Best F2P out there ?

Requiem6Requiem6 Member Posts: 237

Hi,

I've come to the conclusion that I wasn't open-minded enough for gaming.

And I need to find a game to pass the time, so I won't really be playing it hardcore, so I'm mostly looking for which Free game out there would be best.

The only thing I would eliminate is any anime-style game, it's not my cup of tea. Other than that, I would prefer if there wasn't "too much" grinding, even if I don't mind some. I tried some asian game and at some point it took 1-2 week for 1 level, that's too much lol.

I know free to play game aren't the same quality as the pay to play.

I think the most important would be the class. I'm really looking for a game with interesting class. Today I tried Allods, even if all the type of mage seem pretty interesting, the rest are pretty meh.

So I'm open to any-non-anime Free to Play, suggest me which one you think it's the best and worth more your time, and why.

Thanks !

Some more information as to what type of game you're looking for would help. There are tons of free to play MMO's out there and a lot of them are worth checking out, but I wouldn't say there is an MMO that could be considered the "best". It all depends on what you're looking for.

There's definetly a "best" game for everyone out there. And that's what I'm looking to know so I can try them out.

Like I said, I'm staying open-minded. Other than that people suggest always the same game, or don't suggest anything at all, which doesn't help.

I would say I'm more looking into MMORPG, FPS (even if I don't think there's any good F2P FPS). If I want to play an RTS I'll just play Civilization or Age of Empire. But I'm open to sandbox, hack and slash too.

I prefer 3D and not-so bad graphic. But one of my favorite game was Ragnarok Online. It's just after playing is for 8 years, you search something new. I tried ALOT of game, and I made a thread some days ago and got no answer because I was "too specific".

I'm willing to give some of the game another try, but I just wonder which of them worth downloading, trying. It seem there's only LOTRO, DDO and AOC everywhere, are those the only good choice ? If so, which one is the best ? What about the other type of game ?

I would really like to discover new game too.

I'm mainly playing minecraft in my free time, so I'm looking to play something else when I take break of building huge stuff in minecraft.

To be honest, not sure what else I can add.

Of the games you've listed, I would say lotro would be the most worth while checking out. The game is fun as it has a healthy/very friendly community and lots of content. However, the game is 10 times more fun if you are a big lotr fan. If you aren't, then the game is still worth checking out, you just probably won't enjoy it as much. Worst casanario: you don't like it and a uninstall it; that's the beauty of f2p MMO's. If lotro doesn't fit your bill then I would say download a few of the main titles like Dungeons and Dragons online, Runes of magic, Perfect World, ect. until you find something you like. Guild Wars is also a great game, but that's buy to play. I do have an epic trial buddy key stored away somewhere if you're interested though ;)

I'll download LOTRO to give it another try.

And I've sent you a PM. Check it out.

I'm still open to other game suggestion. As long as it's Free to Play, not anime-like and in 3D I might try it. Just tell me more about the game.

    Thanks !

mabinogi is, if you ask me, the best F2P out there in terms of uniqueness.

it blends both  themepark and sandbox quite well.

it is anime, but i find the visuals to be pleasant when compared to most MMOs.

Perfect World is kinda anime but you may like it.  Its actually not too bad but its an Aisan game, so all the names are Hing Chow and stuff like that. But otherwise, as a game to take your mind off things and that is F2P, its pretty nice.

I played PW / FW, but at a certain level is just way too much grind for me.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

    Still open to something else.

Definitely Lotro is worth a shot and imo the best Freemium model out.

Quality game that gives you a very good amount of pure free content.  Just by playing the game up to lvl 30 you will unlock plenty of turbine points.  The important part is to spend your points wisely on content packs, and if your lucky they will be on sale.  You can get a lot of this game free just by playing and finding good deals.

That's really not something you can ask someone.

The guy who says this and that game is the best ever might be the worst games you've ever played.

You're going to have to try out games for yourself, even the games everyone trashes because for all you know you might love that game.

I've played both Perfect World International and LotRO.  Both run moderately well on my outdated equipment -- 1.6Mhz Athalon with a GeForce 4 Ti 4200 -- just about as outdated as you can get.

