Alright, I'll just start by saying i've never played Planetside 1, so I never got to experience the game. But from what i've heard, it was pretty awesome. Just the concept behind it sounds amazing on a level that i've never seen before.
But enough about that, because i've never played PS1, I didn't know if there were multiple environments. So my question is will there be/do you think there will be multiple environment types in Planetside 2? The screenshots are all in a desert environment, which, while I don't mind that, can get bland after awhile. Did they have different environments in PS1? I would love to be battling on tropical islands, marching through snowy wastes, or sneaking through a lush jungle.

there is multiple eviroments in PS1, we have only seen desert contents in PS2 because it looks like they;re only showing stuff from the "Indar" content similar name to the desert content ishundar in PS1.
The devs have mentioned they're making cyssor, cyrssor is a grassland tundra content it features large open fields, limited mountains and alot of water and bridges.
there has also been mentions of searchus in the lore. which is a volcano content, it really is a massive volcano, it has bases in the heart or eye , whatever you want to call it and then basea all around the outside, while the centre and top is vermuch ddirt and rock the outskirts is very barron grassland with some forests still remaining.
But PS1 did feature, desert, grass, swamp, snow and ice. i would expect them all to make a comeback.
watch some PS1 propaganda:
SKYeXile
TRF - GM - GW2, PS2, WAR, AION, Rift, WoW, WOT....etc...
Future Crew - High Council. Planetside 1 & 2.
Yeah the devs have stated they are building multiple 8 kilometer by 8 kilometer continents for release. The initial info was that there would be only one continent, but that was wrong. I'm glad because the variety of the terrain in PS1 was one of its strong suites. Most nights you'd stay one one continent for your entire play session, then the next night it would be a completely different environment and so on. It definitely helped keep the gameplay fresh to swap around environments.
Overall my favorite were the two desert environments from what I remember.
Hey Triad. Yeah, as has been stated, there will be different environments just as there were in PS1. The question still remains, how many different continents and environments will we see at launch? As you've said, we've only seen the desert "Indar" continent so far. There is also the possibility that there will be different biomes in one continent which I think would be cool.
Another exiciting thing about the envirnoments for PS2 is that they are literally handcrafting every square foot of the massive 8km x 8km continents to maximize the gameplay. One of the minor issues I had with PS1 is that much of the map felt randomly generated with only some minor adjustments around some of the bases. So this attention to detail makes me extremely excited to see the various landscapes we will be fighting in.
