Pandas are awesome, and I am sure this will be a great expansion.

Give it a chance before you knock it!

.... I wouldn't have minded but the fact both sides get them just makes this, well, dumb. Give alliance the Panderans and give the horde the Naga or Murlocks.

No give Horde the pandaren and Alliance Naga. I'm sick of alliance always getting a race with little lore in comparison to Horde.

I think the pandaren are not much more ridicilous than the other animal-humanoid-hybrids in wow, and there's a lot of them. Feels like it's more an issue of "it's cool to hate on wow since I dont play it anymore" thing. Just like the pet-battle system, some people are screaming how they hate it because it's pokemon, but if pokemon was never invented and they would have just introduced a system where they can cockfight with pets it would have been propably the most awesome thing ever. "It's cool to hate wow because I dont play it anymore" is a years old habit and that's what I think this stuff is mostly because most of it is not explained in any other way than "insert issue here" LOL IS THIS WHERE WE HAVE COME HATE HATE HATE. No reasoning, mostly.

Turn the colour of pandas to grey and they become grizzlybears, all of a sudden they are awesome. If you dont believe me, go to Zoo, climb over panda fence and find out how cuddly they are behind that colour.

No I'm not defending WoW, I havent played it in a long time, and wont play this expansion, I'm just not interested in it anymore, I just cant come up with anything to hate it besides the boredom and recycled content.

Dont take me wrong, I understand there are a lot of people who really do hate pandas, not just this many. "But it's april's fools" yeah but it has some actual lore in warcraft, WoW is full of jokes, comedy and shit pulled from ass yet this blows the crap vulcano, who knows.

Warcraft lore stopped being serious VERY shortly after the release of WoW, that's propably the biggest reason why I dont understand this hate the latest expansion gets, the first expansion after the original game to ACTUALLY ADD MORE WAYS TO PLAY THE GAME, the first time, the game gets something actually new besides the textures updates and a class. First time since "vanilla". :)

Pandas are cute and cuddly. Now make this 8 year old game f2p like it should be and I'll buy the Panda content. What I won't do is continue to pay a monthly sub to repeat dailies once I've played through all the "new" xpac content.

I find the new Panda race to be hilarious... And the final nail in the coffin... I will finally, 100% not re-sub  to WoW ever again in my life. Feels pretty good to say that actually, considering a few next-gen mmo's emerging finally seem to be breaking the WoW-mould!

*yawn* ...     really, Blizz?    You're dragging this whole thing out.       Just hurry up and finish "Titan" so everyone above the age of 12 can finally leave WoW and continue to give you more money than you know what to do with.

Taking far too long with Titan.  You [Blizzard] know damn well you can drop a TURD in a box if you wanted to, and MILLIONS of your WoW population will buy it.      For the same reason they/we have bought other expansions and "come back" -- "well, let's see what they did."   "well, It's Blizzard, so it will be a good game."    "well... I like shiny new things"    etc etc etc

    etc

    etc

    etc

btw the best and funny thing is your character is a panda and you ride a pnda as a mount, thats epic fail, they are making of WoW comedy like dumb and dumber, next thing they should implement is Mr Bean or Jim carry lol

I believe it is the perfect example of what is wrong with the MMO genre's playerbase.

For how many years have players of WoW been asking for the  Pandaren?  BC, LK, Cata... they've been asking for them.

    Now they're getting them and...

    ...outrage.

Developers should never give players what they want...it never works out well.

I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?

Some players asking for something doesn't mean everyone wants it. The people complaining are a different segment of the playerbase that thinks it's a terrible idea.

Personally, I'm one of the people that thinks it's a bad addition to the game. The inclusion of Pandaren as a playable race, along with the pokemon battle system, the continued dumbing down of character customization (talent nerfs), has convinced me to steer clear from WoW, where I had previously always come back for each prior expansion.

  • OgreRaperOgreRaper Member Posts: 376

Prior to the announcement of this expansion, when I thought about what race I wanted to be playable in WoW, Pandaren were always at the top of the list. So needless to say, I'm very excited for Mists of Pandaria.  image

I agree with you other than the highlighted portion.

The talent change is very unique imo and better than the prior talent nerfs they've gone through over the years.   TBH, it really seems like the players will have more customization over their characters.    No more sticking to the abilities available in the tree of their choosing, but instead, choosing any ability/skill from any 'tree' to let them decide how to play.    There will be classes encountering other classes and not knowing immediately what to expect, as they may have built a "Frost/fire/arcane/frost/frost/arcane/fire Mage" instead of "frost mage" or "fire mage" or "arcane mage" - we all know that regardless of talent points, the fotm rule only made the choices come down to that before hand.     I really do think this new system is an improvement.

Ultimately, imo, this expansion is rather pathetic, and doesn't even try to really hide that.    The WoW-content engine ran out of steam after BC, and everything following was shallow, nonthrilling gimics.

But I still stand by the new talent system as a welcome-improvement for those that were sick of cookie cutting.

Eh, if you ignore all the generic hate posts, you'll see a better representation of what people actually think. Ignore any posts with "nail in the coffin," "kung-fu," "really blizz?," or various other sensationalist rhetoric, and you'll see the response to the expansion to be surprisingly positive.

This type of crap happens no matter what Blizzard does, but invariably the "hated" features become a smashing success. Trust what history and common sense tells us, not a bunch of "mature" players complaining about their "video game" not being "mature." :P

I will admit i hate blizzard. Not becuase i just started the hate for them. mainly because i have been there from the start to cata, and have watched all this goody goody cartoonish crap take over the game. the influx of idiots in the game was merly a result of WOW being the pop culture phenomena  it is. but thats not the real problem while people hate this new  xpac.

