Simple, they are making our games for profit,do not beleive one word out of their mouth about creating a "game for us".

You are not going to find one good game, yet and i have no idea how in depth Archeage will be,i somehow feel it will be cheap.NONE of the asian games even use movers or doors on their buildings,so i assume if AA follows suit,it will be a house in the world, but you instance into it.I guess it is all we can expect since poly counts do matter,no way you can have 100 houses in a viewable area with 5,0000 house items loading into the game.

Unfortunately we just don't have the capacity to make a real good game yet,so we get bits and pieces from game to game.I will probably be too old to witness the first wave of real good mmorpg's.We will need a higher quality internet and much faster PC's with alot more bandwidth.

It does bring back a memory however of a video by Epic games, showing with tricks you can create super high poly count maps and still have it playable for players. So i guess we jsut have a bunch of incompetent developers out there or they just don't want to put any effort into their games.Actually there is a lot of MAYA you tube videos showing how to lower poly counts,so yes we can have better gsaming with housing and lots of items,it is easier fro devs to give us the crap they are currently feeding us.

In the house building videos that the developers have posted you can see the players run into and back out of a house (with other players) without zoning.  They have also said that you will place your house as you please so you can form villages.  And with the right coding, it wouldnt be hard to have the houses all have their items and not be instanced.  If the houses have doors then its just a matter of "if(door shut == true) dont show stuff in house"  more or less.

But I understand your skepticism.  I think all of us who want housing are always going to be skeptical until someone can deliever.

Darkfall has housing, but you dont really build them.  As I understand you find or buy a deed, then get lucky and find an abandoned house and take it over and boom, you have a house.  No where near as awesome as some other games mentioned.

Ho come on the housing feature in DF is ridiculous, its not even funny. It is as if they put houses so they could advertise the game as having them, but that's it really, it bring pretty much nothing to the game. Same with pretty much all the so called great feature, like naval battle that are ridiculous too.

The system is really interesting to learn, just have enough skill and try next to your boat at the beginning so you can escape if it turn bad, and follow the guides on the forum. It really deserve a try. Talking about it make me want to come back. This game is an awesome sandbox, the only game that gave me back the UO feeling, and even enhanced it. And if you die, well that's really not a big deal really, you come back pretty fact in fact.

    Have you played H&H lately?

it's World 5 and they changed the lp system.  basically you have to craft/find items and put them into your "study" bank and wait for the timer to pop to get said lp.  the higher quality craft/found items, the better lp.  and the timer "pop" happens even when your offline.

though this sounds good.  it's basically made death(for the experienced player in a descent village) nothing, for since this game only asks for a email adress and not a sub fee, people can literally make dozens of "alt" accounts.  feed em the crafted/found items, and use them as thier personal griefer/thief army.

now for the brand new player, your basically Buggered.  you see when i first started in W5 it took me bout 3 weeks to get just a smidgen af lp.  but when i joined a descent sized village, i gained about twice that in the first few days.  and considerin this game has perma death, your char will be losing anywhere from 25 to 75% of stats depending on where one of your sliders are(it's a LP multiplier)

i would suggest you Not goto this game.  don't believe me.  go on over to haven and hearth's forums.  and browse the "In Congress Assembeled"  sub forum.  that's the game guild polotics forum.

I am not huge in to MMOs I have played quiet a few and enjoy them alot just work has gotten in the way.  One thing I look for in a MMO is houses, gives you that individual feeling about the game.  The first MMO i played was SWG and I thought the player houses were some of the best complete customizable on the inside, of course the house on the outside was your cookie cutter house but still inside you could do whatever you wanted.  To bad the rest of the game was falling apart.  I played Vanguard and never got far enough to own a house or a ship I did like the game but when I played it, it had a lot of problems they were still working out.  Plus SOE really pissed me off with what the did to SWG.  The only other game I played that had player houses was Ruins of Magic, in a sense it is free to play, it is ok, helped kill free time but after awhile it just got old.  Yeah sorry I wasn't any help just wanted to say HI.

