Maybe you are right in the end and Im just getting to the point I want a little more drama (the good kind) and a more serious take on my gaming.  So maybe Swtor or GW2 is more for me.

Yeah, I'm probably not going to return either, except maybe with a friend's account to play a few things. It's not the silliness that bothers me, just the level of entertainment I get from Blizzards implementation of an MMORPG.

    So... Hobbits anybody?

Little a meter tall guys with furry feet that are good just for farming, brewing and dancing? Basically English country bumpkins in your High Fantasy world filled with dragons, high elves, knights etc?

Oh yes, the characters in the lord of the rings kick some serious ass, but they are definitely NOT your average Hobbit are they?

They also live isolated from the world, know nothing of the external world and have their unique, very food and drink oriented culture so much so that an Hobbit Brewmaster is a cheerished member of society.

And their difference from Pandarens? well, they do not know Kung Fu.

Yes.  And the timing was perfect to rain on SW:TOR's media hype generation.  A publicity stunt to prove they are still a (the) major player in the industry.

Heh. Bioware is working on one of the most well known and respected IPs in the world and Blizzard will probably still make more money on Pandas. That kind of puts things into perspective. It's an odd perspective and paints Blizzard a little evil, but it's a perspective none the less.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

So epic. Try giving candy to that little girl. She'll rip out your eyeball. And that defensive posture she's in; no homework for her god damnit.

And what about TERA? More like TEARs, because all the 8 year olds can't have their cute, cuddly bear race. TERA knows what the mature, masculine hardcore players want:

Damn, don't you just shiver in fear when you see that Popori dude? It's like I'm in a stare-down with a savage wolf and if I back down, his pack will devour me. You try scritching his belly, and you'll end up dead mang. Dead.

And what about the Elins? The Elins aren't your average five year old girls. They'll shin-kick you into oblivion if you so much as mutter "immature" around these rock'em sock'em death machines:

That's no frisbee on her back, I'll tell you that.

Everquest knows better than anyone what players want. Frogloks are the epitome of Harley-driving, tattoo-wearing hardcore badassery. My proof?

It's like Ninja Turtles meets The Incredible Hulk.

Ogres? Yeah baby, the testosterone pumping out of a player of one of these is like a visible wall of masculinity. We're not just talking Mature, we're talking Bi-Winning Mature:

For how many years have players of WoW been asking for the  Pandaren?  BC, LK, Cata... they've been asking for them.

    Now they're getting them and...

    ...outrage.

Developers should never give players what they want...it never works out well.

I really believe the people asking for them are probably elated.

Meanwhile I think just as many didnt only not ask for them, but think the idea is rediculous.  And thats where the massive hate they are getting is coming from.

Im not sure the motivations for wanting them in the game, but a lot of players take their medieval fantasy game pretty seriously.   As Ive said before, if Im a Paladin riding a horse in a world filled with orcs and dragons, the last thing I expect to see is a Panda Bear walking around carrying a sword.

In the Western fantasy genre, this sort of thing doesnt generally fly.  There are gobs of fantasy books.  A huge plethora.  Ive read my share in my time.  Ive read about elves, dragons, orcs, dwarves, knights, etc etc.  But in none of those books did I ever read about walking talking Panda bears.

WoW had a pretty solid take on the Western fantasy genre, until now.   Thats really the problem.  The game had enough of that Western fantasy vibe that adding something so silly and nonsensical that doesnt fit in that traditional mold breaks the illusion.  There's no way I think I could ever be immersed in WoW after this.  If Im playing a Warrior, and Im in a valley fighting orc mobs, and I see a group of pandas run by carrying staffs and swords, that just shatters the world I was involved in.

You might see walking talking Pandas appear in some kind of fiction like The Never Ending Story.  But you would never see it in Lord of the Rings.  WoW had a good western fantasy "lord of the rings" style vibe going for it.  Not anymore.  And thats very unfortunate.

    dude/lady

you are forgetting that Warcraft is its own Fantasy IP. using your logic, Warcraft 3 wasnt fantasy since it had flying Tech, and robot mechs and stuff which WoW also has.....

Pandas are awesome!! Any furry cute race is epic win compared to boring generic ungly males or slutty females with 5% armor so it can attract the 13 year old virgins, at least pandas look cute and are not slutty xD, plus they are animal so they are epic win!

I would consider playing wow just for them xD, too bad last time i wasted 15$ on sub i got bored of the game in 30 mins in higher level bg... We need some actually good innovative game that has pandas, something that 1 mistake is lethal and there is a 4 sec cooldown teleport, now thats awesome, teleporting pandas fighting around xD

  • KingGatorKingGator Member UncommonPosts: 428

Kung fu pandas are epic fail; with that said I quite wow already so my opinion is fairly worthless here. :)

  • Drekker17Drekker17 Member Posts: 296

I'm neutral about pandaren, I don't love nor hate them, however if I had to side with one group it would be lovers, as the hate seems silly to me.

I think Pandaren will end up being a good addition to WoW, it's nice to see Asian themes show up because I'm sick of every Western MMO being European Medieval fantasy, and what a better game than WoW to put it in. WoW is a mixed fantasy, with steampunk, space, all kinds of cultures.

