What are your thoughts after playing the BETA? (Poll)

Hey guys, like many of you here i got the chance to have a good few days play on Star Wars the Old Republic from Sat - Tue.

My thoughts are that the game is really well polished at the moment appart from the odd graphics errors some people are getting, eg the little "Dead Pixel" in the upper left. and the whole "High or Ultra" graphics settings not really  up to par.

BUT the game isnt about the graphics, thats just a bonus. I think the best feature of the game is going to be the whole Kotor choice system we all have come to love. Having the option to choose the Light or Dark side on either team is pretty cool, but at the end of the day there is no "Gray" area and you are still with one faction or another.

They probobly should of created a third faction maybe? Since there is really only 4 classes in the whole game ( Mirror Classes). I know they have done the best a person can do to make them feel differant, but it just doesnt work.

If you've played one class, the only thing thats going to be differant is the storyline, and in some cases people are just fine with that. so am i to a certain degree but i still think they could of put a little more thought into the class design.

My final conclusion to my experience is that. I will Pre-order and play it for a while and see how things pan out for the game ( I was always going to buy it since im a Kotor fanboi). All in All though, Its BETA. even though it was just a stress test for their servers, nothing is finalized i dont think, and i think we can still see some very nice changes comming before december early release.

Here is a Poll, I would also like to hear your thoughts on your Beta Experience from the last weekend BETA .

Nice, best game ever:) Like i already said before--after i tried beta SWTOR  i can't play any other game. Every other game looks to me so empty and cheap.  Role players dream with huge worlds and cities, awesome story, very very blalanced pvp, there is no more super OP jedi or sith and you  can win in 1vs1 with any class. World graphic is just amazing , ok not like some fps but with so many details and amazing environment.  Do not forget this is beta and many more things will be optimized. Remember first days of wow or any other mmo . In fact i didnt expirience any huge problem in game and gameplay was so smooth like in wow, i got some average 57 fps on my config. O man i did never spend so much time on web because i was playing games in my free time. But now i just wait for this one

My thoughts after beta are: "meh".

But it's a meh that's based on what the game COULD and likely SHOULD have been.

If it was just another MMO by an unknown developer, I might have been more impressed. I'd probably have considered it... "pretty interesting".

But a flagship Bioware title with a 6-year development cycle?

I had a great time during my weekend beta access.  I played it semi hardcore with the time that was given and made it to level 20 with my imperial agent.

I keep telling everyone that I played it so furiously that I didnt have time to stop and take notice of anything to criticise, everything flowed for me very well indeed and the 3 days I got to play it went by in an instant and before I new it I was dancing to the countdown of the end of beta with some newbies at the starting area on Hutta where I started my journey.

Other than UI and character creation i absolutely love this game. I give it 9/10 only because its been years since EQ2 that a MMO has engrossed me fully and completely into the world, characters and story.

I gave it a 10/10 for the reason's i'll be playing which are mainly PvE, Story and dungeons/operations. I wasn't big on the PvP i've lost that PvP feel since well EQ1 TZ, DAoC, and lastly SWG. I've also become socially isolated thanks to this game I even managed to take my GF who is in the process of watching Star Wars with me for her 1st time (Classic trilogy 1st) and she was getting hooked to a degree for not being a gamer at all.

A solid 8 for me as well.  Improving that would only mean more customization/animations and Spacew Combat being taken OFF the rails (although I understand how big a project that will be, and appreciate that it IS on the Wall of Crazy)

I gave it a 10... Call me a sucker, but I was so drawn into this game to notice anything really wrong with it. It's been a while since an MMO grabbed me as well as this did. And I only played on the one class that I'm most unlikely to play when the game goes live. So I'll be pretty sold when I start a char that I want to play in all meanings of the term.

And the performance was optimal... You have to give them that. I saw very little lag in the game even with multiple players on screen, which bodes very well for the launch. Based on this stress test weekend, I'd say that ToR will probably have one of the least troublesome launches in the past few years.

thats what i gave it as well, as I said already I didnt even have time to notice anything wasnt working because the entire weekend I spent with beta was in full blown role playing mode along with some pvp.

I gave it a 5 for the same reason. too many "safe" developement decisions.  I'm still gonna play it hough.

SWTOR it brings excitment at the thought of it. I miss exploring a SW world. I was a huge fan of pre-nge SWG and was hoping some smart company would make a wonderful sandbox mmo to fill my need in mmos that only SWG has filled. Will SWTOR fill that need? Nope! Will SWTOR be a great mmo? Yes, but I did not think so my first few hours in the game.

I got a chance to play in a few of the SWTOR beta tests. My first few hours were disappointing but it was SW so I kept at it. Much like WOW it took a few day for me to start warming up to it. I did not like the art styling at first. My first minute in RIFT I was hooked. No other mmo grabbed me as fast as RIFT. I love the look of RIFT. However the more I played SWTOR the more I warmed up to the art. As an artist and college art instructor the art direction of a game is as important to me as gameplay. The days of poor graphics but great game play are over in the mmo world. You better have both.

The game play was similar as the art for me it took a bit of time to warm up to. By my third day in SWTOR I started to really like it.   At first the voice acting and cut scenes for all the quests were annoying but I discovered I felt more connected to the storyline then in most mmos I have played because of it. Again it took a bit of time to warm up to. The game was a challenge but not frustrating. The pace of the game was good. I felt I was always moving forward. I never felt like I was grinding. Now I only got 3 toons to about 20+ so it is hard to say how the long term game play will hold me. Simply put the more I played the more i liked it.  Some of my first negative impressions of SWTOR might have been due to hype and wanting another SWG experience. When I started to really play the game for what it was and not what I hoped it would be I started to enjoy it more. That can be said about any mmo first experience.

