Lol usually i try to avoid posting on threads regarding swtor ............but i just wanted to say that i liked the video the op had posted... i was expecting to be disappointed, as i havent really given in to to all the hype regarding the game, but........i like the video, the conversation, cutscenes, graphics and combat. NOTHING AS REVOULTIONARY and incredibly as its made out to be, but interesting and imo-well done none the less.
"...If you are unsure about the game, just wait until it releases and then get more useful feedback from friends..."
or the myriad of reviews, which will be coming out after release, or gaming sites/magazines etc...
I have saved myself many a disappointment by waiting for imput/feedback from others...but I know it's hard...it's FREAKIN' Star Wars...Bioware-style!!!
But most, if not ALL MMOs will have similar gaming mechanics...it's the nature of the beast, as they say...
And I'm definitely not looking for the MMO with the fastest combat. I prefer slow combat where you have to think what next move you do, and where combat is more than pressing 3 buttons ad infinum.
Well thanks for posting that video. I just suddenly gained an interest in this game. Awesome gameplay video that one! I wasn't interested in the least for SW-ToR but after watching that video .... I need to quit watching shit like that cause I can't really be going down to the game store and plopping my money down on another game. Money is tight these days.. *sigh* Why are you guys doing this to meeee?
So I'm watching the gameplay, and the graphics remind me of WoW... and the combat looks like WoW but even slower... and everyone(almost) is using a lightsaber...
I don't get why everyone is dying to play this.. I mean I wanted to but after seeing the gameplay, doesn't it look somewhat boring? I'm not bashing the game or anything since I've been wanting to play it myself and trying to keep up with some news/updates on it. But it now does look like a Sci-Fi-WoW-With-Lightsabers to me.. even the laser show looks stupid to me.. ugh
i really wanted to stop reading after "and everyone (almost) is using lightsabre. ummm......lol....dude this is star wars not lost in space online mmmmk. if features like most users having lightsabres bugs you and your not star wars fan why in the heck did you even want the game before. and not sure what your watching but gameplay is not slower then WoW. really you sound like your trolling. bashing game that didn't seem to fit you before they even made it.
I feel a lot of that is probably the fault of insecure revenge posting. Which would be a result of there being quite a few instances of people who come to the TOR section only to put down TOR and praise GW2. It's died down somewhat over the past few months.
That said, we see this with every release window that has more than one game. It's really no different than the Xbox vs PS3 crap that has gone on for years. Which is why it doesn't surprise me.
The thing is what you just said is also a result of that kind of mentality, as you're viewing someone you see in one section posting as a "fan", rather than someone who just happens to frequent MMORPG.com and follows the popular trending topics, no matter which game they happen to be about. The opinions people express typcially should be on a case by case basis, not some over-reaching agenda.
I can list every critique I've made about GW2 in a very short list.
A. Mounts being replaced with insta travel. (not my playstyle)
B. no world PVP in the traditional sense, (haven't seen WvWvW in action as of yet and it's not a persistent feature). (not my playstyle)
C. PVP being server vs server rather than living with your enemies. (not my play style)
D. Concerns over the B2p structure.
And yet I've been called out as a TOR fan and Gw2 detractor. Which I was neither ( I can't really say how I feel about TOR now . Point is how can you be a fan or hater of something you haven't played?
Because of this us vs them mentality gamers have, it doesn't matter what you actually think, all that matters is the side you're "supposed" to belong to. I'll never understand this mentality as I like games, that's plural, I'd gain nothing from only wanting one game.
To futher expand on this, something I will never ever understand is the 'Something vs Something else'.
Heck, GW1 had it when it came out, GW1 vs WoW!!!!
Which was really dumb since a lot of the GW1 players also had a WoW sub like myself.
I don't see anything different with GW2 vs SWTOR.
I'll have both just like I have both Xbox360 and PS3.
Just like I'll play COD:MW3 and BF3.
Just like I'll play GOW3 and Resistance3.
Is it wrong that I like both 'HEAT' and 'The Godfather'?
You and I both...
I'll play Dark Souls, Skyrim, TOR, GW2, BF3, COD3, Archeage and whatever it gets pit against by fans (as long as it interests me).