I don't see Pandaren as childish, I know some people do, but only adults that dislike Pandas for whatever reason or adults that can't think for themselves will stop playing because of that. Just because some people think it's childish doesn't mean it is, as some think games are childish and even more think Fantasy is childish.

In the end of the day, even if all the haters leave, WoW will do just fine and other elements of MoP will be a stronger determining factor in MoPs success, as liking or disliking Pandaren is a pure opinion.

I have to ask, just because it came to my mind...   For the Panda druids mainly, what do they look like in "Bear" form?

Pandaren can't be druids. If they could be though, I would imagine they'd just be regular pandas with a mane and a more ferocious look...much like all the other bears. I mean just imagine the Nelf bear form with round ears and panda colors.

It would be like some sort of oxymoron if Panda's could be feral druids with a "bear form".   Would definitely be hilarious, not as much as a nelf panda bear form but y'know lol

well ,cant say its a tired attemp at a race, pandaren has always been one of the races people wanted. I'm very surprised wow copy pasted Pokemon to the tooth, and i hope they get hurt in the wallet by Nintendo, a stolen idea is stolen.

I've always been under the impression that World of Warcraft has been a game that is too simplistic and touches too few heavy themes too lightly to be considered truly mature. Therefore, adding a race that has connections to "cuteness" through previous media, is not something that makes me feel like vomiting.

If someone would ask me for mature form of entertainment I could safely recommend them to watch the Boardwalk Empire or read Tranströmer, I would, however, not recommend them to play World of Warcraft.

    Pandarens = Good addition

Pandarens only expansion = why? why? why?

Death Knights were added for both the Alliance and the Horde because they're a hero class. Pandarens are not really heroes of either factions but a neutral race meant as an "easter egg" champion in the Warcraft Universe.

Ogres and Nagas IMHO should've been added first. The whole Pandaria should've been added as a portion of a bigger expansion. Players should not be able to just click on their portrait in character creation screen and start playing as Pandaren monks in the first day of going live. There should be an epic quest involved to activate Pandarens as a playable race that is not given by Mr.ObviousNPC sitting in front of you the moment you enter the game. Pandarens starts as monks and later "learn" other class proficiencies through epic quests. For example, warrior epic quests should be added if a player wants to be a Pandaren warrior etc etc...

Current playable faction races should also be given epic quests to learn how to be Monks. Keep the old talent trees for old classes and the new tree for Monks only.

Did Blizzard learn anything from the Death Knight's addition at all?

players now a days want instant gratification, so questing for a new playable race is pushing it. Its a wait and see expansion, since it is WOW it will do massively well. We dont know all of the WOW plans, they may add those races in the next expac, we just dont know.

    [Mod Edit]

A copy of pokemon?     How the hell do you figure, because for once you can do something fun with your near useless vaniety pets.    Y'know cause collecting 100 or so and are completely unable to use them was always awesome.

It's pretty damn awesome to now be able to sit in org or w/e and have my vaniety pet go and randomly attack some other dudes for the hell of it.   It's a great way to pass the time.

Panda people in game suck except to mass slaughter. You want Panda people go play EQ2 they had them 2 years ago already. Wow used to be interesting, now its just dumbing down to the lowest point possible. ie someone that can figure out how to turn on a computer andl use a mouse or joystick.

Unfortunately 80% of the people out there that use a computer still hardly know how to properly turn it on or off...   Yes it's a very small amount of people who actually know how to use one, it's quite amazing.   Yes that is coming from a guy who gives out IT support on a daily basis, it's quite sickening with how dumb people are these days.

Isn't that an oxymoron? You are working with IT support, yet you are complaining about people being dumb? I've always been under the impression that the brightest do not work with IT support, but work with actual programming or in a leading role? Correct me if I am wrong.

Ever considered that their utter lack of interest for computers makes them have a different basis upon which they draw their conclusions? Given the basis they currently have, the conclusions they draw may actually be reasonable ones.  If that's the case, it isn't a matter of stupidity, but a matter of lack of knowledge. Stupidity is connected with making erronous or far less than optimal decisions given a certain set of information; if they lack substantial information to begin with, it may not be a matter of stupidity at all.

I dislike evrything that feels kiddy or targeted for a younger audiance.

Props if you like panda's and pokemon, but i cannot be moved to like it in any way, not even with the new monk class.

No idea why they dint make Emerald Dream xpac after defeating Deathwing......

It would have been alot more logical then panda's popping out of the sky -_-

Bad judgement of Failcrawler if you ask me, he might pay a very high price for his decisions in 2012.

Well programmers and IT professionals are two completely different things.   I've been commited to this field of work since I was little, it's been a hobby and a passion of mine my entire life.  It's just a bonus that now I'm getting paid to do it while enhancing my skill, I get the best of both worlds.

Seems this expansion will be worst, at least I'll sure never buy it before long months of looking how it goes (thanks spent enough on Cata revamp).

I feel like I'm over aged for WoW as it looks like 5+ with pandas, can be wrong too, but anyhow, will not buy it & I guess soon WoW will turn f2p, they took this direction, as many other failed games.

New "adult" games like SW:TOR and GW 2 looks more fun to me and anyhow would add something better to my game playing as patch-worked WoW.

I don't hate WoW at all, more like I still love it, so it sad not to find any appeal for it anymore

try before buy, even if it's a game to avoid bad surprises.
Worst surprises for me: Aion, GW2
