Pandas and Pets, why are people really upset

BladestromBladestrom Member UncommonPosts: 5,001

Rather than issues over likability of the panda race the idea of pet battling, I think  the real underlying issue with this expansion is that there is just nothing epic or dramatic about it. There are some bits that some will like, but its a hodge podge of tweaks and changes.  TBC had the epic questlines and raiding, WOTLK had the Lich king and associated storylines, Cata had the world breakup.  This expansion has an oriental theme as their headline feature, followed up with lots of other stuff and things.  Also, compare that to what GW2/Archage/TOR are bringing - thats what it is competing with.  So maybe the ninja pandas are taking the brunt of this dissapointment unfairly.

rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar

Now playing GW2, AOW 3, ESO, LOTR, Elite D

What "epic and dramatic" stories (edit: or theme) are TOR and GW2 bringing? Off the top of my head, I can't think of anything too different from the Pandaren storyline, which we've yet to hear all of. :/

    Sarcasm is not a crime!

A galactic war isnt epic enough? As for GW2, open world live dynamic dragon attacks?

This is my first time speaking on the Panda-thing, because I've been convincing myself it's a joke.

This is a terrible, terrible, pandering move towards the Asian demographic that will not only put a boot to the ass of it's entire Western audience, it's going to offend every Chinese player out there. "So this is what Americans think of us? Kung Fu Panda!?". Seriously, every time I see a screenie I can only conjure thoughts of Perfect World, and that game already runs shit over there - why butt in?! WoW is surely doing so well in China because it's NOT like PW and the thousands of other games they push out yearly.

Blizzard blew it, and BIG. People are trying to put this in whatever light they feel suits their interests (that is, all the fanbois and WoW-haters out there), but the simple fact remains that both the Western and Eastern audiences SHOULD be offended by this. Unbelievable....

I figured that Night-elves had enough of an Eastern theme going on, but now I guess they are setting out to prove they have no idea how to respect the cultures they are now biting.

Well, the MoP is about the war between the horde and alliance. They decided not to have some poster dragon as the main thing in this expansion. no. It's about the discovery of a forgotten continent, and the horde and alliances fight over it's resources to aid them in their never ending war.

BC, Wotlk, and Cata were just save the world ordeal side story stuff. The real conflict has always been Horde and Alliance. I'ts Warcraft's pop culture element. "FOR THE HORDE". It's the players identity and they are going to continue that.

I think the expansion after MoP might go back to some more dragon aspect, and they really need to tell more stuff in Outland... everyone is wondering about, Turalyon as well as Alleria... These two significant characters, we have no idea about.

Segaras is barely mentioned. He is basically satan himself. If they wanted they could go on for many more expansions.

Metzen promised in the lore panel, that Varian would have a lot of things happening to him, that would make people like him. We will see...

I have to admit, I was at Blizzcon and the mood wasn't exciting when they announced Panda Land.  People were joking beforehand stating "...there's no way they would release Pandas..." ... "... gimme a break... maybe a new class, but no Pandas... long-running joke.... blah, blah, blah..."

Sure enough = Pandas  ->  Ooohs and Ahhhs?  Nope... kinda stale...

Diablo 3 and SC2: HotS had a much larger outcry from the fans.  Wow's thunder is clearly dying, and they have run out of interesting lore.  Chris Metzen is trying to say Pandas are "no joke" and they are hardcore, etc. etc...

Brass Tax -- Pandas aren't Epic... Lich King = Epic.... Destroy the World w/ a big Dragon = Epic

Send me to Chinese Panda land?  Not so epic...  Yeah, it looks pretty, but so does a rainbow.  Interestingly enough, I believe both will fade just as quickly.

WHAT'S THEIR ANSWER???  Guarantee revenue with a 1-year model to keep $$$ high (thank you Activision).  "Sure... give 'em Diablo 3 as a bonus.  We'll make additional $$$ off the Real-Money AH anyways when we tax everything."

If I want to play Pokemon, I'll go buy it on one of Nintendo's systems.  Sadly enough, WoW has been losing steam for sometime now, and the light at the end of the tunnel may be fast approaching.

SWTOR and GW2, not to mention the other power houses coming in the next year or 2 will kill WoW...... HOWEVER.....!!!!!

Right before that last nail is pounded into WoW's Coffin... they will unleash the birth of TITAN.

Then Blizzard will be the underdog once more trying to de-throne SWTOR and GW2.... in an epic battle for supremacy.  Then the Earth explodes.
