Someone help me with this as I'm too damn tired to sift through the forums searching for a good answer.
Why don't we see more 3+ faction games?
Yes, we still have the multi-faction games out there like Eve Online, which allows you to create not only your own faction but to ally against or with another faction for mutual gains.
We've seen 3 faction games before but why are they not more prevailent in todays gaming environment?
Is it because they are ultimately harder to balance/code/develop?
Is it easier for todays gamers to wrap their heads around 2 choices over 3?
I yern for 3 faction games, ESPECIALLY in games which have a moderate to heavy focus in PvP. I feel it brings a little extra balance and randomness to the world where maybe the weaker of the 3 factions is the "tiebreaker".
Why do we only see light and dark?

I am still wayting for that game with 5 factions and endgame open world PvP zones (RvR)......
Where your actuall ingame choices make you and/or your guild drift to a faction..... or even drit towards another faction if for example the big bad evil guilds member start doing "Good" things...
Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)
Holy crap, you basically described Eve, lol.
Well thats not all EVE is.. and internet spaceships isnt for everyone..
But EVE is a great game. And I say that even if I gave it up a couple of months ago.. 7 years is a long time to play any one game and I just couldnt get excited about logging in any more. (What happens after 2 -6 weeks with most other games).. Funny thing... Only other game I played for a significant length of time was DAoC.. .5 years or so.. and it had 3 factions.. Hmm, makes you think.. Sure I played EQ for a year or two (I think) but that was my first real MMO.
I wish they would i realy liked Everquest pvp team server, which was 4 faction which was distinguished by colour of there names, you had the 3 small races on a team, the 3 humanish races, 3 elfs, 4 evil ones wasnt as many ogre and troll so the population was generaly around the same, with the large world and all those faction being slit between there different cities and not as much in the way of frequent travel its realy led to some fun entertaining pvp.
Because the entertainment industry rediscovered "good vs evil" thing in the late 70's (hello Star Wars) and now they are shoving our face with it incessantly. I think they even forgot that there is anything else... Just read a textbook on script writing for hollywood and have your eyes opened.
Good guys vs bad guys paradigm got so ingrained into our cultural psyche that even a US president or two had the face to use such childish expressions to justify foreign policy.
Ergo 2 factions. You can't have "good guys vs bad guys" with more than 2 factions. I mean how would the mouth-breathing audience know who to root for? Dull.
Darkfall have 3 factions according to lore Mahirim/ORKs - Alfar - Humans/Mirdain/Dwarfs but devs unfortunate have abandon the lore so we don't have any faction:(
Asherons call 2 had 3 factions and in this game it realy worked well Shadow - Order and Dominion and all had there own fort:)
But game is dead.
Im affraid i dont know any games with 3 factions?

Thought for sure Planetside was 3 faction but it's been ages since I've even mentioned that name.
How many factions did Shadowbane have? Or did they not have any? I cant remember =/
