Does SWTOR require Origins?

I have issues with Origins not only with it being new and unsure about privacy with it with regards to credit card information etc. I also have issues with EA's terms of service for Origins with there ability to monitor and scan your computer while using Origins and sharing info with 3rd party companys. Ive already chosen not to play Battlefield 3 because of this as it requires it to play. Will Star Wars the Old Republic require Origins? If so I wont be playing. Anyone know?

    Short answer: No

Longer answer: Only if you buy it from origins and then only to download it. If you buy the box copy from any other place: Amazon, brick and mortor stores then no, you don't even need to touch it.  Devs have said that origin will not be required to install patch or run the game. Only if you buy the game from origin. Then it depends on what you do. If you buy the box copy from origins then you'll need to use it once to buy it, but afterwords you won't.  However if you buy it digitally (not sure this option is open anymore) then you'll need to interact twice with it. Once to buy it. Once to download it.

Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.

Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.

    Short answer No: see http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=448499

Long answer: Notice Battle.net has been optional and not "needed" for months after they've realized people don't use it, Blizzard made it a requirement. Not saying this will happen here but it easily good, knowing EAs track record.

So my advice print the statements now and if they make it mandatory, ask your lawyer if you can do something about it, cause you've bought the game with the mindset you would never need Origin.

We need a MMORPG Cataclysm asap, finish the dark age of MMORPGS now!

"Everything you're bitching about is wrong. People don't have the time to invest in corpse runs, impossible zones, or long winded quests. Sometimes, they just want to pop on and play."
"Then maybe MMORPGs aren't for you."

You make an excellent point.  As you say, it may not happen but more and more this genre is getting to be a shell game.

    That's actually wrong.

The only place you "NEED" Origin is if you order online, that's it. The download, patch and everything else are done seperately.
