SWTOR: EU launch date changes

KabaalKabaal Member UncommonPosts: 3,042

They're calling this a global launch but it's really just a few day change for the countries in Europe who would have had to wait until the Thurs/Fri to pick it up in stores, good news for some. It looks like red zones remain unchanged.

Does Bioware know what Global means? It means the whole world. Not North America and Europe.

faaaa I don't understand why Australia can't pre-order on origin, at least give the additional digital items to the standard version as well.

This terminology isn't used exclusively by Bioware.  It seems to be an industry standard to say "global" even when it's not.

The next question is:  What will the Euros complain about now on the official forums?  The game is technically launching globally since the devs have stated numerous times there will be no IP blocking so anyone in the world can log in and play.  Preordering and connection will be another issue...

    Cheers!

This is a total and utter outrage! The scum at Bioware have now forced me to move to Australia just so that I can bitch on their forums and I'm having to do it before Christmas .... f*** you Bioware and f*** your game which I have early access to but that's not the point!

For those apparently unhappy with our use of the word 'global' - I'll admit, it's not strictly an accurate term. It's also not unusual.

So I just followed this to twitter and saw

"@Templar1975 It doesn't change our launch territories, no - but we're testing right now in Australia."

Does that mean we are getting our own servers image Because they are testing IN Australia, not testing for Australia regions (which could just mean in NA servers etc)

Now that will turn my hatred to undying love for Bioware..........

wouldn't read to much into that. i believe he is refering to this:

AllisonBerryman General Discussion -> Game Testing: official 'invites have been sent' thread

Update! We're sending out some testing invites today. Here's the information about them:

Sent Oct. 11: California Data Center Test

This test is a small, limited-time test including testers from New Zealand and Australia. Data from this test will be used to inform decisions about the launch of the game in Oceanic regions. We currently have no updates regarding the launch of the game in these or other territories, but will provide information as it becomes available.

    • Who was invited: Testers from the USA, Canada, New Zealand and Australia

    • What was sent: California Data Center testing invites

    • Server locations: West Coast USA

    • Invite status: All invites in this batch are now sent

was probably just a poor choice of words

Don't wanna burst that bubble :), but I think the server they're testing on is US based, I could be wrong but I thought I read that. West coast to be specific.

    Back to hating :P

Oh well, at least this puts the ping down to 200ms..........

I thought they will at least be cool and put 1 or 2 servers in Australia D: I mean......it is the biggest funded launch MMO project......if they don't do it......no one will.......

Funny Frogster is the only company with a server in Australia for Runes of Magic

So I kinda have a love hate relationship with that lol

It's amazing how many "know it alls" are on these forums. I'm pretty sure bioware knows what the frack "GLOBAL" means. EU doesnt just mean England, but all other european countries. So it is a fracking global launch. These guys are educated veterans, and most of you ( not all ) are snot nosed babies playing MMO's in your bed rooms while mommy and daddy pays the bills. If you dont know what the frack your talking about then keep your mouth shut.

So you're saying launching in EUROPE makes it Global. Yep

Of course Bioware knows what Global means, and they know it isn't techincally a global launch, NA and EU add together doesn't even equate to 50% of the world land mass. I don't like it because they are using it as a catchphase and got a lot of people who won't be able to play the game excited because they saw global, only to be smack down back to reality. Yea me included.

Unless you can view perspectives from people who can't actually play the game without paying 50% extra for it, I suggest you use the grey matter before calling people "know it alls"

When they say global they mean the launch territories they have set in stone. It's multiple parts of the globe not just one area so they use the term Global. It makes sense in that it's an easier way to say we're launching in multiple territories. I sympathize with your plight, but frankly you've made it clear that you're upset about it. The problem is you've done it so much it could be considered spamming at this point. As you do it in any thread that is even remotely related to this topic.

Do any of my fellow Brits doubt companies like amazon are going to be able to fulfill even this new release date? The last post date according to the roymail is the 20th.

The 22nd was just ridiculous. I think they are in for problems even with the 20th.. considering that the 24th is a Saturday.

Nah, it'll be posted out by Amazon most likely on the 18th or 19th, games usually arrive the day before or on release day from them. Also remember that the 20th is the last garunteed day for posting, not the last day you can recieve mail on as it can be received right up to the 24th.

If the date had stayed as the 23rd i think they would have been up the proverbial creek.

I got mine from a benelux webstore, so I'm pretty happy with the change. Having it sent out on the 20th (or before?) I'm pretty sure it is going to make it to my door before christmas.

See the problem is, I don't understand why they are excluding us from the launch unless they are going to put servers in Australia. They are going to let us play the game, you can pay extra to ship the game here, yet they don't let us pre-order it on Origin or selling the game here (honestly I will buy it on Origins anyways, people tend to think Australians are very rich and jack the price here).

They said they want to deliever a quality product to everyone, yet they are letting us to play the game now with extra cost. Does that make sense to you? It doesn't to me. The two comments are almost contradictory. I'm sure they have their reasons, but I would like them to at least be honest about it. I know we probably aren't going to get any early game access, or be able to test any part of the game, a valid reason other than 'providing a quality product' when they aren't changing anything ingame for us will at least let us understand the situation. Is it the rating problem? sexual references or whatever? It would be nice to know about it.

So simply, right now they are slapping us on the back just because they can. Just imagine if you have to pay a lot more just to get into the game with no bonus.

EDIT: And yeh, thus making me angry by saying this is global launch. But no worries, I'm just gonna play other games. Like Batman :D
