agree, I love the Anet videos.. they use the same buzzwords over and over and over...  GW2 looks pretty cool, but id rather play a game that I know how it works.. then a game whos hype is created by buzzwords and promises of revolutionary gameplay (even though everything they are doing has been done before, they just are polishing or putting together features from multiple genres/games calling it brand new revolutionary gameplay..

Ive watched dozens of GW2 videos.. Im like *looks for this amazing never before seen gameplay*  Oh, you mean the main feature your game is riding on is random quests you just pick up by being in a certain area,, OMGZORS THATS NEVER BEEN DONE BEFORE, REVOLUTIONARY!!!!!!!

Lmao, Give me my pew pew lazors wow clone anyday :P

Yea you're probably right.  Matter of taste.

Personally in the Swtor video I can barely tell whats going on though.  A lot of Swtor vids are like that.  Its just random skills and lots of explosions and pretty lights.  Some electricity, an explosion, some blaster fire, more explosions, fire, explosions, and oh yea......explosions.

So if you like to watch things blow up, play Swtor.  Because they will be.  A lot.  Its like a pyromanics delight.

In the GW2 videos I can follow it easily.  I see absolutely everything thats going on and I can actually understand what Im seeing even though Ive never played it.  Im not dumb, and I can see the characters doing some things in the Swtor video.  Like making things blow up.  A lot.

How am I a hater when I've already said I wanted to play it?

and @quentin405 yeah sorry lol don't worry. whenever I do browse this forum I do see alot of people trying to flame each other, so it's just hard to tell anymore since everyone calls everyone a troll(just look at this thread, apparently i'm a hater of a game I've wanted to play since it has been in dev). i'll probably still play it; maybe i just need to see better gameplay videos. i remember I didn't really like rift from some videos but i played it and did like it(although i quit cuz my laptop sucked lol).

it's good you're playing with so many people you know, damn haha
