Sure i do, the price ticket is twice superior while offering similar performance. However i do not seek high prices when chosing a new computer, i usually go for the highest quality/price ratio. Which is horrible with Mac's

Apple has the functionality and design sttributes that make the user experience way better than the pc. I have a high end imac with bootcamp. It is a beast. I have the pleasure of os lion, the best os on the market for everything i need for business and work,  functionality is second to none. When i want to play a windows game not supported by mac i bootcamp to windows 7.

As far as my knowledge goes people use multiple OS's on PC's as well so i do not see how this makes mac any better.

At the end you still pay twice the price for the same hardware.

Try doing that on a pc!

I know the ignorant here will flame me, but i can handle it, for those in the know apples growth in the computer market is greater than microsoft, in future years the gap will reduce and those that can afford it will be playing on apple far more than we see currently.

Marketing, that's the only reason why mac is increasing. Most people i know who have mac's don't even have them because they use applications which are better on mac's but simply because "it's apple".

    Apple computers are awesome.

    But totally overpriced.

Well you could buy their new versions of their operating system. You know the service packs Microsoft releases to correct issues and improve performance? Apple does that too but they make you buy a new OS version to get those improvements.

There is also one difference nowadays with Apple hardware and open architecture PCs. Apple sticks a chip on their motherboards that is required to be there in order to run the Apple OS. That one circuit chip is what doubles the 'cost' of Apple hardware to the consumer.

    Hey Cynic,

I'm a huge mac fan and exclusively use them for my composing as well as some artwork. In the end I don't like the windows platform.

Having said that, there aren't a huge amount of games for macs so I have a pc as a game console.

you can go to the apple website to find games for macs.

There is also macgamestore.com and insidemacgames.com.

Why pay more money to have the ability to double-boot Windows 7, when you can just buy a PC (which does essentially the same thing) for less?

Well....if you are buying a Mac, you obviously have either way too much disposable income, or just don't know the value of money (or you just want to look cool to your friends who care about those things).  I don't think having to buy extra stuff like Windows 7 is a big deal.

It's a big deal to me, as I have been building computers for twenty years.  Buying a Mac to play games is ridiculous.  But if you already have one and want to play games on it, you will have to get an emulator imo.

You don't buy a MAC for gaming.

You buy it for work or doing graphic, programing stuff, movie stuff.

PC is better than mac mainly ONLY for gaming.

Even alot of gaming compagny have their playtesting computer which is PC and working computer that are MAC.

I don't know why when someone mention MAC in a gaming forum, it ALWAYS come to which one is better. And in that, so many people don't know what they are talking about.

@OP There's most likely always some tricks to take your favorite game and make it work for MAC. Just check out some the game you want on google "for mac" and there must be some way to make it work.

But if you're most likely only gaming, I would suggest buying a PC.

If you already have a Mac, then i's a lot cheaper to spend $100 on a Windows license than $1000 on a new PC.

There is no advantage what so ever to owning a Mac over a Windows PC when you plan on gaming. People like to say Mac's have better editing software, but fail to give reasons why. If you plan on gaming on your PC, just get a Windows based one. You'll save money, get more performance, and access to more programs/games.

Also, just leaving this here: http://frontiernet.net/~190100/mac01.jpg Shows how overpriced Mac's are.

Reading this I have seen peopel posting saying the MAC os is so much better and easier to use...

I totally disagree.. i think its an boring, crappy and not exatly the easiest OS to get along with... I have been an I.T. consultant for many many years now and have had to work on Windows PCs, Linux PCs, Macs, Unix.. many more.. anyway out of them all Windows is by far the most user friendly system and can do a lot more things for the average user and high end user than the MAC OS I have never understood why people make such a fuss about apply and queue up at stores all night to get their hands on a silyl phone or new laptop or new version of an OS.. its crazy i think they must have been brainwashed.. haha

Anyway the MAC os is not really any good for gamnig as it does not have the support for it.. hardly anyone wants to spend the time developing a game for a locked down OS its hard work and a waste of money as not many people use it..

Buuuuut at the end of the day I always say each t their own adn all that we all gotta like different things otherwise the world would be a boring place.

Macs does not have enough of a market share for many companies to care. The few that have the sense to tap that market get a lot of gamers. If you buy a Mac you buy it to WORK not to PLAY. I also don't see a point in buying an Apple desktop. Their other devices are great though.

    and...

I am very unhappy with my macbook pro. It never asks me stupid questions. Never having to restart it sucks. Never locking up also sucks. Lack of selection when it comes to viruses again really sucks. i-everything stinks and I don't care for my ability to do everything except game. Even the quality of the laptop itself is a joke. Who wants a powercable that pulls out of a computer with ease and is near impossible to break because of it?

Nothing I hate more though then the touchpad. The touchpad is so bad that most of the time I don't use a mouse because it is actually faster. I have family members that used to hate trying to watch what I was doing so they could learn. Now with my touchpad they don't even try to keep up.

Not true. Windows is better at giving the illusion that it is more user friendly.

I do in home computer repair and I would nearly never have any work if everyone bought a mac. Mac just works, Windows works if you are good with computers and know how to do everything.

Ive had my Windows 7 PC for about two years, and in that time, it has never crashed.  The blue-screen-a-day era of Windows 95/98/ME and earlier is long since over.  Now, you can get a PC with a cheap junk power supply that will crash it a lot, but that's a problem of bad hardware, not of Windows.  System stability is not an advantage for Mac OS X.

The lack of viruses for Mac is because not enough people use it to be worth targeting.  On that basis, you could argue that Linux is more secure yet.