Blizzard since it's beginning would never listen to the suggestion threads. they spent a great amount of time defending the changes (Nerfs) they make to the game instead of listening to some really amazing ideas the fans have. Demon Hunter? Pirate expansion? emerald dream and the old gods.

This expansion would have been a great way to finish the old gods lore leading up to the very last xpac in which we could have finally defeated sargeras and the burning legion.

Would have been a grand finale. but instead all those ideas get replaced with more silly shit that appeals to children and little asian girls. To top it off to prepare for the influx of more little kids, they add pokemon battles, and start the great dumbing down of mechanics. it's all very sad really. i don't know if Titan has them all tied up and they had to hire cheap labor to make this xpac?

WOW has been about lore. epic battles and a way to leading up to the grand finale between the buring legion and the ultimate defeat of sargeras and his burning legions.

At the very least they could have put in some effort. but all players will get is more of the same overhauls of talents and the nerfing of game mechanics. plus PVP needed a major overhaul and it never gets it.

So me and my WOW friends wished this xpac would have been something epic leading to the last xpac were all these years we finally fight the greatest threat any world has know!..

Instead we get a bunch of pussy assed pandas and pokemon crap.

Actually neutral would have been fun. They wouldn't be apart of any factions and thus not haunt either capital as no one would like them. Unfortunately they aren't neutral like the swiss were. They are the worst kind of race which has no loyalty and fights against and for both sides.

Mercenaries are not neutral they're just without loyalty and honor. When you're neutral you don't get involved.

Instead of being a Debbie Downer I'm trying to change my attitude.

I won't judge something, no matter how radical it may sound, until I've tried it for myself. I may be pleasantly surprised. If not, it's not the end of the world and I'll carry on playing something else.

    I'll follow the Pandamonium closely.

I'll just copy and paste my previous post here, because I really want people to see how horrible Blizzard is compared to other games. Pandas? Oh please.

GW2 for example would never do this to us. They gave us Asura, which are clearly badass! Observe:

So epic. Try giving candy to that little girl. She'll rip out your eyeball. And that defensive posture she's in; no homework for her god damnit.

And what about TERA? More like TEARs, because all the 8 year olds can't have their cute, cuddly bear race. TERA knows what the mature, masculine hardcore players want:

Damn, don't you just shiver in fear when you see that Popori dude? It's like I'm in a stare-down with a savage wolf and if I back down, his pack will devour me. You try scritching his belly, and you'll end up dead mang. Dead.

And what about the Elins? The Elins aren't your average five year old girls. They'll shin-kick you into oblivion if you so much as mutter "immature" around these rock'em sock'em death machines:

That's no frisbee on her back, I'll tell you that.

Everquest knows better than anyone what players want. Frogloks are the epitome of Harley-driving, tattoo-wearing hardcore badassery. My proof?

It's like Ninja Turtles meets The Incredible Hulk.

Ogres? Yeah baby, the testosterone pumping out of a player of one of these is like a visible wall of masculinity. We're not just talking Mature, we're talking Bi-Winning Mature:

The asura actually look less silly and more suitable for a fantasy mmorpg setting, and i'm not saying this because i'm a GW2 fan because honestly i couldn't care less about it.

And about the rest, some look sillier (little girl and ironically a panda) others somewhat on the same level and the frogs actually less ridiculous. But you know, does this matter? No. Because i don't play any of those games and am not planning to.

Oh and i can think of one reason why blizzard could be seen as worse by some. They "backstabbed" those who hate the pandaren. They started as a joke and scrapped from TBC , obviously these two events sent a message: no panda's in this game.

The Asura have huge eyes and are small because that's better for battle, not because they're meant to be cute. Weren't you listening? People accept them because not only are they insanely badass, but because people are used to gnomes being a race, and those pink pigtails on gnomes are like a warning sign: Be wary all ye who mess with our crap.

The Frogloks are clearly not cute at all; frogs aren't cute! If you see a Froglok crossing a road somewhere, he wouldn't be avoiding cars, he'd be snorting them like cocaine. So badass.

All of those are far more epic than some lousy panda. Pit a Pandaren against an Elin and the Pandaren would probably break down into tears when the Elin denies him his tea party or something. So lame.

And yes, it does matter. Blizzard is clearly jumping not just a single shark, but thousands of sharks and several other aquatic species. Sharks with laser beams and battle scars. Sharks with scowls that'll drop a fully grown man from twenty yards.

It's the principle of the thing. People requested Pandaren, not some Panda race that looks exactly like them. People are in an outrage and I'm inclined to agree. I'm tempted to post things like "really blizz?" and "kung-fu panda lol" and "wow is dead" to prove my point, and the only reason I don't is because nobody can come up with an argument against those masterpieces of prose. Let them have their discussions, I've always said.

  • goblagobla Member UncommonPosts: 1,412

Posted this earlier in another panda thread, I'll just leave it here:

There's plenty of people out there who don't give a rat's ass about whether or not the videogame they play is considered mature by the good folks over here at MMORPG.com. They don't need a videogame to validate their maturity. They feel plenty comfortable in their adult status even when playing with dolls, petting pink kittens or playing as a panda in a cartoony videogame. They've realised that maturity is about a lot more then outward appearances and have learned that if you spend all your time looking mature it leaves very little time to act mature.

See, to most actual adults this is just a videogame. It's already something that isn't serious and of no huge importance. Whether or not it has pandas doesn't change that. But pandas are cute, so for them the choice is between a silly game and a cute & silly game, guess which one they pick?

Pandas are aimed at your normal WoW player who already see it as a silly game that's nevertheless a good way to waste time and relax. They don't need to play as big burly US marines to validate their maturity. They're just playing to have fun, pandas are fun as well so they fit right in.

    We are the bunny.