The whole ideal of one game to rule them all, is as much a fable as the LOTRO trilogy. No game does everything it does better than everyone else. It would take longer than a decade to craete such a game, which is why no one has done it.

The graphics are nothing like WoW, if anything I think they went for the Clone Wars cartoon look.
Also, while it is fully voice acted and that is different, I don't remember Bioware ever saying they were re-inventing the wheel with this game. It's not like they said they were going to redefine what an MMO was or anything. So of course it will remind people of other MMO games because they aren't trying to re-invite the genre.
Wait a a month or so before release when the NDA is lifted and the beta testers *ahem* can really start talking about the game. Then you will get all the info you need on it.
With all the information about this game, what really surprising to me is not that it is (arguably) "WoW with lightsabers", but that people are surprised at this. I mean, videos of this have been out for a long time. So have feature lists. I mean it's been like 3 years since the BioWare top dogs actually said themselves that they're using WoW as their model for the game.
There is no conspiracy, not like BioWare is hiding the WoW-likeness, i think they're quite proud of it and looking to cash in on it. I think they see being "similar to the most commercially successful MMO ever" as a compliment more than a criticism.
Anyhow, yeah, similar to WoW, with lightsabers. Old news.

I'm glad you haters don't like it. That alone makes me want this game even more. It might even mean we won't have to put up with your shenanigans in the game, crosses fingers. The more you guys whine and cry, the more warm and fuzzy I feel inside.
How am I a hater when I've already said I wanted to play it?
and @quentin405 yeah sorry lol don't worry. whenever I do browse this forum I do see alot of people trying to flame each other, so it's just hard to tell anymore since everyone calls everyone a troll(just look at this thread, apparently i'm a hater of a game I've wanted to play since it has been in dev). i'll probably still play it; maybe i just need to see better gameplay videos. i remember I didn't really like rift from some videos but i played it and did like it(although i quit cuz my laptop sucked lol).
it's good you're playing with so many people you know, damn haha
That's just how some people are on this site. Can't take it personally.
You could be in-game, on a level capped player wearing gear that clearly shows you've played a lot and done a lot in the game. You could have your character waving at the screen saying "Hello everyone on mmorpg.com!", and then post it here.
You could post here daily talking about how much you enjoy the game.
Regardless, as soon as you say anything even remotely critical of the game, there are a handful of ridiculously protective people who will immediately say you're trolling and probably don't even play the game, etc. etc.
That's just the nature of the beast here... for any MMO featured on this site.
There are some people who are just 100% intolerant of any opinion that differs from their own, especially if it's a negative one about a game they like.

I don't know what to tell ya.. either play it or don't. Yea it follows a pretty standard MMO model (notice the MMO not WOW lmao) I personally think the graphics are pretty sweet (my daughter and I being a fan of the cartoon, its almost the same artstyle)
I can't tell if your seriously a dissapointed star wars fan or just a really bad troll. watch a different video i guess.. I cant think of ANY MMO (notice i didnt say WOW there, seeing as wow is 1 of 827480273408735807380573 similar games and by NO MEANS was the first)
ANY ANY ANY MMO video that is exciting or appealing.. the only way to really get immersed in an mmo is to be playing.. I think CoD videos are fun to watch, or BF3 videos.. Do I want to watch some D-bag record himself fighting 15 rats and then turning their tails into an npc for some coppers? helllz to the no
lol, you still manage to bring up wow twice by trying to not bring it up. rofl
to the op - i think there will be an overwhelming majority of players doing jedi/sith - however, I've notice in WOW (yea.. I said it) that everyone acts like pally's and dk's of the best thing ever made, yet on my server, there are less then other classes. So maybe some players will not make them just because they know everyone else will have them? Who knows. Don't let it influence your decision though, just play what you like.
I have already pre-ordered SWTOR, but to be honest i have not really seen a video of the combat till now.
I played Rift for all of one week before i stopped and cancelled my sub. The main reason was the moronic Global Cooldowns for almost all of the skills, almost demanding macros in order to play with the rest of the "Joneses".
So i watch the video the OP posted and i see the hotbars... almost of the skills are refreshing at the same time, indicating a GCD type of combat Queue. This is worrisome for me because it really makes hotbar watching part of the game instead of just playing, that or macros become the norm, along with parsers and addons.
