F2P and Western Resistance

DauntisDauntis Member UncommonPosts: 600

Is it that western gamers are against the pay model or that the F2P game options we are given are pretty rancid? We are also now given the perception that games that go from sub to F2P do so because they were failing, which is true.

I don't think western gamers would be resistant to a F2P model for a game that was AAA quality and not pay to win,  just my 2 cents.

    I think it's a cultural thing.

There are a lot of people in the western culture that simply don't like the idea of playing a game where there are mechanics intentionally designed to create problems so that solutions to said problems can be sold in the item mall. Such as designing content so that players have to spend a lot of time running around, and then sellnig fast travel options in the item mall. Or making leveling extremely slow and tedious, and then selling XP potions in the item mall.

And then there's the F2P games with pay to win... self explanatory.

A lot of people in western culture just want to be able to pay a flat upfront fee so they can just play the game without having to constantly questinon and worry about whether or not it's worth it to make additional purchases within the game.

At least, those are the reasons why I personally dislike F2P games, and I seem to notice similar sentiment from others.