I am glad I got to play the beta. I will be pre-ordering it and I am looking forward to playing it. At this point I am not sure how long it will hold me. I played 7 years of WOW and EQ2. 2 years of LOTRO and I think SWTOR will be more of a LOTRO experience a lot of fun for a couple years but I hope it will hold me for years to come, only time will tell.

SWTOR is a great game that will impact the mmo market and other games. If at first you are not hooked give it a little time. You might find as I did that you will warm up to it and find a pretty great game that is worth the price of admission.

why do people do these polls honestly? either way  NO game really deserves a 10/10 every game has flaws in some way or another just depends on what the scale actually means.. Is 10/10 the perfect game? if so then like I said no game is perfect and this game is FAR from perfect. For what it is id give at a 6/10 which is pretty fair. But what does 6/10 mean? to me 6/10 could mean something completely differn't that anyone elses 6/10

Enjoyable game.  Room for improvement.  Worth the money.

Amazingly polished and "complete" feeling for being unreleased, and the prospect of a never-ending Bioware RPG that is also Star Wars and also a MMO is just... wow.

TC asked my THOUGHT ON THE BETA EXPERIENCE and NOT MY THOUGHTS ON THE ENTIRE GAME. And FROM WHAT I PLAYED ONE THE BETA my rating was a 8/10.

Currently Playing: SSFIV AE, SFxTekken, SWTOR, WoW. Waiting for: GW2, Resident Evil 6.

I've been bored off my rocker and 'mmo-homeless' for quite sometime now.  After quitting FFXI, I've tried everything from WoW to Rift and everything in between.  The closest I've come to a home was LotRO, Aion and a lil DCUO(but content is way to light) but certain glaring issues caused me to 'give up' on them.

The day the SWTOR CE pre-order was available for purchase I bought it.  Immediately I regretted it(was this just another planned 'smash and grab' job called a MMO for box sales?) and continually questioned if I should cancel it.  During this time I had gone back to FFXI to check out the 'new shiny abyssea fandango'.  For some horrible reason they switched how you pay for the game, with click and buy being the only real alternative(this atrocity has mostly been rectified by SE now) which caused my credit card to scream SCAM! and freeze my account until I called them to authorize the charges.

OPE! Now my pre-order is canceled because of the CC freeze.  Oh well, I was on the fence anyway so I'll just take it as a sign and say good riddance for the most part.

Fast forward to me getting a beta invite and here I am, sitting happily with two CE pre-orders(one for the wife) and probably seeming like one of the biggest SW/Bio/SWTOR fanboy there is to anyone I talk to about the game.

    *shrug*

I realize some people really hate this game and those haters would most likely call me a fanboy as well.  I hardly see myself as a fanboy considering my back story I just typed out, I'm more a convert or believer now.  To each his own but it can't stopping me from having a single second of fun with this title.

Hopefully endgame will deliver as that's the only hesitation I have about the game, like I do about any game, since I have yet to experience it.

We really need separate forums for every newly launched game. There can be the anti-<MMO> one and there can be the 'what general discussion should be' one. All the lamenting can happen together where each can find solace in like minded can't-move-on-ers leaving the rest of us to actually move forward and discuss meaningful and relevant topics.

Actually 8 classes per faction.  yes only 4 stories per faction, and thats why they did it.  But aSith assassin plays completely different then a sith sorcerer yet they haev the same inquisitor base class.

I  went out and bought the CE too once it was avaiable.  Like you most mmo's in beta had me questioning them left and right just for the fact of previous dissappointments in the genre.

However i still ruushed outand bought the CE becuase of three factors i knew would make the game at least worth buying:

    1. Its Star Wars, any halfway decent SW MMO for me is willing to sink money into.

    2. Bioware/Kotor 3 - Like BW said, this is like KOTOR 3,4,5,6,7,8, all wrapped into an mmo, and with that I bought this game

    3. Budget - yes oney isn;t everything, but with the anounced budget and backing from EA this game dev is getting I knew due to the other 2 points that this game will be at least good enough to try.

Then I played beta........And now, I know I will not be disappointed :)

I played two of the beta weekends and both times I found myself drawn into the game. I gave it an 8/10 because while a very solid game and likely one of the most polished pre-launch MMO's I've ever seen, there is still room for improvement.

Great positive: The story, this cannot be said enough.

Big Negative: the secure choices they made, from the rail shooter on space to the lack of real aliens in character choice.

This game has great potential, and just like other MMO's it will need some time to mature.

Played last weekend, had 1 crash in over 40 hours of play that alone gives it an 8 got my reinvite just now and am so excited have to ramp it up to a 10. Really enjoyed the combat, the story lines i saw were wonderful, maps take a bit of getting used to but will get used to and the companions seem very cool, well coming from Skyrim were i seem to use force shout to get them out of the doorways all the time these companions were just amazing by comparison.

  • KidonKidon Member UncommonPosts: 399

Played in the last beta weekend, till lvl 18 with a Jedi Knight as Guardian and Defence Specced, no crashs or fps drop, smooth beta, that was what i experienced, awsome game btw.

    See you on live

may the force be with you