Yes i did and the new skilling system is awesome. I wish any big mmo company had so much creativity to deal with game mechanism as those guys have. They pulled a mix of Eve and old style mmo skilling system and it is just awesome, and get the best from a time based skilling, with the faculty to work on it and get more or less xp/time ratio with your work. This kind of system is what many mmo from big companies as trying to get, and what so many gamer ask because they don't want macro/bot fest, but still want to be rewarded for their effort when skilling their toons. Sure some poeple still found ways to abuse this new system with alts, but its still so much better than what macroing/botting used to do. And honestly this have pretty much no relation with what the OP is asking. He is asking about house and crafting system, which both are maybe the most indepth in actual mmos, with game like wurm and few other indy games.

You might want to check out Dawntide.. i aint realyl played it much dont have the time.. but i bvelieve you have player housing in that and you can build where you want if its unclaimed land..  i think anyway.. you would need to take a proper look its in open beta so free to play at the moment.

  • ResterzResterz Member Posts: 71

I have tried Dawntide very recently.. I was disappointed though I might not have given it much of a chance. A very bland world with almost no sounds.

Minecraft, The building is endless, Not sure if you would like the combat much tho.

  • ResterzResterz Member Posts: 71

No need to suggest game's that have obviously been tried :D I love minecraft, but the problem with it is it's depth. You punch a tree down, build a house.. Then what?

  • KanesterKanester Member UncommonPosts: 375

Then you build a bigger house! XD

I too am looking for the same thing that the OP and many of us are looking for. After seeing those videos I will give V:SOH another go. I beta tested it and played it for almost a year but that was long ago.

So you can build anywhere you find a good spot or you have to build in villages or pre determined areas?

Perhaps another look! See you in game.

Haven and Hearth is a great game....except for this. I spent hours creating my own little niche, house, garden, orchard, fences etc....then one day I was out hunting for seeds and someone came along and destroyed my hearth...and guess what...no more house as I was way the hell out in no mans land and could not find my way back to it. I was crushed...so just beware it can and will be taken away from you by some douche bag. The only reason I stay far away from that game.

If you don't mind a total absence of combat: A Tale in the Desert

If you don't mind an profusion of combat: MO

If you don't mind a limited lifespan: SWG (if new subs are still possible)

If you want single player: Skyrim-- not positive about the house building, but they have had it in previous elder scrolls and they  do allow you to do the quests at a leidurely pace (or ignore them altogether)

    ok, lets break this down.

Eve?  granted, considering that skilling is now pure time based.  old style mmo skillins. . . yea i'll give you that.

What the big companies want?  can't go with you there as thier current system Breeds Alt armies out the Wazzooo.

Macro/bot fest.  the game lp system is now a hotbed for that m8.  "now i don't have to have third party program macro's.  i can just make 10 alts and "feed" them curios/crafted items.  Hurraah, now i have my own personal army."  agreed thier old system of lp was gettin macroed like it was cool, but this new system doesn't adress that it just takes out he 3rd party macro programs. this new system works for the established and ones who don't mind making 10 alts etc etc.

so much better.  m8  have you even read the forums on H&H?  look at the forums now and compare with say world 3.  no comparison.  back in world 3 death meant something to Everyone, not just your new players.

what OP is asking.  to a point I can see where your coming from.  but it's like tellin somebody who wants to see a video about cows and other assorted farm animals and such and you send them to a site where they are doing a documentry on how cows are processed in commercial slaughter houses.  man that's not Even right.  The fact is, yes H&H has what the OP wants, but it also has a ton a A-hole griefers whe will wait, yes i said wait, till you get your settlement all nice and prim, then come in a raze it to the ground, and they'll do this wothout killing you first(knock you out), so you can see all your hard earned work be destroyed right before your eyes.  then kill you and take your pants(just for you Nao)

so if anything, i'm giving the OP (imho) a valid warning of what lies down the road with H&H.
