I would prefer soemthing on the cheap i can get from steam.
would also like something that has a pet taming ability if thats at all possible. not a neccesity, just would be an added bonus.
I havent played a single player RPG in years and not sure whats good.
thank you in advance

Have you played morrowind?, you can get alot of graphical mods for it also to bring the visuals up-to-date. Also its very cheap:)
Witcher is a very good game also.
Risen is another aswesome rpg imho and has lots of freedom.
Two worlds 2, that game is huge and you can get lost in it for hours.
I would certainly recommend Mass 1 + 2 its has no pet system, but companions you control, in my opinion the best sci-fi
rpg out there.
or try Dragon Age 1, also a sublime rpg.
all of the above are made by bioware, so its not open world-ish like Oblivion. but still my preferred rpgs made in the last several years.
oh and on a side note: Two Worlds 2 amd open world rpg, surprisingly good
I played the falbes, ME1, oblivion and nvn1 and 2. should have said that, sorry.
two worlds 2 eh? i'll give it a look see
I had a blast with KOTOR 1 10 bucks on steam.
Nothing else is really popping into mind right now. Magika maybe, but never had much fun with that in SP mode.
Sent me an email if you want me to mail you some pizza rolls.
if you want Diablo style
Sacred 2 is fun and deep
eh, TW2 looked good but i dont want to spend $40 plus another 20(for DLC) for a game i wont be playing much of in a month
played KOTOR1 and 2
thank you for the reccomendations
I would second Morrowind. There are mods to make it look better and even a mod project as an overhaul. However, I found that some of the mods included in it caused some issues like crashing or not being able to sleep in the beds.
However, one could easily go down the list and test the mods to see what was causing the issue.
In any case I'm slowl making my way through morrowind. Thing is, the game has a MUCH slower pace than say oblivioin but it has a lot of depth.
Or, play oblvion. I still play it and really enjoy it.

Depends on what you like:
If you're more into choice-based, dynamic story, but still somewhat action-packed story, I'd go with a Bioware game
eg. Dragon Ages, Mass Effects, KOTOR....
If you prefer just getting out into the world, doing tons of side-quests, killing things with magic and swords and etc. etc. , I'd go with something like Oblivion, Dark Souls, or the new Elder Scrolls (coming out in less than a month)
There are plenty more out there, but those are the most well-known and quality ones I can think of. Hope this helps.
I'm really sick of the whole "There's a massive fanbase for X", or "Y would be a WoW-killer if it just had a chance".
There is no massive conspiracy waiting in the MMO playerbase.
There are no "sleeper-agent fans" waiting to convert once the X or Y is unleashed on the world.
Batman: Arkham Asylum. It's £9.99 on steam atm but you just missed it being in the sale for £5, you could probably get it cheaper elsewhere and just use the CD key to add it to your Steam library.
Meh thats about as long as it would last you , honestly TW2 was good at first , after the tutorial your droped into a large open savanah and its nice , but thats about as open as the game gets , the rest of the world is vastly less open and was really disapointed by the time i got to the end. Good game, decent story but bad world design in the end. If i was gonna pay something close to that id go for Witcher 2 , still not a huge open world game like oblivion really, but much better of an rpg imo than tw2 was, i would love to see a better open world rpg made on the tw2 engine , it looked/ran great.
I would look for Risen or Arcania ( gothic 4) or if your looking for more of a group based single player rpg , id check out the Drakensang series, they are good games .
I"ll recommend The Witcher 1 if you haven't played it yet, great rpg with a good story.I believe is just 9.99 on Steam.
Fallout 3 or New Vegas are very good as well if you are into post apocalyptic rpg's.
I agree
If i was you i would get Scared 2
It is a great rpg with a amazing story and depth
Playing: Single player games |
Awaiting: Wild Star |Blade & Soul | The Repopulation | The Elder Scrolls online | ArcheAge | Firefall | Survarium | Bless | Black Desert |
Played: Guild Wars | Diablo 3 |The War Z | Runescape |World of Warcraft |Combat Arms |Perfect World | Rift | Fiesta | DC universe online | Aion | Age of Conan |Allods | Vindictus | The Secret World | Forge | Battle of the Immortals | Global Agenda| Cabal Online | Tera |
My list of RPGs you can't go wrong with:
If you're looking for story:
Mass Effect 1
Mass Effect 2
Batman Arkham Asylum
Batman Arkham City <= what I'm playing right now, SO good.
The Witcher 2 (or 1, but I felt 1 had a decent story but subpar gameplay)
Fallout 3 (these two are more free roaming, lots of mods but have a start to finish story and the games have an ending.)
Fallout New Vegas
Fable (the fable series is very short-lived as far as content, but it has a great story and some interesting aspects)
Fable 2
Fable 3
If you want open world gameplay with more of an open ended gameplay
Morrowind
Oblivion
Mount & Blade (any of them really)
Terraria (more of a 2D building simulation/survival kind of game but still an RPG)
What was omitted:
Two Worlds 1 and 2
The Gothic Series.
Both games were decent in some areas but overall, just didn't have any lasting appeal nor did the story catch me.
thank you all. think i'll give morrowind and some of the mods for it a try
