Question about Power Leveling

MurlockDanceMurlockDance Member Posts: 1,223

I don't have time to raid, so to give a hand to my guildies, I thought I could power level them to help their alts get to the endgame. My main character is a Conjuror. Is it possible to use this character as a PLer? It seems that almost everyone uses an SK, but my SK is really little (only in the mid-30s).

If a Conjuror is usable, what sort of template, or equipment should he have? I am guessing he'd need to convert to using an earth pet? At the moment, I've specialized him for group/solo dps with a fire pet. He kills very fast, but it seems like he has little room to screw up. I mean it's really easy to make a bad pull and die almost as quickly as he kills when it comes to heroic mobs.

the best plvlers are AE self-healing tanks  (read SK and Zerker)

warlocks are great at AE too but dont have the same selfheals

power leveling is easy for all classes (assuming they are high level)

mentoring is broke in eq2, in players favor

mentored gear is much more powerful that it should be

theres 2 ways to do it,

    - you can mentor the person

    - or you can chrono mentor several levels higher so the person will get more experience w tougher content

there are chronomages at Gfay world travel bell, those are the easiest to access for self mentoring

rough guide to level difference is  lowest player lvl x 1.33   tells you the highest level the person can group with

    example.  a level 15 should be able to group w a 20    (15 x 1.33 = 19.95)

    also of note,

private instances allows players to earn experience just by standing at zone line -- exp and loot is zonewide

public instances,  everyone needs to be somewhat near the kill to get the experience

Thanks for the reply Nadia. The info about the formula is very interesting. I didn't know there was one, I just guesstimated what the difference would be.

I guess I'll develope my earth pet and see how he takes getting hit by heroic mobs just to see if it's possible.

Otherwise I suppose a Necro would be a good option, which of course is the other thing I can do... betray my Conjuror. I think the tank pet + tainted heals + pretty much the same set of stuff that a Conjuror has to keep his pet alive could do the trick.

I don't think I'm quite brave enough to use a Warlock to PL...

personally I think a mage is better than necro for plvling others  (assuming alot of AA)

tainted heals is more effective for keeping the pet alive but conjie stoneskins are helpful too

theres the AA short term buff, Stoneskins, which wards massive damage

also AA endtalent,Runes of Geomancy, is a passive group buff that has a 10% chance to ward against damage a group member takes

ive played both classes at 90 and I prefer my conjie

Ive used both classes to solo the splitpaw crawler nest cronoed at  level 50

    http://eq2.wikia.com/wiki/Sundered_Splitpaw:_Crawler_Nest

my conjie had an easier time AEing the spiders (but it coud have been playstyle -- who knows)

I love the AoE of the conjuror. This is true. I'll see how it goes. Thanks for the tips!! I appreciate your time in giving advice.

Conjurer should be one of the best PLing classes.  It's the 2nd best AoE DPS class in the game and it can have a tank pet for any named.

When it comes to PLing, DPS is king.  YOu're usually mowing down tons of lower level mobs that can't hit you anyway or they die before they do any damage, so moar is better.

It looks like they nerfed how mentoring works and therefore PLing. Even though I still do decent damage (did a trial run at level 25) it looks like my idea might not work out so well. Thanks anyway though for the advice and time.

What seems to be the issue? I've PL'd a couple of friends in the last few weeks and it seemed to be the same as it's always been? If you really want to speed it up, you'll want to create a Recruit-a-Friend account. That part has changed, though. The RAF now needs to be right up with the group, not just in the same zone and very close in level range. You'll also want to limit the group to three tops. I've noticed it realllly drops in experience when I had more than that. I'm probably the slowest of the PL'rs out there, it takes about 1day 12h of playing time to go from 1-90.

on Live servers, RAF is insanely fast -- triple experience

but that also requires a new account to be linked to

for EQ2X, theres no RAF option

It seemed to me the last time I mentored down that I was doing far less damage than I did a couple weeks ago, and taking more damage as well. It shouldn't be... my gear has changed for the better. My spells are master level as well.

That is strange, I'm sorry to hear it's not working out for you and your buddies :( What server are you on? I could always lend a hand to PL your friends if you're on Crushbone (originally Lucan DLere).
