So now that the server troubles are mostly resolved, I've been playing DCUO with a couple friends and really enjoying it. My character and the gameworld look great, there's lots to do, and best of all it seems (so far) to be the first *real* f2p MMO ever. I'm level 30 and it looks like f2p players have access to the entire game and there's no need to spend any money at all if you don't want.
All in all, I really want to like the game but there is ONE thing that sticks out to me every time I play now, and it is that I spend 50-90% of the time not in control of my character. Between regular CC like polymorph and iceblocks, stuns, grounding, snares, pull-to's, knock-backs, and knock-downs, many times I'll spend an entire battle just trying to cast 1 spell (playing a sorcery healer). For example, a level 21 attacked me while I was at full HP/power (and I have a complete set of blue/purple PvP gear), and I died without being able to cast a single instant heal. I was literally CC'ed the entire fight, from start to finish.
Am I doing something wrong? What am I missing? Or does every class/role have to do nothing but focus on CC-based attacks to have any effect? Yes, I am spamming Shift to break out of CC. It is basically the only button I'm using because it is the only one that does anything. Is there some stat I can raise to increase my CC resist? I saw the stat "Will" mentioned but never seen any gear with Will on it. The issue isn't even limited to PvP - I fought a PvE boss named Kilarog and I'd say 80% or more of the 15 minute fight I was CC'ed.
As I said I really want to like this game, so someone help me out and let me know what I'm doing wrong!

Yeah, CC can really be tough to fight against though I do use it to my advantage myself.
My best advice is to hit "shift shift shift shift" or whatever to "break" out of the CC then counter with your own CC and follow up combos.
Though my main guy level 30 is a Hand Blast Sorcery healer, so I typically try to stay "flying above" the melee oriented characters and shoot them with my ranged hand blast.
I also throw up the 2 AOE heal over times...the "well" and the other one...that shows up as a big square.
Then I fight near these 2 aoe heal things and it makes me very difficult to kill, but generally my attack power/killing ability isn't that great either, especially against other level 30s.
So I suggest tapping shift multiple times to break out of the CC, then holding shift and press a WASD key to "roll" away from your opponent and get ready to either start your own combos, or fly up or get out of reach and launch some ranged attacks.
It definetly can be difficult to be a healer, especially without any support/help in the instances because it seems many people just run around like a chickenw ith their head cut off and refuse to communicate.
Just take it in stride, it can be rough to be a healer!
(Edit) I just saw that you do press shift to break out of the CC. I know that you can put a point or 2 into an ability that increases your ability to resist stuns/roots by 10%, but beyond that I am not sure.
But yeah, CC is hard to fight definetly.
I am entitled to my opinions, misspellings, and grammatical errors.
I know nothing about PVP. In instances a healer should stay near the tank and controller. IF the controller is doing their part and giving you power you can at least keep you 3 healed with AOE. Let the chickens run off in the corners and die while they look for their heads.
I copy and pasted a post I put up on the DCUO beta boards over here in this forum. It should be named something like "OMG! Heal me!" The beta board post got a lot of 'likes' from others.
Once you get to a point you like your main attack skill set you can put points in other skill sets and work down them to pick up skils for areas you want to improve like Healing, Knockback or Will.
Hand Blast has good bonuses to healing both in skills and equipment pluses.
Staff can be good for ranged dps to help build up power while staying out of the main fray.