MacBook Pros do have good build quality, but one would sure hope so for what Apple charges.  I notice that you didn't mention performance, which is where Apple trails far behind.

Broken clocks are right twice a day. I am not exactly willing to jump up and down about the awesomeness of a Microsoft product a few years after the release of Vista.

Performance is just fine. For the majority of all computer users the only reason anyone needs any kind of performance out of a computer is gaming. I didn't buy my macbook for gaming and I wouldn't buy any other laptop for it either.

I love the "macs don't sell so no one makes virus" argument. It isn't just the Windows OS that has problems, it is the anything Microsoft that does. IE and Media Player have had so many issues over the years I don't think anyone could keep track of them all. And that is just the security issues, not the fact that the programs themselves suck as well. The 360 was also a great example of quality hardware.

Does anyone honestly think that people wanting to damage or steal other peoples data wouldn't attack a system with 6% of the OS market? An OS that no one protects or even attempts to? An OS that never has any form of virus protection? An OS more likely to be used by the rich and business types?

Most viruses require the user to do something foolish to help spread the virus. There is no better group of computer users than Mac owners for that. Mac users don't know what caution is. It is the one thing I would bet nearly every Windows computer has and no Mac does, virus/adware/spyware protection.

I would also expect to see even Linux users attacked more for the very same reasons and they have very little OS market share. It seems quality products are left alone.

So I read: "Games for Mac's", and the following happened:

    "HAHAHHAHAHAHAAHAHHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!" <----------------------------

Let's make this clear, MACs are proprietary pretentious peices of CRAP that are HORRIBLE for workflow, and can barely run ANY game regardless if they're even supported. There's a REASON MAC is NOT supported by almost every developer out there without extensive re-optimization done to handle their crap hardware. Not to mention that if something breaks in a MAC you have to send it off to get repaired/replaced, instead of replacing the hardware yourself.

My work's graphic design department BANNED MACs for a REASON, and they're not allowed anywhere on the premesis. They're simply bad for business, and they're ONLY good for VIDEO editing & MUSIC editing. Anything else has just absolutely piss poor workflow.

There is a REASON that Microsoft has been PAYING APPLE millions each year so the company can stay above their 5% market threshold so that Microsoft is NOT split up again for being a MONOLOPY. Please don't bring up another PC vs MAC debate on a forum primarily made up of PC users. You could be considered a TROLL.

I'll have to go with this.

This is why my main computer is a mac. The first mac that I purchased was in 1999 and i used it like an appliance. I turned it on, did my work and turned it off.

A year ago the hard drive finally gave way  so I had to put in a new hard drive and some sort of card because the hard drive was somewhat large.

I"ve had all sorts of weird problems and issues with my pc's. And I always hate trouble shooting them.

So the money I spent in 1999 gave me a reliable computer for 10 years until the hard drive gave out.

Oh I'm sure there are people who buy macs because they think it makes them look cool but the people I know who have macs just want to turn it on, finish their stuff and turn it off.

Now perhaps this is a 'your mileage may vary" scenario but if I had the same reliability wiht my pc's then I would never buy a mac. why buy two computers? Especially if one is a bit expensive.

But if I'm working then I need relaibility I need the machine to "just work" and I don't have time to fool around with troubleshooting.

If the machines didn't work and give good value then I wouldn't buy it.

Own some apple products and love them. My pc is windows, built it myself. If they'd let me use the operating system I'd build myself a Mac as well but I can't justify paying for one, they are grossly overpriced in my opinion. Of course I get why they don't want the builders using the OS, it would hurt the ability to charge what they charge for computers.
  • DraronDraron Member Posts: 993

Funny how some go off topic and try to justify there Mac purchase when the thread has nothing to do with the sort. On topic posts would be welcomed, though the answer to OP's question has been made clear:

    - There isn't enough market share to spend the extra effort to make a OSX version.

    - Mac's are limited in what hardware they can have, which isn't a big reason why but I can see that being a reason dev's don't see Macs as gaming PC's.

I still have two PC's , a desktop and a laptop as well as my new MAC.  I didn't really need a hate session on MAC's, my humble observations of the MAC are that  the keyboard needs 3 more buttons Home, End and Backspace, and I wish microsoft office would work the same as it does on a PC. Apart from that I have no other complaints, my MAC has never failed me, it works all the time and i have not spent anything on anti virus software. I was not trying to inspire MAC haters to come out of the woodwork.

    Most facebook games work.

    Steam has a few.

Angry Birds for free on Chrome....

I actually think on the front page of this site there's a mac gaming link or something.

Still I think installing Steam, setting it for Mac, and taking a gander at that list would be the easiest route.

I used to play MMOs like you, but then I took an arrow to the knee.

Rigggght and this would have nothing to do with the fact they are made with basically the same components in modern times as PC's but are designed and put together with elligence and thought towards software and hardware unification.

Your post gets even funnier when you mention that macs are banned from your work because they are somehow bad hardware when the three projects to code the entire human genome had to use macs because their processing capacity was so much more powerful then anything winblowz on any p'arts c'ollection could do not to mention every major and successful tv show or movie that uses special effects uses macs exclusively, including but not limited to whole companies who crank out entire movie genres.

Now that that's settled with facts, let's move on to the games aspect. It is true that hardly any games are made for macs and many times games tend to take a while to translate over but let's be factually clear about WHY that occurs. When companies sued Microsoft for monopolistic manipulation of the software markets, they left out one key element, game coding. If it weren't for Direct X being proprietary Every game would be on macs as well. So it's actually a monopoly situation that's never been challenged. Hopefully this new CEO in Apple will light a legal fire under MS's a$$