The whole epeen parser and demanding of the perfect builds from other players really turns me off from alot of MMOs, i have a lifetime sub with LoTRO and even if i am never paying for it i always find myself back in that game playing. I think it has to do with the lesser amount of Add-ons and Epeenery parsers.
Maybe i am just not into min/maxing like WoW and Rift players and i enjoy the game worlds more and the experiences. I do know i actually read the quests and try to explore the lore of all the MMOs i do play.
It's not meant to be revolutionary but a solid product for people whom wish to play in a Star Wars universe, with the usual Bioware story-centric focus. Me? I hate Star Wars and I loved EQ (pre-SoL) but that doesn't mean I wish to play the same style over and over again. If I enjoy the game for a couple of months, that's good enough for me - anything else is a bonus.
I suspect it will be more as I'll be casual in my hours but not in my gameplay.
The WoW comparisons are getting stale now. Far from a disparaging remark, I tend to think "Oh good. A solid, polished product that is fun and delivers from day 1 unlike that PoS DnL".

I agree . Its very difficult to be revolutionary these days whether it be solo games or mutliplayer . The problem is there is so much product on the market people come to expect a certain type of gameplay so the wise developer looks at whats gone before and improves on it .Some small minded and pathetic individuals will jump on this and call them "clones" when in actual fact the game they play and consider to be totally original has taken ideas from other games .
For example something as simple as Mana was first applied to gaming as magical energy in the rpg games of the 1980s . I can recall some sort of ghostwalking in Ultima ( although I didn't play it very long ) where the screen went black and white while you were dead . The next time I saw this idea was in Warcraft 5 years later albiet in a 3d enviroment . Escort quests. kill x number of mobs .find a certain item quest . dungeon instances. crafting and so on I saw in mmos that predate WoW . So I don't paticulary care if StarWars is similar to whats gone before as long as its fun to play and challenging .What some people call clone I call a genre .
I've yet to see Bioware put out a substandard game . They are a company with an amazing track record . They have in StarWars the largest franchise ever and the amount of money thats gone into development means this will almost certainly be a vast and polished title . The gameplay will put the role playing back into mmorpg . Pre-orders for this game have been breaking all recordings .
When its released I think we will feel a massive distrubance in the force like 11 million souls crying out and suddenly were silenced (in Azeroth ) :P .
I've expienced plenty of rudeness, stupidity, arrogance, elitism and all the rest in every MMO I've played. No game has a monopoly on bad behavior, no matter how you guys love to pin it on WoW or TOR.
When I played EQ1 from 99'-04' you rarely saw douchebaggery. But even when you did, it didn't last very long, because the community set them straight or that player got blacklisted and usually left the server for another. Hell, I just resubbed to EQ1 and I'm having a blast! First 10 minutes in I had people answering questions without smartass remarks, and high level players healing and buffing the low levels.
I never really noticed a massive difference until WoW came out in the amount of idiocy that takes place. Of course though...WoW also had like X100 the playerbase. But not hard to achieve when you make the game easy enough for any foam helmet wearing drool bib recipient to pick up and play. =P
As far as SWTOR is concerned, I am torn. I grew up with the original movies...had several of the toys (I WISH I still had because they are worth quite a bit of money.), and just loved everything about it. I was pretty excited when I first heard Bioware was making a SW's MMO. It looks interesting enough...and at least it isn't orcs and elves for the 8 billionth time. The one thing that will hold me back from it, as silly as this may seem to some...is the community. Community, or lack there of rather, KILLS an MMO for me fast. After all...MMO's are SUPPOSE to be about community. If there are 3000 players running around with names like Leetsolo, Pwn Skywalker, Boobie Fett, etc...bragging about their "1st's" and how noobish others are.... or whining that some feature sucks, or they are bored because they rushed to cap I would lose interest fast. Although I have pre-ordered it, I may just wait it out a month or so and see what reviews and player reactions are about the game and the community found in it. IDK...maybe it's because I am older I just can't STAND most of the playerbase in MMO's these days. Eh.....now where did I set my prune juice.