PWI was pretty good, especially if you like solo oriented games.  The only really overbearing anime graphics was the overly large weapons.   And the cat-shops (player shops).  Possibly the best feature of this game is the writing.  Some of the quests are very deep, and reading the quest text is rewarding in itself.  The game's F2P model is a bit overbearing.  Yes, you can progress forever without using the cash shop, but there are some definite advantages to using it.  The cash shop is kept up with weekly updates and specials, and if you like cosmetic outfits, this is your game.  They do aggressively push the cash shop in-game, which was a bit annoying.   I gave up (at level 50) when I got into the daily quests.  These were all in high lag areas, with many, many people around.

LotRO has a great basis in the Tolkien lore.  This game isn't nearly as magic-oriented as most other MMORPGs.  That fits my preferences more closely than the average 'Wizard = portable nuking machine' model of other games.  The combat and crafting systems are pretty good.  The F2P model is about the best I've found for a converted game.  The entire cash shop runs on TPs, which can be earned in game or via cash.  I've not paid anything at all, but have earned over 1,000 TPs in game in about 2 months of play.  The cash shop gets updated about 2x a month, mostly with special prices.  SInce I've been playing, I don't think that many new items have been added.   The TPs are definitely necessary in order to access some content, including expansions and quest packs.  I'm still playing this game, and will continue to do so for the forseeable future.

Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.

Lord of the Rings Online by far.  Some claim it's buy2win since you can increase stats with scrolls, but you can buy those scrolls with TP you gain in the game anyways.  Also the difference between 10-15 in a stat at level 50 isn't that big of a deal...not to mention that in order to be buy2win, there really has to be a pvp environment, and lotro really doesn't have any pvp, so you're not really winning at anything if you buy the scrolls lol.  You can kill monster players quicker in the ettenmoors, but any level 50, even those poorly equipped can kill any rank upto about 4-5 pretty easy, except maybe warg.  I've heard rumors of people saying the community ignores f2p players, but on Landroval, the only reason you'll be ignored by anyone is if they're RPing and you're not.  It's a friendly server imho.  I spend 99% of my time helping others with my 75s.  Although with Isengard that's changed a little bit, but I still help others alot.

Well I'm here to find and try new game. I just want people opinion about which F2P they find to be the best so I can try it.

I downloaded LOTRO, I'm still low level, didn't play "that much".

I made a Dwarft Guardian on the Brandywine server. Level 5-10ish right now.

Try City of Heroes.  Play as a hero or villain. Choose your super powers etc. There's flight and superspeed as well as you progress. It recently became free to play and its great fun. Fantastic character design and a lot of content for people that enjoy to play in groups. Missions & Instances etc scale in difficulty depending on how many players are in the group and people of any level can play with each other via the sidekick/exemplar system. For example if you are level 2 and you join a group with level 50, you are boosted up to level 50 for the duration of grouping. Although as you learn new  as you level, you'll be at a diadvantage.

Perfectly playable if you perefer soloing today, and it really doesn't require any kind of dedication.

I've played most subscription and F2P games and City of Heroes is probably the second best game I've played. Lotro is pretty good but like a lot of people, I found the community to be quite poor and imo have their heads up their asses.

I hope to see you in the game. And also, even if you live in Europe like me, I reccommend playing on the NA servers. It's a lot more lively.

Also, they're currently giving away a free 30 Day Jet-Pack to all players, old and new. http://www.mmorpg.com/giveaways.cfm/offer/295/City-of-Heroes-Freedom-Free-30-Day-Jet-Pack-Gift-Keys-North-America.html

I tried Champion Online and it wasn't my cup of tea. Who would you compare City of Heroes compared to Champion Online ?

And the "Free to play" section seem REALLY limited compared to premium and VIP. I might give it a try but, it just bother me a little bit, if I will really have alot of option and stuff.

So far LOTRO is ok, a little bit boring since I haven't see anyone and that it isn't all the clear. But I'll continu playing a bit more.

I didn't like Champions Online either. It's completely different. Try CoH and if you don't like it, DCUO is becoming FTP at the end of this month and I can gurantee thats a great game.

For the best F2P you might want to check out Iron Realms, they make really in-depth rpg games that let you customize many aspects of your character. The PvP is pretty amazing too, lots of ways to finish your opponent

  • BlackUhuruBlackUhuru Member Posts: 770

Runes of Magic is the best one so far, looks like LOTRO but has better features and plays better.

I'd say DDO, Heroes of Thessalonica or Dragona... DDO is its own unique experience, while HoT is like your average mmo like runes of magic, or wow. Dragona on the otherhand is like Aion. So there's 3 "different" mmo's with really nice quality in them.

the best way to kill a troll is to FLAME ON! ...or with acid...
